Matthew Bain A teen helps a younger boy see that their shared difference is no handicap to success. Jayce Crowder began noticing when he was in kindergarten that he looked different from his classmates. They had two hands. He had one. It started when one boy teased him, says his mother, Cortney Lewis. Jayce’s bubbly enthusiasm soured to sullenness. He’d return to their Des Moines, Iowa, home with questions: Why am I different? Why me? Why? “He actually told us he was mad at God for making him that way,” his mother says. “That was a huge dagger to the heart.” Lewis admits she didn’t know what to do at that point. How could she provide answers to her son’s questions when she had never found those answers herself? A few weeks later, Lewis came home from her job as an orthodontic assistant and turned on the TV to a news story about a six-foot-three eighth grader from Washington, Iowa. Trashaun Willis, then 14, had become an Internet sensation after posting videos of his slam dunks, and, like Jayce, he was missing most of his left arm. Lewis called Jayce in. He was riveted, watching dunk after monstrous dunk. At the time, it seemed that watching Trashaun would simply be an inspiring moment for Jayce—he’d see a thriving role model with a seemingly similar congenital defect. And had it stayed just that, Lewis would have been happy. But little did she know that a family friend had already reached out to the Des Moines Register, asking the newspaper to help set up a meeting with Trashaun to build Jayce’s confidence. The boys met at Washington Middle School on a Saturday afternoon a couple of months later, in April 2017, and instantly bonded. Both of them had had amniotic band syndrome in the womb, a rare condition that caused strands from their mothers’ amniotic sacs to wrap around their left elbows, stunting growth beyond that point. The day was not spent wallowing in self-pity—it was dedicated to fun. They rode bikes around the school’s hallways, took photos, played hide-and-seek, and shot baskets. Trashaun taught Jayce to finish with a high release and put some backspin on the ball. He even gave Jayce a shirt that says “Ten fingers are overrated.” At one point, Trashaun did get serious with Jayce. He talked about their left arms—or lack thereof. He told Jayce he was perfect the way God made him. He said not to let anyone drag him down and that words don’t need to shake his confidence.

“It reassured me,” says Lewis. “I know in my heart that everything’s going to be OK. Tra-shaun has grown up to be a wonderful kid. And I know Jayce is too. As a parent, that’s all you want to know: That everything’s going to be OK.” Since that meeting, Lewis has seen a pronounced difference in her son, who is now seven and in second grade. He recently started wrestling and loves it. Lewis points to Trashaun’s influence. Meeting him, she said, made Jayce “understand that there are others like him.” As for Trashaun, his relationship with Jayce made him look forward to helping more kids, perhaps as a youth coach with NubAbility, a nonprofit dedicated to coaching kids with limb differences. “Honestly, it means a lot to know that I changed Jayce’s life,” Trashaun says. Still, he never dreamed that his videos would have such an impact. “I just thought my friends would see [my videos] and be like, ‘Oh, he dunked it!’” He certainly did.

"Accident, accident" is al wat ou Phillipus uitgekry het... Kom ek begin voor… Phillipus het nog een van daai ou fietse gehad wat ons "back peddles" genoem het, so jou remme en alles het met die ketting saamgewerk. As jou ketting ingee, het jy moeilikheid.

Staff at a hot dog diner in North Carolina have some extra cash to play with this month thanks to a $10,000 tip from a generous YouTube star. The Good Samaritan by the name of MrBeast - who has almost nine million subscribers - left the neatly stacked pile of dollar bills on his table at Sup Dogs in Greenville after ordering just two waters. He had taken only a few sips of his drinks as he perused the menu, only to decide against buying anything else and leaving the huge chunk of change behind for his waitress to find.

RESTAURANT OWNER BRET OLIVERIO

Restaurant owner Bret Oliverio told local TV station WNCT that the waitress kept most of the money and that the rest would be split among all of the staff. "I've seen some really big tips, but not $10,000," he said. "Good people are still doing good things these days so I thought it was pretty cool. This was out of the blue, once in a lifetime - it'll never happen again in my lifetime." Along with the cash, MrBeast - whose notable videos include reading through an entire dictionary in one sitting - also left a note reading: "Thanks for the delicious water." Some of his friends reportedly stayed inside the restaurant to film the reaction of the waitress, but the clip has not yet been posted online.

When he died, Walt Disney left behind a multi-million dollar franchise. But one small note changed everything. There’s no question that Walt Disney’s life changed the world. As the mastermind behind Mickey Mouse and the entire Disney enterprise, his life’s work has inspired children and adults alike for decades. And when he passed away due to lung cancer in 1966, the world truly lost one of the greats. However, Disney made an impact in another (little-known) way, as well. Legend has it that he wrote one last message before being hospitalized prior to his death, says Disney historian Jim Korkis. Titled “TV Projects In Production: Ready for Production or Possible for Escalation and Story,” the note listed four names: Ron Miller, 2 Way Down Cellar, Kurt Russell, and CIA— Mobley. Still, the note’s true meaning remained a mystery for decades. What did Disney’s last message to the world intend to convey? According to former Disney archivist Dave Smith, who found the note, Disney was listing possible future projects for his franchise. And one name stood out: Kurt Russell’s. Disney had expressed his awe of the 15-year-old’s talent before, praising him on television and personally ensuring that the boy received a studio contract. In October 1966, just months before his death, Disney even predicted “a great acting future” for Russell. But ultimately, it was Disney’s last words that ended up launching Russell’s career as an actor. Russell confirmed this suspicion in a 2013 episode of The View. “I assume, as [does] everybody else, that he was talking about some movie that he was thinking about having me in… I don’t know what to make of it other than that,” Russell said. The young actor would go on to star in dozens of Disney films, including The One and Only and Original Family Band. So in the end, we have Disney to thank for one of the most memorable (and hunkiest!) talents onscreen.

Try this old-school remedy: ice. The National Headache Foundation advises applying cold packs on the forehead and temples. A study from the University of Hawaii also found that a frozen wrap placed in the front of the neck, over the carotid arteries, significantly reduced pain in migraine sufferers.

A brick-tastic new record has been set for the Largest LEGO® brick caravan, which consists of a staggering total of 288,630 individual bricks and took five weeks to complete. The record attempt took place in Brisbane, Australia. The record was achieved by John Cochrane Advertising, who created the concept, Caravanning Queensland and Top Parks, who sponsored the event, and Ben "The Brick Builder" Craig, who oversaw the building of the caravan (all Australia). The caravan consisted of basic amenities such as running water and electricity, as well as some home comforts. These included a checkers board, flowers and flower pot, milk and cheese in the fridge, a piece of toast, a saucepan and fried egg, and the Aussie staple, a jar of Vegemite, ALL made of LEGO! Top Parks is an Australian vacation company involving campgrounds and holiday villages, and the caravan was built and hosted at the Top Parks Brisbane Holiday Village. The idea for the LEGO caravan came after John Cochrane Advertising decided they wanted "something big" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Queensland Caravanning and Camping Show which could be taken to different venues, including caravan expos, parks, and shopping centres. Ben Craig, also known as The Brick Builder, was commissioned to draw up the design and start the building process, while Caravanning Queensland and Top Parks got involved to sponsor the project. The original design of the caravan was created through a 3D design CAD programme, which calculated the number of bricks it would take to create the main structure. This design was then followed by Ben and his team of the builders. Each builder had an iPad app that they used while building which allowed them to log the each brick count that they placed onto the model as they were building. The building process and the structure was confirmed by independent witnesses; a civil engineer and a representative of LEGO®, who confirmed the legitimacy of the process. The caravan went on a small tour of the park before being presented with their official Guinness World Records certificate by Adjudicator Brian Sobel. In attendance was Channel 10 and 7 news, the team who created the caravan, and guests and families staying at the park. Top Parks were thoroughly impressed with the project and keen to try their hand at more record breaking with the other partners. "We want to do more! This project has made us like family," – Top Parks However, it seems Ben would like a well-deserved rest (not on a LEGO bed this time!) before embarking on a new project, after saying he thinks he can "finally get a good night’s sleep”. A guess the amount of bricks in the caravan competition was also held at one Top Parks site, with a $500 gift voucher prize, which someone won by guessing within 10 bricks of the correct total. 8

ASPIRIN Daniel Coughlin Another early victim of genericide, Aspirin was a registered trademark owned by German pharmaceutical company Bayer until 1919 when it was revoked in several countries including the U.S., the U.K. and France, as part of Germany's World War I reparations.

Donald F. Duncan's eponymous toy firm popularized the yo-yo and owned the trademark from 1930 until 1965, when it was challenged in the U.S. legal system. Much to Duncan's chagrin, an appeals judge decided the name had become part of common parlance and revoked the trademark.

Here’s an easy and fun science experiment that’s great for helping kids learn about static electricity. Try bending water with static electricity produced by combing your hair or rubbing it with an inflated balloon, can it really be done? Give it a try and find out! WHAT YOU’LL NEED: • A plastic comb (or an inflated balloon) • A narrow stream of water from a tap • Dry hair INSTRUCTIONS:  Turn on the water so it is falling from the tap in a narrow stream (just a few millimetres across but not droplets).  Run the comb through your hair just as you normally would when brushing it (do this around 10 times). If you are using a balloon then rub it back and forth against your hair for a few seconds.  Slowly move the comb or balloon towards the stream of water (without touching it) while watching closely to see what happens. WHAT’S HAPPENING? The static electricity you built up by combing your hair or rubbing it against the balloon attracts the stream of water, bending it towards the comb or balloon like magic! Negatively charged particles called electrons jump from your hair to the comb as they rub together, the comb now has extra electrons and is negatively charged. The water features both positive and negatively charged particles and is neutral. Positive and negative charges are attracted to each other so when you move the negatively charged comb (or balloon) towards the stream, it attracts the water's positively charged particles and the stream bends!

From serving beer to elephants to eating peanuts in church, we’ve rounded up the weirdest, wackiest food laws from across the country. Throughout Alabama, it’s illegal for a person to walk down the street with an ice cream cone in their back pocket. Back when most people got around on horseback, horse thieves would put ice cream in their pocket to lure horses away without being charged with stealing. Luckily, not many people are trying to steal horses off the streets of Alabama today—and most prefer ice cream the traditional way.
