No, we’re not talking about Paul being dead. That one is still up for debate. But, according to a report from NPR, a mathematician recently settled the longdisputed question of who actually wrote the 1965 hit “In My Life.” While the majority of Beatles songs are credited to Lennon-McCartney, the general rule of thumb has always been, “Whoever is singing is probably the one who wrote it.” So, most casual fans assumed John Lennon penned the music and lyrics. However, in a 1980 Playboy interview Lennon himself begrudgingly credited McCartney with writing the song’s “middle eight” only to have McCartney later claim that he wrote the entire tune himself with Lennon simply providing lyrics. Finally, math is here to tell us what’s what. After a decade of statistical analysis, mathematics professor Jason Brown has devised a way to determine which of the Fab Four is most likely responsible for each song’s musical makeup. To do this, Brown used a statistical tool known colloquially as “bags of words.” Essentially, this is the process of cataloging the occurrence of every word in a sample of text and then counting how frequently these individual words are repeated. If you’ve ever seen one of those “word clouds” on Twitter, that’s what we’re talking about. Brown took this same concept and applied it to the musical phrases and transitions between chords that appear in every Beatles song. “When you do the math by counting the little bits that are unique to the people, the probability that McCartney wrote [“In My Life”] was .018,” mathematician Keith Devlin tells NPR. So, despite their hazy recollections of those mid-’60s recording sessions, the math points to John Lennon being the song’s sole author. Sure, there was undoubtedly a certain amount of intermingling of ideas throughout the Lennon-McCartney partnership, but each band member still had a catalog of musical tricks and techniques they would routinely fall back on. “In My Life” simply doesn’t have enough of McCartney’s sound to be McCartney’s. Now, if you play it backwards, on the other hand… 2

After I had our second child, I was anxious to get home from the hospital to show my five-yearold daughter her new sister. When I got out of our car, I asked my daughter what she thought of her new sister. She looked a little disgusted and replied, “I told you that I wanted a puppy!” — Pam Vogel 5

Travel News Namibia Do you have family of friends travelling to Namibia with their children? Then please take note of the following. You have spent months planning the perfect holiday in Namibia with your family. Your bags are packed and passports are ready. Finally you are on your way to explore Namibia’s vast landscapes, diverse wildlife, and enigmatic cultures. To make your trip with your young ones as hassle-free as possible, please take note of the following travel regulations. This will ensure avoiding any unpleasant surprises. These regulations apply to the entire SADC region and affirm the Child Protection Act and international law resolution through the United Nations Protocol regarding child safety against human trafficking. Due to an alarming rise in child and human trafficking, the authorities deem it necessary to reinforce these regulations. Children younger than 18 years who are travelling to Namibia must have unabridged birth certificates. This applies to the following cases: • When children travel with an adult who is not their biological parent. Necessary documentation includes an affidavit from the children’s parents giving the minor consent to travel with the said adult. • When children travel with an adult other than a parent/legal guardian. Said adult will need copies of the children’s legal guardians/parents’ passports or identity documents, as well as their contact numbers. • When children travel with only one parent. The parent will need to provide an affidavit from the other parent giving the minor consent to travel. A death certificate should be provided if one parent is deceased. • When children travel unaccompanied, they will need to provide an affidavit from their parents/legal guardians consenting their travel, as well as a letter containing the contact details and residential information, a copy of the identity document, valid passport or permanent residence address of the person who will receive the minor passenger. • Minors’ unabridged birth certificate must always be provided at check-in, also when only in transit in Johannesburg. • Make sure all your documents are in place for the holiday of a lifetime! 7

When it comes to freestyle ball sports, Andrew Henderson is a master with records in football and rugby, but there was a time when such feats seemed a million miles away. As part of Guinness World Records' European tour, we interviewed the 25-year-old in London where he recalled being told he "might not walk again" after a serious leg break playing rugby. But since then Andrew has bounced back, holding the record for the Fastest time to complete 10 Maradona seven football tricks from June 2016 until December 2016. With five Football Freestyle World Championships and eight Football Freestyle UK Championships under his belt (and is currently the reigning champion in both tournaments), Andrew is officially the most successful professional football freestyler ever. His talent has also landed him roles in adverts, performances at numerous events, and a YouTube channel with more than 100,000 subscribers. Originally from Cornwall, Andrew had a voracious appetite for all things sport related, specifically rugby. However, a serious accident in 2008 left his sporting future in jeopardy. "I had a really bad experience; I broke my leg playing rugby and was told that maybe I'll never be able to walk again. That was a really difficult time for me." Andrew had began practicing football freestyle on-and-off since 2006, and following his accident he began dedicating all his sporting effort into it. "Freestyle definitely helped me recover from my injury. Every time I learnt a new skill it made me more confident and think, actually, I can get up, I can walk again, I can play sport again, I can be the athlete that I wanted to be." Andrew was driven to turn his hobby into a full time career. With hard work and determination, Andrew has grown into a hugely successful freestyle athlete, and has sought to make freestyle a mainstream, global sport. Andrew's talents have seen him travel the world to compete and perform, and so far he has visited over 50 countries. "It's been an amazing journey, I get to inspire kids from all over the world to do whatever they want to do in life, and to know that there's no limit to what you can achieve if you put your heart into it." In order to stay on top form, Andrew practices up to five hours a day, five days a week. "It takes a lot of practice, a lot of dedication, a lot of discipline. But I love it." Andrew has also pioneered rugby freestyle and holds the record for the Most rugby ball neck throw and catches in 30 seconds, which he achieved on the set of CBBC's Officially Amazing, in London, UK, on 19 October 2016. After two failed attempts, the pressure was on for Andrew's third and final attempt. However he managed to clinch the title with a total of 20 throw and catches in 30 seconds. "When they told me that I was the Guinness World Records title holder, it meant so much to me - it's a feeling like no other. I definitely have my eye on some more Guinness World Records titles. I'm going to keep training as hard as I can, and hopefully you'll see me break some more records very soon!" 8
While I am a social animal, don’t confuse that for me loving crowded places. I get overwhelmed and scared when there are a lot of people vying for my attention. Plus, if you were my size, wouldn’t you be scared of how many legs you have to dodge?

Perry Stern Speed Without Limits It doesn’t matter what car you’re driving — if you’re on the open road and happen to hit a long vehicle-free straight stretch, for a moment you might consider putting your right foot down to go as fast as the car will take you. It’s human nature: the temptation to go faster, or the need for speed. But you don’t do it (we hope) since it’s illegal and dangerous. However, for one day each year in Sun Valley, Idaho, the authorities close down a remote, long, straight section of Highway 75 and a small group of drivers has the opportunity to push the limits: to go as fast as their cars (and their nerves) will take them. The event is the Sun Valley Tour de Force and, thanks to McLaren, we had a suitable vehicle to fly down that long, straight road — the all-new 720S. 13

Nothing can ruin your picturesque experience in a beautiful city you’ve never been to like the sudden realization that you’ve been pickpocketed. Even if you’re an experienced traveler, pickpockets in some cities can target and rob you with elaborate setups and unprecedented skill. TripAdvisor compiled a list of the cities where you should be on the highest alert for pickpockets, based on information from editors and travelers. The city that took the number one spot was Barcelona, a tourist hotspot full of crowded streets, landmarks, and sightseeing opportunities (in other words, a pickpocket’s dream!). Spain had one more city on the list, too; Madrid took the fourth spot. It was the only country besides Italy to have two locations on the list. The remaining cities in the top five were Rome, Prague, and Paris. Interestingly, European cities made up eight of the top ten. The only non-European pickpocket hotspots were Buenos Aires, Argentina and Hanoi, Vietnam. Many of the cities ranked were noted to have busy, outdoor attractions among their most popular sites, where tourists are very vulnerable to thieves. The list serves as a good reminder that travelers should always be on their guard in places both familiar and unfamiliar, to avoid detrimental problems like these. Make sure you know the signs that you’re about to be pickpocketed before it happens. 14
