At the age of 10, Jeison Orlando Rodríguez Hernandez from Maracay, Venezuela, already knew he probably had the world's largest feet. With a size 45 in Venezuelan measurements and already the biggest feet in his family, Jeison did indeed go on to set a new record for the Largest feet on a living person - male in 2014 which was extended in 2016 when his right foot measured 40.1 cm and his left foot reached 39.6 cm. As a child he was often teased for the size of his feet and finding shoes has never been easy. When he couldn't find any in his hometown which fitted, Jeison had to wear sandals made of old tyres and fabric to reach school or other appointments. However since 2011, shoemaker Georg Wessels in Germany has been creating new shoes with a special material just for him, while Jeison's original sandals from his school days now sit in Georg's museum. Georg flew out to Venezuela to meet Jeison and deliver his first pair of shoes since Jeison was even struggling to fit on a plane. But 2018 has been a big year for the 22-year-old. His record-breaking feet have grown further, with the right measuring 40.55 cm and the left now at 40.47 cm, although he's been undergoing treatment in a bid to stop his feet growing further. Not only that, he also travelled to Germany in June for the first time to get his new shoes and celebrate being recognised for his unique attributes, before flying to Italy in November to star in La Notte dei Record (The Night of Records). It was there where we caught up with Jeison, who is also 220 cm tall, to talk about his record. "Finding shoes in my size is always a challenge," he said. "I already struggled to find my size when I was 16 years old. Guinness World Records made me appreciate myself more, especially the value of the size of my feet. Today I’m proud to have the biggest feet on Earth." Although the world knows the story of Jeison for being the person with the largest feet in the world, his big dream is to become a top chef, baking cakes with various flavours all blended together. Honestly, we can’t wait to try that! Jeison’s hopes and dreams are not limited to become the world’s best pastry chef. "I would very much like to be a pastry chef, but first and foremost I would like to help people who suffer with the same condition as me. I would like to be able to provide them and their families with the support to deal with this condition – that is what I would like." 2
Onbekende bron

Lisa Milbrand For a gorgeous glow when you get up in the morning, avoid this bad bedtime skin habit: Overcleaning your skin Too much of a good thing could be damaging to your skin. “Most patients overcleanse their skin, compromising the moisture barrier and microbiome of the skin’s natural protective layer,” says Graceanne Svendsen, a celebrity facialist at Shafer Plastic Surgery & Laser Center in New York City. “When the helpful, natural bacteria is cleansed off, we are more susceptible to infections, breakouts and parched looking skin.” 5

A pair or luxurious lips valued at $757,975 Australian dollars have earned diamond jeweller Rosendorff Diamonds the glamorous Guinness World Records title for Most valuable lip art. The record attempt, which took place in Perth, Australia, was organised by Rosendorff on 7 September 2018 to celebrate its 50th anniversary in style. Rosendorff is a specialist diamond jeweller, founded in 1963 by Craig Rosendorff. "At Rosendorff Diamonds, we pride ourselves on excellence, and what could be more excellent than holding a Guinness World Records title," Charlie Octavia, model for Rosendorff. The artwork was designed and executed by make-up artist Clare Mac, who painstakingly placed all the diamonds on the model’s lips over the course of two and a half hours. Clare first applied a layer of black matte lipstick, and then attached each diamond to the lips using false eyelash adhesive. The diamonds, 126 in total, were selected from Rosendorff’s own collection, and amassed a total carat weight of 22.92ct. Writing on Instagram recently, Clare said: "Since we are so close to the end of the year I thought I would start sharing some of my 2018 highlights and working with over $750,000 worth of real diamonds from @rosendorffdiamonds and setting the World Record for Most Valuable Lip Art is not only a years highlight but a career one!! My Stunning and very patient model @charlie.octavia.photo looks incredible doesnt she!! Protecting the costly diamonds ($757,975 AUD / £418,106.00 GPB / €467,361.02 EUR / $540,858.59 USD) was a high priority, and a police officer was on site to dissuade any trouble. After the attempt, model Charlie Octavia was whisked away to the jeweller's vault, where each diamond was carefully removed by Mr Craig Rosendorff himself. Ensuring they adhered to the strict guidelines and months of preparation was the hardest part of the challenge according to Rosendorff. "Endless hours of researching, designing, planning, trialling and liaising to ensure we qualified for the record was quite challenging, but that's what makes having a Guinness World Record such a prestigious achievement," added Charlie. "We are so incredibly honoured to be a record holder. Thank you Guinness World Records for this incredible opportunity!" 6
Krista Carothers A swallowed piece of gum doesn’t take seven years to digest. Nobody knows where this myth came from, but it’s been passed along through generations of school-aged kids gulping down their gum to avoid getting busted chewing it in class. A Florida pediatric gastroenterologist named David Milov tells Scientific American that it’s definitely not true—although he does state that he occasionally comes across a hunk of chewed gum in the digestive tract during colonoscopies or endoscopies. But “usually it’s not something that’s any more than a week old.” Most gum passes right through the digestive system.

Molly Pennington, PhD Use this memory tip and trick to help you conquer those hard-to-spell word: Necessary Necessary is a tough one that often appears with two “c’s,” like “neccessary.” Folks aren’t sure which consonant gets a double letter so you may see “neccessarry” appear, too. English doctoral student, Stephanie Allen offers using the mnemonic “one collar and two socks,” to remember a single “c” followed by two “s’s.” The logic goes that the collar is at the top of your body and the socks, second, at the bottom. Or you could use something like “one coffee, two sugars”—the necessary items to start your morning off right!

Jessica Migala Science is always marching forward—here are the most exciting advancements of the year in cancer. Cancer: A vaccine is on the way Earlier this year, Stanford University researchers announced in a press release that they were recruiting lymphoma patients in a clinical trial to test a potential cancer vaccine. The treatment involves injecting immune-stimulating agents into solid tumors; in trials in mice, this has been shown to eliminate “all traces of cancer in the animals” without side effects of traditional immunotherapy. “Our approach uses a one-time application of very small amounts of two agents to stimulate the immune cells only within the tumor itself. In the mice, we saw amazing, bodywide effects, including the elimination of tumors all over the animal,” said oncology professor Ronald Levy, MD, in the press release. If human trials are successful, Dr. Levy says that it could potentially treat all different types of cancer tumors.

T-Rex was born with a heredity condition that caused a deformity, and the man trying to sell him outside of a grocery store simply left him there when nobody wanted him. Luckily, a kind lady brought him to a shelter, and thanks to California Animal Rescue, he was able to find Karen Rogers, who offered to house him temporarily then quickly fell in love with him and adopted him herself. Initially he had some trouble getting around, but three surgeries later, he walks on three legs with ease and lives like a puppy in a five-year-old dog’s body. He lives up to the name T-Rex by tearing into his toys, chasing the other dogs around the house, and playing fetch like his life depends on it. He’s also offered Rogers a ton of support. After all, empathy is one of the superpowers all dogs have. “My mom passed away three years ago from lung cancer; she was diagnosed and died within eight months,” Rogers says. “T would sit on my lap for hours in the evening, as I went through my mourning time. He has so much energy, but if I was sitting at my computer, he would curl up on my lap and just let me be sad.” T-Rex is also philanthropic, taking part in Paws for Love every year, using his tail instead of his paws (like the other dogs) to paint pictures and raise money for their cause. “They support rescues by awarding grants to them to help with vet bills,” Rogers says. “They paid $1,000 towards T’s surgery, so every year, T paints for them and they sell it at the gala. He tries to help them raise money by showing people how donated money is used to help dogs and cats.” 14
