By Rachel Silver Energizer® (USA) first introduced its AA lithium batteries in 1992. Since then it has become known for providing best-in-class power for a wide array of applications and now holds a Guinness World Records title to prove it. With great confidence in the product's unique ability to maintain high-quality power for an extended period, the company was eager to validate their assertions through scientific analysis and as a result, hopefully set a Guinness World Records title for Longest-lasting AA battery. After rigorous testing of its product against others available in the market, Energizer’s battery performance in numerous realworld situations from digital cameras and toys to lighting and audio devices outlasted the competition across the board. Once testing was complete, the data was sent to Guinness World Records for verification and it was confirmed that the Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA battery was in fact, the longest-lasting! "Energizer® batteries have powered many amazing moments in history, and we're not stopping now," said Lori Shambro, Vice President, Global Marketing at Energizer Holdings, Inc. "We're delighted to add a Guinness World Records title to our legacy, which will be as long-lasting as our AA batteries." The company revealed the record-breaking news on Tuesday 4 December with a press release and short video that can be found across its digital platforms worldwide and now that it’s holiday season, the announcement couldn’t have come at a better time. Following the announcement, the brand released two additional videos featuring their record-breaking product and its long-lasting ability to power toys and gaming systems - important news for those purchasing holiday gifts. Watch the three video clips on YouTube here! https://youtu.be/uPaPoxJ6fMQ https://youtu.be/5827JFYYQPk https://youtu.be/wBDcGWJhfss In addition to setting a Guinness World Records title, Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA batteries also hold power for up to 20 years in storage, perform in extreme temperatures from -40° F to 140°F, weigh 33 percent less than alkaline AA batteries, and are guaranteed leak-proof under standard use.

"Kultuurhistoriese gebou"… Jip, daar woon mense in kultuurhistoriese geboue in Duitsland. My vriendin, nooi my so 'n paar jaar terug saam Duitsland toe, ek se dadelik "Ja". Maggies so 'n kans kom min. Sy waarsku my, ek gaan werk. Ek sê: "Hard werk is my middelnaam" en voorts... ek gaan ongeskikte mense ontmoet, ek sê vir haar: "Is reg, ongeskikte mense is my kos". In my een hand het ek my "Carry on"... oor my skouer, my handsak en in my ander hand, hierdie monster van 'n tas. Hy gryp my monster, berispe my oor my "disrespek" vir historiese geboue. Rika. 3

PATTING THEIR HEAD Charlotte Hilton Andersen How would you feel if someone gave you unwanted hugs and commanded you to “make friends” with everyone you meet? You can pat your dog on her head, but that’s only because she loves you and recognizes you as the one in charge. For the most part, dogs really dislike being patted on the head, Marrs says. This is doubly true for anyone who’s not you. “To a dog, a head pat is a somewhat rude and threatening gesture, especially when the human stands over the dog, as most do,” she explains. Instead? Dogs prefer it if you crouch down to their level and let them come to you. And if you are petting another dog, opt for chin or chest scratches instead of head pats.

Johnny and I, along with our two young sons, Barry and Doyle, lived in a small rural community in southern Alabama in 1959. We had bought Barry a bicycle and Doyle a tricycle for Christmas, and had hidden them in the carport, where Johnny would assemble them on Christmas Eve after the kids were asleep. But on Christmas Eve day, Johnny had to go to Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, an hour away, to repair a Thunderbird F-100 Super Sabre jet. I had my hands full with baking, preparing for Christmas dinner and caring for two energetic boys. Just as I was making my favorite frosting for the chocolate cake, a neighbor knocked on the door. Beatrice was the only person on our road with a telephone. The base had called to say that a heavy torque wrench had come apart in Johnny’s hand, knocking his elbow out of joint and chipping the bone. My sister-in-law Ruth and her husband, Otto, took me to the hospital while my mother-in-law stayed with the children. We got there to find Johnny with a cast on his arm, raring to get home despite the doctor’s orders that he stay. It was Christmas Eve, Johnny argued, and he had bikes to assemble for his boys. The doctor said he’d consider dismissing him the next morning if Johnny could find someone to drive him home. On Christmas morning, Johnny contacted the base and was told everyone was off duty; there was no one to drive him home. Then he tried the motor pool. They said orders would have to come from higher up, so Johnny kept making calls. At last, a big blue car with the Air Force insignia rolled up to the hospital asking for the man who needed a lift home so he could put together Christmas bikes for his boys. Johnny’s mother and I were putting dinner on the table when we heard the car. We were thrilled to see Johnny, his arm in a sling, getting out, assisted by a uniformed Air Force officer. With Otto’s help, Johnny assembled the boys’ gifts, and they all had a jolly time playing together that afternoon. Johnny would later require two surgeries on his arm, but those were in the future. That cold Christmas Day, our hearts were full of gratitude for the many people who had gone the extra mile to bring us together on the holiday. — Jeanette Dyess Ryan, Robertsdale, Alabama. Avoiding family stress during the holiday season is pulling off a Christmas miracle all your own. 6
Dawn Yanek Don’t dismiss this important cue from your body that could signal huge health problems. Your life may depend on it. Pressure or tightness in the jaw, neck, or arms... Believe it or not, you might be having a heart attack—especially if you’re a woman. Women under 55 who have had a heart attack are actually more likely to have experienced lesser-known symptoms like this. They are also more likely to have experienced three or more symptoms other than chest pain before having a cardiac incident, according to a study published in Circulation. The problem is, these symptoms are often misinterpreted or ignored, even by doctors, and this puts women at an increased risk of dying in comparison with men of the same age. So be aware, be smart, and be your own best advocate.

SUDAFED, VICKS Carrie Madormo There are some surprisingly strict laws on both prescription and over -the-counter medications around the world. Don’t pack something that might put you in jail. If you’re traveling to Japan and you have a cold, leave the overthe-counter medications at home. Common cold treatments like Sudafed and Vicks that contain the ingredient pseudoephedrine are banned in the country. 9
Karyn Repinski We may be tiny buggers (about the shape and size of an apple seed), but our presence elicits a massive case of the heebie jeebies. We’re attracted to certain colors. As a recent study in the Journal of Medical Entomology showed, we really like dark red and black (so maybe don’t choose bedding in those colors) and tend to stay away from white, green, and yellow. Researchers think these colors offer good protection from predators like ants and spiders. And since we have a red exoskeleton, it’s likely that we’re drawn to this color because it suggests the presence of other bed bugs—and we generally like to stick together to stay safe.

Kaitlyn Chamberlin Experts agree that if you stop making these mistakes, you’ll be a better—and safer—chef in no time. Most people hold a knife by wrapping all their fingers around the handle or with their pointer finger on the top of the knife blade, but these grips aren’t only wrong (big kitchen mistake!), they are very unsafe. According to Robert Ramsey, Chef Instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education, you’re actually supposed to hold your kitchen knife with your thumb on one side of the blade and your pointer finger on the other side with your remaining three fingers wrapped tightly around the top part of the handle. “If you’re holding your knife properly, you’ll be able to make straighter cuts,” he says.
Marissa Laliberte You’ll be surprised to find out which common “cancer-fighting” habits aren’t nearly as effective as you think. Taking vitamin D supplements. Because cancer patients tend to have low levels of vitamin D, researchers have wondered whether getting the “sunshine vitamin” in pill form could protect against cancer. But a study of 2,300 healthy postmenopausal women showed that after four years, those who had supplemented with vitamin D3 and calcium didn’t lower their risk of cancer. Those results were confirmed in an even larger study in the New England Journal of Medicine a year later. Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard followed more than 25,000 healthy adults over about five years and found that vitamin D was no better than a placebo at protecting against cancer or cancer-related deaths. There was some evidence that vitamin D might protect people with a healthy BMI but not overweight people, but that was before the researchers factored in other things like age and sex.

BESTANDDELE: 220 g Strooisuiker 2 Groot eiers 30 ml Gladde appelkooskonfyt 125 ml Melk 30 ml Botter/margarine 5 ml Wit asyn 185 g Gewone meelblom 5 ml Koeksoda 1 Knypie sout

HULA HOOP In 1958, US toy company Wham-O introduced the Hula Hoop. The tubed plastic rings, which were inspired by Australian bamboo exercise rings, fast became a fad and though the name has become generic, the Hula Hoop trademark is owned by Wham-O and ultimately its parent company InterSport Corp. 15

KID FRIENDLY BREAD AND PEANUT BUTTER BIRD FEEDER HERE ARE THE SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE THE FEEDERS: • Bread • Peanut Butter • Cookie Cutters • Bird Seed • Twine or string First we started by placing slices of bread on a cutting board. You might have to help your child push the cookie cutter all the way through the bread, depending on how old your child is. After I cut out the shapes, I poked a small hole at the top of each cut out using a straw. This is where the twine will go through, so you can hang your feeders outside. Next, we let the cut outs dry on the cutting board overnight. This allows the bread to harden. I flipped the bread over just once, so that both sides of the bread would harden evenly. Once the bread has hardened, use a butter knife to spread the peanut butter on to the bread. This is the messy and fun part for the kids. After you have spread peanut butter on both sides of the bread cut outs, roll the bread in bird seed until completely coated. I had to use the straw again to remove any peanut butter and bird seed that got inside the holes. Next, cut a piece of twine and tie in a knot. Hang your feeders on a tree branch, bush or shepard’s hook and enjoy! 17
