English actor, comedian and screenwriter Rowan Atkinson was born on January 6, 1955. In 1979, Atkinson wrote for and starred in the BBC's Not the Nine O'clock News. His later landed a role on the television series Blackadder and subsequent spin-off TV specials. In 1990, he starred as his originally developed character Mr. Bean on the televison series of the same name. Mr. Bean was adapted for film in 1997, and received wide success. Atkinson studied at Newcastle University and Oxford University, and earned a master's degree in electrical engineering. He got his start performing sketches while studying at Oxford, first appearing in Oxford revues at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Soon, he was entertaining at several theater clubs and on comedy shows for BBC Radio 3. In 1979, Atkinson wrote for and starred in the BBC's Not the Nine O'clock News. In 1981, Atkinson became the youngest performer to have had a one-man show in the West End. Atkinson later appeared in theatrical productions like The Nerd (1984), The New Revue (1986) and The Sneeze (1988). He then landed parts on such television shows as Not the Nine O'Clock News (1979-82), Blackadder (1983-89) The Thin Blue Line (1995-96) and Mr. Bean (1990-95). The success of Blackadder spurred the creation of the TV specials Blackadder's Christmas Carol and Blackadder: The Cavalier Years—both of which aired in 1988. The first episode of the original Mr Bean series starring Rowan Atkinson was first broadcast on 1st January 1990. Since then Mr Bean has become known all over the world. Created by Rowan Atkinson, Richard Curtis and Robin Driscoll, there were only 14 episodes ever made. The original series emerged from Rowan Atkinson’s stage revues of the 1980’s which featured the silent odd-ball. Rowan Atkinson’s comic acting genius has created a highly original work for television. The Mr Bean series has been sold to 190 territories worldwide and has won an International Emmy and the Golden Rose of Montreux. In 2002 the character was transformed into an animated series of 26 half hour episodes. The series remains entirely faithful to the original Mr Bean, with the character still living very much in the real world. Rowan Atkinson provides all of Mr Bean’s vocal sounds. The Animated Series has heralded a new era for one of the UK’s most successful characters of all time. Rowan Atkinson worked on the transformation to animated character and acted out every episode in front of the cameras so that the animators could capture the unique movement of Britain’s most infamous character.
Writer unknown Two guys were drinking in a bar. As they were drinking, they started arguing, one guy pounced on his friend and started beating him. After a long beating he realised that his friend was no longer breathing, he already died instantly. Then the guy started running with his shirt full of blood. Those who were watching the fight started chasing him. He ran to the house of a Christian man, knocked and said, "Can u please hide me, i have killed a person and people are chasing me." The Christian man replied , "Where am i going to hide you in my one room apartment?" The murderer said "There is no time to waste here, just think of anywhere you can hide me." After a long thinking, the Christian man said to the murderer, "Give me your shirt and take my shirt but remember to keep my shirt clean" They exchanged their shirts. Then as soon as the Christian man opened the door, people started beating him and was badly injured that he was taken to the police station. From police station, the case was taken to court and the man was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to death. The real murderer was safe at home but was feeling so guilty that he ran to the Court and said, "Can you please release that innocent man, am the real murderer". The judge replied "unfortunately it's too late, the man is already hanged " He ran to the police grounds where the man was hanged and for sure he found him dead hanging. He knelt down and cried his eyes out and said to himself, " You paid for my crime". He remembered the Christian's last words: "KEEP MY SHIRT CLEAN !!!" That's how the murderer repented and became a Christian!
Thanks to these pro tips, poached eggs are no longer as intimidating as you thought.
Amazing Microwave Popcorn
BY MARISSA LALIBERTE
Makes 1 serving INGREDIENTS: 1/4 cup popcorn kernels 1/4 teaspoon oil Pinch of salt Yellow and white popcorn are a bit different in appearance but not in nutrition profiles. Yellow kernels are larger and take longer to cook. They also have a tougher hull and chewier. White is smaller, lighter, and crispier than yellow.
Poached eggs are the holy grail of breakfast. They are way more impressive than the typical fried egg and elevate plain avocado toast to something Insta-worthy. Making a poached egg sounds easy enough: just plop an egg into hot water and let the water do the work. The problem is, poached eggs can be frustratingly finicky. If you aren’t careful, you could end up with a soupy mess instead of the pretty egg you had in mind. Follow these tricks, straight from a chef, for the perfect poached eggs every time: WAIT TO BUY YOUR EGGS Hard-boiled eggs are best when a bit older because they’re easier to peel, but the opposite is true with poached eggs. Eggs from the back of the fridge might start falling apart in the pot, says Melissa Joulwan, author of cookbook Well Fed Weeknights: Complete Paleo Meals in 45 Minutes or Less. Poached eggs are better the fresher they are, so buy a fresh dozen today for tomorrow’s brunch, she says. DON’T’S OVERFILL THE POT Instead of filling your pot with water, stick with just two or three inches of water, says Joulwan. “You don’t want the eggs to have a ton of room to move around and bounce to the bottom of the pot,” she says. “The whites will drift away from the yolk, and you’ll end up with what looks like egg drop soup.” GET THE WATER JUST RIGHT Before you start heating the water, add a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar for more acidity. “That helps the eggs come together quickly and prevents them from getting wispy,” says Joulwan. Bring the water to a boil, then take the temperature back down to a simmer before dropping in the eggs from a teacup or ladel. A rolling boil could break your eggs apart, but a simmer will still be hot enough to cook them. DON’T PLOP IT RIGHT ON THE PLATE Timing is everything with poached eggs, so pay close attention to the timer before you even think about taking them out of the water. A runny yolk needs four minutes in the pot—just 30 seconds more and the yolk will be a bit thicker. Keep it in for five minutes if you prefer a gelled, custardy yolk, says Joulwan. Once it’s ready, use a slotted spoon to remove the water. Before plating it, set the cooked egg on a paper towel. “Gently pat to get the excess water off it so when you put it on the toast or English muffin, it’s not all waterlogged,” says Joulwan. COOK FOR A CROWD Never try poaching more than two or three eggs in the same pot, says Joulwan. Not only will they bump into each other, but having more eggs in will bring the water temperature down and affect the delicate cooking time, says Joulwan. If you’re cooking for a crowd—or just want a more relaxing, reliable cooking method—use the oven instead, she says. Put a tablespoon of water in each cup of a muffin tray, then gently crack an egg in each section. Preheat your oven to 350°F, then slide the tray in. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes to keep the insides runny, or 14 to 15 minutes for firmer yolks. “It’s really easy, super reliable, and more relaxing on a weekend morning,” says Joulwan.
DIRECTIONS: Toss the popcorn kernels in a small bowl with the oil and a pinch of salt. Pour the contents into a brown paper lunch bag. Fold the bag over a couple of times and then fold the corners in so that the bag doesn’t open during cooking. Place the bag upright in the microwave and set the “cook” button for about 2 minutes. Turn off the microwave when the popping slows down to about two kernels between pops – otherwise, you risk scorching it. Take the bag out of the microwave and open it carefully, watching out for hot steam. Pour the popcorn into a bowl and toss with seasonings of your choice. The heat will maximize the absorption of the seasoning’s flavor. Personalize Your Popcorn. The beauty of this recipe is it’s so versatile. The basic recipe is tasty on its own but you can add any flavor combo that suits your taste buds. What’s also fun about this recipe is that it makes an individual portion so everyone can make their own bag, the way they like it! Set out melted butter, olive oil or toasted sesame oil, spices, cheeses and dried fruit and have everyone sprinkle on their own combos.
A new study shows that your moniker can actually influence your mug. And you thought it was just a coincidence! BY ELIZABETH MANNEH Take a good look at this photo. His name could be Jacob, Dan, Josef, or Nathaniel—which do you think is right? You might think your chance of guessing correctly is only one in four, but a new study shows that you may know more than you think. We learn new names all the time, but sometimes we have real trouble remembering the name of someone specific, or we constantly call them by another name. “It’s common to hear that someone’s name really suits them or that it doesn’t suit them,” says graduate student Yonat Zwebnerg of Hebrew University of Jerusalem. “It made us think. Could it be that most people do look like their names?” So together with colleagues from HEC Paris and the Interdisciplinary Center and Columbia University, Yonat began a whole series of studies to see whether it’s possible to predict someone’s name simply by looking at clues in their face. They assembled thousands of head shots, then suggested four possible names for each one, including the person’s real name, and asked volunteers to guess which one was correct. The results, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, were astonishing. Instead of the statistical likelihood of correct guesses (25 percent), the percentage of correct guesses was significantly higher at around 30 percent or more. (That may not sound like a lot, but in research terms, it’s a huge jump.) “What we found is that people repeatedly identified the true name of the person in the picture significantly above chance level,” Zwebner says. The scientists were careful to eliminate any other clues that might influence the guesswork, such as clothing, but the results remained the same. It seems that humans are able to recognize certain characteristics of a face, which help them identify their name. Over time, we seem able to “learn” facial characteristics that match individual names, a kind of face-name matching. However, this only works when we’re looking at names within our own culture, and doesn’t include middle names. If humans can learn this skill, then perhaps computers could learn it too? The team took their research further. Using only two names, they showed multiple images to the computer, which then mapped the facial characteristics of each name. Yonat explains what happened: ‘We gave the computer a new set of faces of A and B, and asked the computer to decide who is A and who is B. Surprisingly, we found that the computer also identified correctly at significantly above chance level,” she reports. “It tells us that it’s nothing about the name, or some human bias. It’s something in the face that looks like that name.” The team is planning to explore the implications of their findings, such as whether our expectations about a name can influence whether or not we trust someone (these are the subtle habits that make people trust you). But meanwhile, if you find yourself wondering about the name of the commuter sitting opposite you, you could be more accurate than you think. Oh, and the name in the photo? It’s Dan. Were you right?
BIRDHOUSE CRAFTS FOR KIDS INGREDIENTS Mo empathy, mo problems. BY BRANDON SPECKTOR To perceive is to suffer.” —Aristotle “Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do criticize him, you’ll be a mile away and have his shoes.” —Steve Martin If you imagine that hyper-empathetic Aristotle has a more stressful inner life than shoestealing Steve Martin, you’re probably right. And that’s because you, like Aristotle here, have a functioning emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a person’s ability to accurately perceive, understand, and regulate emotions in oneself and others — sort of like a mood-leveling cocktail of empathy and self-awareness. Having a well-developed EI can be a huge asset in today’s increasingly team-oriented workplace, as well as day-to-day social interactions. A strong EI can help make your arguments with loved ones less painful, connect with strangers in a meaningful way, and even influence people with the charisma of a conman. But for all of this, a new study suggests, there are drawbacks. For starters, it can make you way more stressed. To test the link between EI, stress, and testosterone, researchers from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management had 166 male students take a standard EI test that involves identifying emotions on pictured faces and predicting emotional reactions to various scenarios. Following a 20-minute relaxation break, the stress test began. Students were given five minutes to prepare a five-minute speech about their personal strengths and weaknesses as a job candidate, then asked to deliver it live to one male and one female judge. Five minutes into their speeches, the students were cut off and asked to solve math problems aloud for another five minutes. For those of you who just felt a jolt of anxiety, there is a reason this test has become a scientific standard for measuring stress — even reading about it is painful. After comparing saliva samples taken before and after the stress test, researchers found this pattern: the students who showed higher emotional intelligence became more stressed during their presentations, and remained stressed for a longer period of time after it was over. Being too empathetic, in other words, can be disabling. This could help explain why the sensation of “feeling embarrassed for someone” — say, everyone onstage during the final moments of the 2017 Academy Awards — can leave you unsettled for the rest of the night. Naturally, further testing needs to be done to incorporate women and more diverse age groups into our understanding of EI and stress. Until then, simply being self-aware of when your empathy may be kicking into overdrive is an effective way to calm it down. So the next time you feel a secondhand cringe coming on, just breathe deeply, take a step back, and ask yourself, “What would Steve Martin do?”

HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN YOUR “HAND WASH” DELICATES By Mariental Laundry Services A sure method to clean your “hand wash” delicates is to use laundry bags. I have not only washed decades worth of delicates this way, I use this method for many garments that say “gentle or hand wash only” and even some that say “dry clean only”. I put delicates into washing bags, or garment bags. Making sure all ends are closed shut. I wash using cold water, on a gentle cycle with a gentle detergent. Remember to use the gentlest agitation cycle for your most delicate items like silks for example. Wool garments in cold water which is inside a garment bag can tolerate a stronger agitation cycle, but keep the cycle short . I recommend using the gentlest cycle, you may do the same gentle cycle twice rather than more vigorous. THESE 5 COOKING SECRETS ARE ALL SIMPLE AND EASY, BUT EVERYONE WILL BE ASKING, “WOW DID YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THAT? IT WASN’T IN THE RECIPE That’s when you know you’ve become a real cook and not just a recipe follower. As always, the more you put these secrets to practice, it’ll become second nature to you, and you won’t ever have to settle for blaming the recipe again.
Once done and delicates are taken out of the washing I air dry them all after I stretch and re shape garments to its original form and shape. Gently “ironing” it out with my hands on a flat surface.
NUMBER 2 OF 5: HEAT Heat is a critical part of cooking, and for the best results, make sure that the oil is hot when you add ingredients to saute, stir-fry, or fry. If you don’t, the food would just be sitting in oil rather than getting cooked in oil. When you add the oil to the pan, tip the pan back & forth. You can tell the oil is hot when you see striations in it (like legs in a wine glass) and it shimmers. It is best to use oils with high smoke points, like avocado, coconut, or grapeseed, for high-heat cooking.
This way works great. I have washed wool suits, wool pants and many other delicates this way, with beautiful success every time.
They were already onboard when they got the news of their grandson's lifethreatening illness. BY MARISSA LALIBERTE As an elderly couple was about to shut their phones off onboard a flight to Australia via Abu Dhabi, they noticed a missed call from their son-in-law. The plane was already starting to roll forward on the runway when they saw the text: Their grandson was in intensive care with a serious illness. If they didn’t get back soon, they might miss their chance to say goodbye.

The couple got the attention of the Etihad Airways crew, who rushed to tell the pilot. Instead of shrugging off their pleas to stay on schedule, the kindhearted pilot turned the plane back around to the Manchester Airport gate. From there, the rest of the staff jumped in to get them home as fast as possible. Some collected their bags and helped the couple through the airport, while others brought their car to arrivals so the grandparents could head straight home. The airline said they could use their tickets another time. “I’ve been in the travel business for 25 years and never heard of this happening,” the couple’s travel agent, Becky Stephenson, told the BBC. The boy passed away the next day, when his grandparents would have been in Australia, but they reached his bedside in time to say goodbye. “They never in a million years expected the crew to go so far for them,” Stephenson told The Independent. “You shudder to think what would have happened if they hadn’t been able to get off the plane.”

BAKLEI GAT: As if our coastline is not long enough anglers tend to crowd a spot where there are plenty of fish, which invariably lead to entangled lines and anglers losing their fish and tempers. Needless to say that this is the perfect arena for a good fight. Bakleigat was named when a group of “Valies, obviously a bit overeager and greedy, knocked each other about with gaffs and fists over entangled lines.
