Most wedding cakes barely survive the big day, with maybe just one slice being popped in a box to be preserved for posterity. This one, however, is still intact after 113 years, making it what is thought to be the world’s oldest complete wedding cake The ornately decorated confection was made in 1898, during Queen Victoria’s reign, and is still in one piece despite a large crack in the icing caused by a Second World War bomb blast. Once white, it has browned with age. But despite this, the rich fruit cake inside is said to be still moist. Once white as a symbol of purity, the ornate cake, complete with its floral display, has browned with age. The confectionery was originally on display in the window of a family bakery, in Basingstoke, Hampshire, which closed in 1964. It had been moved to a loft, where it remained for almost a century, until the baker's daughter donated it to the little known Willis Museum in Basingstoke. Museum curator Sue Tapliss said: 'It has been stored in unfavourable environmental conditions, leading to the cake heating and causing the sugars to seep through to the icing, giving it a darker colour. 'The baker's daughter, who was unmarried, donated the cake towards the end of her life due to fears someone might discover it in her attic and think she had been jilted at the altar. A delicate operation involving two conservators has been carried out and the cake has now been dried using packets of silica gel to prevent further deterioration. Mrs Tapliss added: 'It underwent conservation work following concerns from museum staff who had noticed a distinct colour change. Upon investigation using a syringe, the cake was found to be very moist. 'A large crack in the icing, the result of wartime bombing vibration, was in a precarious state due to the weight of the icing pulling away from the cake itself. 'Pieces of Queen Victoria's wedding cake were auctioned off but this is the world's oldest complete wedding cake.' Mrs Tapliss added: 'We hope that the cake can be enjoyed for a further 113 years.'
You might think arthritis only affects the elderly – but Jasmin Naylor, 24, was diagnosed at just 16. I was 16, working at my local supermarket in Newcastle, when my shoulder began to ache. Over the next few hours it got so bad that when I got home Mum had to help me shower, lifting up my arms so I could shave. My doctor thought I had a frozen shoulder, but he also noticed my hands were cold and my knuckles were swollen, so he performed a blood test to check for arthritis. When the results came back positive, I didn't think it was a big deal. I was surprised, as I thought arthritis was only for old people (actually it can affect anyone, at any age), but I was sure there was something the doctors could do about it. My great nan had had arthritis, which causes tissue around joints to become inflamed, but since it only gave her a couple of gnarled fingers I didn't think it would affect me much. I honestly thought it was fully treatable – I certainly didn't realise how bad things were going to get. Not long after my diagnosis, I was at a friend's house having pizza and watching a film when my hip started to feel really tender. By the time we were getting ready for bed, I could hardly move my leg. At around three in the morning the deep, aching pain had become constant and my muscles kept seizing up. I could hardly walk, so my friend called Mum, who rushed me to A&E. Tests showed the kind of arthritis I have is rheumatoid, which means my joints often swell up and become stiff.

The fastest time to crush 3 watermelons between the thighs is 14.65 seconds and was achieved by Olga Liashchuk (Ukraine) at the Mediaset Studios in Milan, Italy, on 26 June 2014. Olga's greatest ambition is to become the world’s strongest woman. Asked what drew her to this record, she said, “I thought it may be easier than other strength records… but it turned out to be very hard indeed!”
I was a teenager who wanted to be able to go out and drink with my friends at weekends, but when they asked I'd have to say no. Arthritis made everyday tasks difficult, and I was just too tired. Instead of enjoying myself, I was busy trying out different forms of medication, and on a bad day I struggled to do the smallest things, such as brushing my teeth. In 2010 I met my boyfriend Nathan through a mutual friend. He knew from the start I had arthritis, but reacted the same way I did when I got the news: the thought it was an illness for the elderly. Even now, it sometimes puts a strain on our relationship, because until you've experienced it, it's hard to understand how tiring it can be. But Nathan is my rock. He does so much for me. In the years since then, the pain has gradually got worse. Even when I take the strongest painkiller possible it doesn't have any effect, and if I forget to take anti-inflammatory tablets every night, I can hardly move the next day. As I'm only 24, the potential long-term effects of taking so much strong medication are terrifying. I have monthly blood tests to monitor the effects, as it could cause lung problems, liver problems or make me vulnerable to infection. I've now got a job as a sales assistant, and my colleagues are totally understanding – my bosses allow me plenty of time off for my hospital appointments and blood tests. All the same, no-one can really understand what I'm going through I can't do things other people take for granted – I have to turn bodily to look at something behind me, and if I sleep on my back with my head to one side, I won't be able to move it the next morning, except with my hands. . I try not to let it get to me, and try to do the same things as other women my age. My advice to anyone who is diagnosed with arthritis is not to hide away. Talk about it, and explain to people what it's like. Don't feel bad about needing help for simple things: most of the time it's hard to ask, but people are more understanding than you realise. I want to tell people that arthritis can affect women of all ages, and help them understand the impact it has on the sufferer and their families. I never expected this to happen to me – but now I've learnt the hard way that it can happen to anyone.

It has increasingly become accepted that emotional intelligence is an important factor in our success and happiness, not only at work, but in our relationships and all areas of our lives. So what sets emotionally intelligent people apart? Here are seven habits that people with high EI have: 1. THEY FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE While not ignoring the bad news, emotionally intelligent people have made a conscious decision to not spend a lot of time and energy focusing on problems. Rather, they look at what is positive in a situation and look for solutions to a problem. These people focus on what they are able to do and that which is within their control. 2. THEY SURROUND THEMSELVES WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE People with a lot of emotional intelligence don’t spend a lot of time listening to complainers and tend to avoid negative people. They are aware negative people are an energy drain and are not willing to let others exhaust their vitality. Because they always look for solutions and the positive in situations, negative people quickly learn to avoid positive people as misery loves company. Emotionally intelligent people spend time with others that are positive and look upon the bright side of life. You can spot these folks as they tend to smile and laugh a great deal and attract other positive people. Their warmth, openness, and caring attitude leads others look upon them as more trustworthy. 3. THEY ARE ABLE TO SET BOUNDARIES AND BE ASSERTIVE WHEN NECESSARY Although their friendly, open nature may make them appear as pushovers to some, people with high EI are able to set boundaries and assert themselves when needed. They demonstrate politeness and consideration but stay firm at the same time. They do not make needless enemies. Their response to situations, in which there may be conflict, is measured, not inflated, and managed appropriately to the situation. They think before speaking and give themselves time to calm down if their emotions appear to become overwhelming. High EI people guard their time and commitments and know when they need to say no. 4. THEY ARE FORWARD THINKING AND WILLING TO LET GO OF THE PAST People with high EI are too busy thinking of possibilities in the future to spend a lot of time dwelling upon things that didn’t work out in the past. They take the learning from their past failures and apply it to their actions in the future. They never see failure as permanent or a personal reflection of themselves. 5. THEY LOOK FOR WAYS TO MAKE LIFE MORE FUN, HAPPY, AND INTERESTING Whether it is in their workplace, at home, or with friends, high EI people know what makes them happy and look for opportunities to expand the enjoyment. They receive pleasure and satisfaction from seeing others happy and fulfilled, and do whatever they can to brighten someone else’s day. 6. THEY CHOOSE HOW THEY EXPEND THEIR ENERGY WISELY While these enlightened people are good at moving on from the past when things didn’t work out as expected, they are also able to move on from conflicts involved with others. High EI folks don’t hold on to anger over how others have treated them, rather use the incident to create awareness of how to not let it happen again. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me," is their motto. While they move on and forgive, they don’t forget and are unlikely to be taken advantage of again in the same set of circumstances. 7. CONTINUALLY LEARNING AND GROWING TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE Highly emotionally intelligent people are lifelong learners, constantly growing, evolving, open to new ideas, and always willing to learn from others. Being critical thinkers, they are open to changing their minds if someone presents an idea that is a better fit. While they are open to ideas from others, and continuously gathering new information, they ultimately trust themselves and their own judgment to make the best decision for themselves.
PENCIL-MAKING DEVICE source: Bonderud U.S. businesses use about 21 million tons (19 million metric tons) of paper every year -175 pounds of paper for each American, according to the Clean Air Council. This has led to office recycling programs, "please think before you print" e-mail signatures and printers that offer double-sided printing. Now a trio of Chinese inventorshopes to add another device to the cubicle environment: the P&P Office Waste Paper Processor, which turns paper destined for recycling into pencils. The machine, looking a bit like a three-hole punch crossed with an electric pencil sharpener, was a finalist in the 2010 Lite-On Awards, an international competition that seeks to stimulate and nurture innovation. Here's how the pencil-making gadget works: You insert wastepaper into a feed slot. The machine draws the paper in, rolls and compresses it, and then inserts a piece of lead from a storage chamber located in the top of the device. A small amount of glue is added before -- voilĂ -- a pencil slides out from a hole on the side. It's not clear how many pieces of paper form a single pencil, but you figure the average office worker could generate a decent supply of pencils in a month.

And that seems to be the biggest drawback to the pencil-producing gadget. How many No. 2 pencils can an office really use, given that most workers take notes on their tablet PCs or laptops? And how much glue and lead core do you need to buy to keep up with the overflowing paper recycle bin? Too much, we would suspect, which is why you may never see this gadget in your office supplies catalog. [

The Spitzkoppe, is a group of bald granite peaks or inselbergs located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib desert of Namibia. The granite is more than 120 million years old and the highest outcrop rises about 1,784 metres above sea level.
With a total area of approximately 824.000 square km, Namibia is more than tripple the size of Great Britain. The north-to-south length of the country is 1500 km, while the east-to-west width is around 600 kilometres in the south and 1100 kilometres in the north. The population density is very low (2 million people), amounting to 2,4 inhabitants per sqkm. The main reason for this being the harsh desert and semi-desert conditions and the resultant scarcity of surface water. With the exception of the border rivers - Orange in the south and Kunene, Okavango and Zambesi in the north - there are only dry rivers in Namibia. only flow periodically during the rainy season, sometimes just for a few days or even hours.

Wat veroorsaak getye in die see? Die getye is ‘n geveg tussen die aarde en die maan. Al die water wil na die maan vloei, want daar is nie water op die maan nie. WISKUNDE IN DIE WOESTYN Hierdie is baie waar! Daar was net 'n paar putte in die woestyn. Nee, hy was net 'n gewone man met 'n onwrikbare geloof in God.
