New medical concept for Anantara
Minor Hotels has devised a new medi-wellness concept for its Anantara brand and expressed ambitions to roll out the concept.
Minor Hotels is preparing to launch the flagship destination of its new medi-wellness brand – called Layan Life by Anantara – at the existing Anantara Layan Phuket Resort in Q3 this year. Spanning 1,767sq m, the purpose-built facility will blend modern medical technologies with 'Rajasamnak' Thai healing traditions.
In an exclusive interview with Spa Business Minor CEO, Dillip Rajakarier, outlined the group's plan to add the concept to other Anantara resorts.
He said that while all outposts will prioritise medi-wellness, each destination will have a distinct offering inspired by the
healing traditions and customs of their specific regions.
Details of future locations are yet to be disclosed, but Thailand will serve as the testing ground for the concept, with the Phuket flagship setting the standard for new destinations.

The luxury Ritz-Carlton Reserve brand is set to land in South America for the first time with a tropical retreat in Rio de Janeiro
Welcoming Ritz-Carlton Reserve to South America is a milestone for tourism in Brazil
Marriott is set to bolster its exclusive Ritz-Carlton Reserve portfolio with a brand new property in South America in Costa do Sol, Rio de Janeiro.
The eco-luxury resort will open as part of the ambitious Maraey project, an 844-hectare sustainably-minded urban development designed to harmonise with the local ecosystem and champion economic development. By integrating environmental conservation with economic growth, the vision behind the tourist and residential project is to promote a high quality of life while preserving the region's natural beauty.
Marriott reports the upcoming Ritz-Carlton Reserve will feature 58 villas, 80 residences, a luxury spa and wellness facility, pools and culinary venues, in addition to a dedicated leisure and sports area.
Maraey CEO, Emilio Izquierdo, commented: “Welcoming RitzCarlton Reserve to South America is a major milestone for tourism in Brazil, establishing a new paradigm for the market.
“This partnership perfectly balances ultraluxury travel and the rare natural heritage of one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet.”

The property is an important addition as we build out our luxury presence in the region
Growing footprint
Ritz-Carlton Reserves are exclusive resorts tucked away in some of the world's most beautiful locations.
The brand's philosophy focuses on luxury, highly personalised service, human connection and celebrating the destination's natural environment.
The Brazilian reserve will join an exclusive collection of only five RitzCarlton Reserve properties globally, in destinations including Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
In addition to the Maraey destination, Marriott has plans to expand its portfolio with new reserves in Thailand, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia.
“We’re thrilled to bring the exclusivity of Ritz-Carlton Reserve to Brazil, creating a new luxury destination for our discerning guests in South America.
“The property is an important addition as we build out our luxury
presence in the region,” said Laurent de Kousemaeker, Chief Development O cer for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The Maraey development will also be home to a JW Marriott All-Inclusive resort and the first Rock In Rio branded Autograph Collection in the world.
Leading the project to bring the three Marriott hotels and branded residences to life is the Abacus Group, an international architecture and urbanism consultancy firm.
The bigger picture
Owned by IDB Brazil, Maraey is claimed to be on track to become a global beacon for best practice in sustainable tourism, residential development, innovation and technology and hospitality training.
In addition to the tourist and residential projects – with more than 8,000 high-standard new homes,
the complex will feature a hospitality and high-gastronomy university supported by EHL, an international school, a shopping centre, a business cluster, an 18-hole golf course and an international equestrian centre.
The project will also create the secondlargest RPPN (private natural heritage reserve) in Rio's Restinga Forest (the fifth in Brazil) within the development.
Private investment in Maraey is expected to exceed more than US$2.1 billion (€2 billion, £1.7 billion), generate US$1.3 billion (€1.2 billion, £1 billion) in taxes and create more than 56,000 jobs in the first 14 years.
Once fully operational, Maraey is projected to earn an annual profit of more than US$191 million (€178.3 million, £150.7 million) and create approximately 36,000 jobs.
Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2024 ●

Connection, creativity and nature are the inspiration behind Arizona’s exciting upcoming desert wellness sanctuary – Spa Business shares more
Surrounded by mountain ranges, Align will connect guests to nature
Anew nature-inspired wellness destination, called Align, is coming to Tucson, spearheaded by brothers and hospitality entrepreneurs, Mark and Eric Erman.
Designed to foster individual and collective wellbeing, the project is set to create a central gathering space for users of the Chuck Huckleberry Loop, an 87.5-km circular trail used for outdoor leisure pursuits.
Fronted by the Rillito River, Align will have extensive wellness facilities, a landscaped park, F&B outlets, accommodation and flexible retail space centred around health and wellness.
The property's wellness o ering will consist of contrast bathing circuits, spa treatments, a social recovery lounge, relaxation spaces and a range of meditation and mindfulness experiences.

Align represents a rare opportunity for building design to celebrate the magic of the Sonoran Desert
The Erman brothers, owners of Tucson's Ermanos Bar and Portal Cocktails, want Align to facilitate human connection, creative expression, movement and belonging. They say the space will serve as both a public welcome stop for Loop users and also as a retreat space for locals and visitors.
Align’s wellness concept and programming are being developed by local firm, Under a Tree, led by CEO Amy McDonald, who's worked on numerous global projects and also locally on award-winning destination, Miraval Resort & Spa.
McDonald said: “The city has so much to o er – especially when it comes to the beauty of its natural landscape and surroundings and it will be amazing to have a worldclass wellness centre opening right here in the heart of Tucson.”
State of play
Currently in the planning stages, the seven-acre project is a public-private partnership between Pima County and Infinite Concepts – the Erman brothers’ hospitality development company.
Align’s wellness-focused concept was selected through a competitive public request for proposals (RFP) to develop and steward the property, which is surrounded by creeks with sweeping mountain views.
Eric Erman said the primary aspiration for Align is “to infuse the good feelings of slow cooking, fire, drink and music from wild settings into a nourishing social environment.
“Over the years, we’ve evolved as hosts, and we continue to practice the art of wholehearted hospitality, which requires genuine care and listening,” he explained.
To bring their vision to life, the Ermans have assembled a team led by New Yorkbased design firm HelenHanCreative and San Francisco-based landscape design firm Studio O.G. + Landscape.
Tucson-based architecture firm BWS Architects – led by Robin Shambach – is supporting the design e ort, along with a team of local specialists and consultants.
Carefully crafted
Shambach said: “Align represents a rare opportunity for building design to celebrate the magic of the Sonoran Desert, the ephemeral but significant role of water and the majesty of our skies.
“It will provide residents and visitors with a carefully crafted environment to compose their own awe-inspiring experience. We’re proud to be part of the team that aspires to honour our home in this way.” ●

SHAPING THE VISION
Once a spa has partnered with Amra, the team conducts a comprehensive analysis of its aspirations and goals. Amra’s treatment development team then closely collaborates with the operator to refine a clear and detailed business vision.
This plan extends beyond mere objectives, also taking into account the complete journey the spa aims to craft for its clientele, ensuring a turnkey approach to its development and implementation.
Part of this strategy is shaped by a meticulous analysis of neighbouring competitors’ strategies and offerings. In doing so, Amra identifies opportunities to innovate and differentiate, ensuring that its partner spas are always a prominent destination on the map.
GUEST-FIRST APPROACH
URBAN SPA
Amra has recently partnered with the spa at the St Regis Red Sea Resort
Once the benchmarks are established, the focus shifts to the guest experience – the essence of every spa. Amra operates with a Tri Pillar Approach, offering its spa partners three distinct spa proposals: City; Signature; and Resort.
Whether addressing the urbanite’s struggle with pollution or the jet-setter’s quest for rejuvenation, Amra will help spas to create a concept that will guarantee that each treatment aligns seamlessly with its client’s lifestyle and specific skin concerns.
Dubai’s Atlantis The Royal opted for the signature offering
Amra City Spas benefit from the brand’s selection of urban-centric treatments, strategically formulated to combat the effects of pollution with potent bioactive ingredients that detoxify and strengthen the skin. These rituals serve as essential respites for city dwellers, offering a shield against the relentless pace of urban life. Designed to deliver instant results, these treatments offer express solutions targeting the effects of jet-lag and clarifying therapies tailored for the business-minded individual. For instance, the Pearl Urban Barrier Facial on offer at St Regis Riyadh is meticulously crafted to fortify the skin against modern world pollutants. Featuring Amra’s Tahitian Black Pearl complex, this ritual supports elastin fibrils, enhancing luminosity and promoting natural exfoliation. Advanced AFR technology eradicates impurities and repairs free radical damage, while PPF+ strengthens the skin’s barrier, offering unparalleled protection against environmental pollution.
SIGNATURE SPA
Amra’s opulent Signature Spa concept showcases a selection of its most signature rituals, each a testament to the spa’s unique identity. These offerings encompass cutting-edge skincare solutions and advanced active facials, ranging from anti-ageing peptides to cellular renewing technology. Having opted for the Signature Spa proposal, Atlantis The Royal in Dubai indulges its guests with the luxurious 24kt Gold Hot Stone Massage. RESORT SPA
The Resort Spa concept completes Amra’s trio of offerings and features treatments designed to help guests experience a decadent retreat into indulgence. Each one of these restorative olfactory regimens help to rejuvenate both the skin and mind.
The brand’s Resort Spa partners – such as The St Regis Red Sea Resort – are provided with treatments that seamlessly integrate with extended experiences, such as Amra’s Olfactory Yoga or Meditation, or participation in lifestyle events focused on skincare and wellness.
PIONEERING SKINCARE TECHNOLOGY
All three of Amra’s offerings are super-charged by the brand’s high-performance Micro-Cellular Actives – a range of innovative molecular agents formulated to redefine Amra’s clinically-driven skincare applications for unparalleled results.
Each active has been formulated to counteract particular skincare concerns, ranging from the effects of environmental pollution, low cell turnover and dehydration, to the impact of blue light and UV, men’s skin health and more.
Emblematic of the brand’s relentless pursuit of skincare excellence and dedication to science, these efficacious ingredients form the cornerstone of a results-oriented strategy that resonates with each guest’s distinct lifestyle and skincare requirements.
Amra has enriched its nine skincare ranges with a unique formula of the bespoke actives, which provide both immediate enhancements as well as enduring rejuvenation.
The premium Rarity Collection represents the pinnacle of its offering, fuelled by the brand’s sophisticated StemCell8 complex featuring extract from the stem and flower of an orchid, this range helps shield the skin from oxidative harm and urban pollutants while optimising intracellular repair.

FINDING THE PERFECT SOLUTION
Amra’s ethos is elegantly simple yet profoundly impactful: every individual’s skin tells a unique story.
As such, its treatment journey always begins with a thorough consultation, where experts explore the often overlooked facets of their guests’ lives. Are they contending with sleep disturbances? Is their skin exposed to urban pollutants? Are there indications of hormonal imbalances? Each query is a thread woven into a tapestry that informs the customised skincare regimen at Amra.
Through a bespoke methodology and unwavering dedication to individuality, Amra is driving the future of spa, where every individual is guided towards their optimal self ● For more information about AMRA Skincare contact info@amraskincare.com and/or go to www.amraskincare.com
