The story goes that William Lee, an English minister, grew tired of hearing the incessant clicking of his wife’s knitting needles. Alternate versions of the story say that Lee was trying to win the affections of a lady who was more interested in her knitting than she was in him. In 1589, he modified the looms that were used to create rugs with hooks that would form loops that would be released during each pass of the thread, thereby knitting a whole row at once. Lee left his church work and went to secure the blessing of the queen (Elizabeth I) to ensure that no one else could create such a device and allowing him to make a healthy profit. Elizabeth denied his request and Lee went to France to try the same thing. Henri IV granted Lee the rights that he asked for, but was soon assassinated leaving Lee to die poor in 1610. Lee’s brother, James, took the idea back to England and was assisted by a man named Ashton in Nottingham in creating the first knitting factory. It wasn’t long before it was so cheap to create machine knitted clothing that many local hand-knitters were petitioning the government for limits of the business. Lee’s design remained virtually unchanged until the 1700s when it was modified to include the kitting frame and later to accept other materials like lace and silk or create ribbed materials that could stretch.
Ann Bosche didn't want to give her stray cat over to the animal shelter. Turns out, Mr. Fancy didn't want to leave either. BY ASHLEY LEWIS On a chilly March evening in 2014 in Lucedale, Mississippi, Ann Bosche, then 53, stood on her front steps while her mini dachshund, Gracie, took a bathroom break. Gracie sniffed an unwelcome visitor under the camellia bush and barked. Ann bent and saw a pair of green eyes. “Hello, there,” Ann said, and heard a meow in reply. Ann, who had two resident cats, Bosco and Junior, went inside. She returned with a bowl of cat food and slid it beneath the bush. The next night, the cat returned. Ann fed him again, moving the bowl closer to the house. After a week, the mystery cat showed himself. He was long-haired, with a plume of tail punctuated by a white tip. Ann called him Mr. Fancy, or Fancy for short. Soon, Mr. Fancy was strutting in and out of the cat door. However, Ann’s husband, Gene, argued that Fancy should find a new home. “We don’t need another mouth to feed, and vet bills are expensive,” he said. Reluctantly, Ann agreed. The drive to the shelter was heartbreaking. Ann cried. Fancy cried. She consoled herself by thinking, “He’s so beautiful and lovable. Somebody will want him.” A month later, Ann woke to the sound of Gene’s voice. She went to see which animal he was talking to—and saw a whitetipped tail. A thinner Fancy ran across the room to her. When she asked the shelter what had happened, she learned that Fancy had escaped 20 minutes after she had left, when a worker opened the cage to feed him. Somehow, over the next month, he’d navigated the three miles—traversing railroad tracks, busy streets, and sketchy neighborhoods—back to the Bosches. “This cat is meant to be here,” Ann says. Even Gene agrees. “Whatever time I have with Fancy,” Ann says, “they’re going to be the best years of his life.”

Motherhood is an impressive feat under any circumstances. But for some mothers, it's almost miraculous. From the world's youngest mom to the world's oldest, and the most pregnancies to the most babies born in a single pregnancy, here are some of the world's most extreme moms. MOST BIRTHS FROM ONE PREGNANCY Nadya Suleman, better known as "Octomom," became world famous when she gave birth to eight babies in January 2009. When she was 33, the single American mother gave birth to the only known set of octuplets to live past their first week, USA Today reported previously. Suleman, who already had six children before giving birth to the octuplets, conceived all of her children (including the first six) through in vitro fertilization, sparking a debate about the technology. The Medical Board of California later revoked the license of the doctor who performed the procedure. MOST PROLIFIC MOM The most children born to any woman in recorded history is 69, according to Guinness World Records. The mother was a peasant from Shuya, Russia, identified only as the wife of Feodor Vassilyev. Mrs. Vassilyev lived during the 18th century, and had 27 pregnancies, including 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets, according to "The Guinness Book of World Records 1998" OLDEST MOTHER The oldest woman to give birth was an Indian woman named Omkari Panwar, who gave birth to twins at age 72, in June 2008. She conceived the twins — a boy and a girl — by in vitro fertilization, and gave birth via C-section, according to ABC News. Panwar already had two children and five grandchildren with her 75-year-old husband. SMALLEST MOM Stacey Herald, who stands just 71 centimeters tall, has given birth to three babies, despite doctors' warnings that the pregnancies could be life-threatening. Herald, a native of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, or brittle bone disease,a genetic disorder that results in weak bones that break easily. Doctors advised Herald against having children, because her pelvis is so small that a growing fetus could have crushed her internal organs, ABC News reported previously. Her oldest and youngest children also have the bone disorder, but her middle child is average height.

TWYFELFONTEIN Twyfelfontein (uncertain spring), officially known as Ç€Ui-Ç Ais (Damara/Nama: jumping waterhole), is a site of ancient rock engravings in the Kunene Region of north-western Namibia. It consists of a spring in a valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone table mountain that receives very little rainfall and has a wide range of diurnal temperatures. The site has been inhabited for 6,000 years, first by huntergatherers and later by Khoikhoi herders. Both ethnic groups used it as a place of worship and a site to conduct shamanist rituals. In the process of these rituals at least 2,500 items of rock carvings have been created, as well as a few rock paintings. Displaying one of the largest concent r a t i o n s o f rock petroglyphs in Africa, UNESCO approved Twyfelfontein as Namibia's first World Heritage Site in 2007
In Namibia you can enjoy seeing plenty of wild animals, whether you are visiting places in the desert, close to the Atlantic Ocean or in the bushveld. The Namibian National Parks and Game Reserves are especially good for viewing some the wildlife in Africa.
On this photo you can see lots of animals that came to drink at the waterhole at sunset. This image was captured at the Omaruru Game Lodge in the centre of Namibia.
Clever new device is saving people hundreds (even thousands) and the big computer companies aren't happy about it! Is your computer painfully slow? Have you considered buying a new 'faster' computer but the price of even a basic one makes you cringe? Do you wish there was a cheaper, more affordable way to get a new computer? Plug it in – Simply plug Xtra-PC into a USB port while your computer is turned off. Turn Your Computer On – Select 'Boot from USB' and bingo, you're good to go. Enjoy New PC – In less than 15 minutes you'll be shocked at the difference in the performance of your computer. You only have to setup Xtra-PC once and you can even use it on multiple computers! WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY LIKE-NEW COMPUTER? Everything! With Xtra-PC, there's simply no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a new computer – only to have it peter out on you in another year or two. It makes no sense. But getting Xtra-PC does (which is why the big computer companies are so against this incredibly powerful little device). With Xtra-PC you'll be able to do the things you normally do... Surf the web Share on social media Write emails Watch videos Play games Safely shop online And more! You can even add other programs to your computer if you wanted to. Want to download Skype? No problem, with Xtra-PC, you can.
