PROFESSIONAL STRONGMAN TEARS VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES IN HALF TO EARN NEW RECORD By Lauren Festa

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/R_ibAAXQY3s

Professional strongman and weightlifting champion, Bill Clark (USA) has muscled his way into Guinness World Records history by setting the record for most license plates torn in one minute. The competitive powerlifter was able to tear an impressive 23 US government issued license plates in half, during his attempt in Binghamton, New York, on 22 August 2018. The license plates used were not cut or scored, and each was handed to Bill one at a time before he used his bare hands to tear them into two separate pieces, even sustaining a few cuts along the way. Bill began lifting weights as a child to deal with stress, and with the help of great coaches went on to win both a US National and World Powerlifting Championship. No stranger to record-breaking, Bill has set over 100 state, national, and world records in powerlifting and other strength sports throughout his career. Some of his more notable weightlifting highlights include a bench press of over 250 kg, and a deadlift of over 350 kg while competing in the 90 kg weight class, but his most recent achievement marks his first official Guinness World Records title. As a life-long fan, Bill couldn't have been more excited to be a record holder. "I can remember looking through the Guinness World Records book over and over, dreaming of one day being a part of it. This may very well be the crowning record of my career." In 2014, Bill was inducted into the National Strength and Power Hall of Fame, and today he continues to inspire those around him through his work as both a motivational speaker and a strength coach. His lessons and speeches often include the bending of steel motorcycle parts, the rolling up heavy duty frying pans into a "telescope," the tearing of decks of playing cards, and the occasional lifting of cars. Bill hopes to use his title in his quest to give back to others and raise awareness for two major causes close to his heart: children's cancer and scleroderma. 2

KORS: • Smelt 125 g margarien en voeg 1 pak marshmallows by.

“Father of Traffic Safety” William Eno invented the stop sign, crosswalk, traffic circle, one-way street, and taxi stand—but never learned how to drive. The example of irony: He never got the chance to benefit from his own invention. 5

Andy Simmons One sudden move by the occupants of the car would send it over the edge.

It was rush hour on the morning of June 1 in the West Texas city of San Angelo. Heather Santellano, 36, was driving her white 2012 Mazda on Houston Harte Frontage Road with her nine-year-old daughter and ten-year-old son in the back. Suddenly, a red pickup truck cut them off. -Santellano turned the wheel hard to the right, sending the Mazda skidding off the road and down an embankment that ended in a drop-off after about 50 feet. If the car didn’t stop, it would go airborne and plunge onto the road some 20 feet below. Then a bit of luck: As the car raced toward the edge, its under-carriage got stuck on the cement lip of the embankment ledge, stopping it cold. The occupants, however, were far from safe. The car had come to rest on top of a retaining wall, literally teetering on the edge of disaster. One sudden move by anyone inside could send it over. Jacob Rodriguez watched the scene unfold from the truck-accessories company where he works. A veteran, he whispered a Navy mantra: “Ship, shipmates, self,” then he and four other men ran to the car. They leaped onto the trunk to balance the weight as the terrified kids in the back seat watched. Meanwhile, Julio Vasquez and his nephew, Marco Vasquez, were driving to their jobs at nearby Premier Automotive. Julio jumped out of the car to help while Marco went to the shop, grabbed a heavy-duty strap, and returned to the dangling car. He tethered the Mazda to an F-350 truck that had been driven over by one of the other rescuers. With the car secured, the group carefully opened the back doors and helped the children out. But their departure shifted the car’s weight, causing it to tilt forward. The men, still on the trunk, implored Santellano to jump into the back seat to rebalance the weight. She did and then inched out the back door. Finally, the men carefully got off the trunk. Everyone was safe.

Count yourself lucky if you’ve never had to deal with a boss like this. We had a better discount After two days of heated wrangling, we got one of our vendors to agree to a 35 percent discount. As we were about to sign the contract, my boss, who had not been a party to the negotiations, walked in and tore it up, saying, “I’m going to teach you purchasing people how to play hardball. That’s the way you make it in this world.” He turned to the vendor’s sales rep and said, “We want a 20 percent discount; take it or leave it.” The delighted rep immediately agreed. As my boss left, he said to us, “I hope you learned something from that.”

Lisa Milbrand The best way to control pests in your house? Don’t make it enticing for them to live there. Dirty dishes Put washing dishes on the top of your to-do list if you’re passionate about being pest free. “You might want to think twice about waiting until the morning to do the dishes,” says Brad Smith, president of Preferred Pest Control. “Insect pests such as flies, ants, and cockroaches are highly attracted to leftover food on dishes.” 8

WHAT YOU NEED:

      

pastel blue construction paper pastel pink construction paper scissors or paper trimmer wiggle eye stickers glue white paper black marker

Cut 4 long strips of paper (we cut along the length of the A4/letter sized paper) and 4 shorter strips of paper (these we cut along the width of the A4/letter sized paper). The width of the strips we used was about the width of a thumb. Take the 2 long strips and glue them together making a cross. Glue the other 2 long strips, making a snowflake. All strips must be evenly distributed (no need to be super precise though). Do the same with the short strips. Take the “snowflake” with long strips and start making a paper ball. Glue the strips together, forming loops, until all strips are glued together and you get a nice looking ball. Do the same with the short strips “snowflake”. Now you got two sized paper balls. Glue the paper balls together. You might need to hold them together for a while for the glue to really dry. Cut the ears out of pastel blue construction paper. Also cut a smaller set out of pastel pink and glue it inside the blue ears. Cut a snout and draw a nose. Also cut teeth out of white paper and draw a line in the middle with a black marker. Glue the teeth on the snout. Glue the ears and the snout on the head (smaller ball) part of the bunny. Add two wiggle eye stickers. Your Easy Paper Bunny Craft is all done and ready to be displayed. 9

Tina Donvito You might think this isn’t a big deal, but it can take a toll on your body over time. Sitting for too long Along with staring at a screen, simply sitting all day has bad consequences for our health. “As a chronic behavior, [sitting] leads to all the risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle including weight gain, diabetes, and high blood pressure,” Dr. Ansari says. Although some research shows an increase in blood pressure or numbness specifically while sitting cross-legged, Dr. Ansari says those effects are only temporary, and won’t really affect long-term health. “Crossing your legs doesn’t cause clots except for those at risk of arthritis or high blood pressure, or those who are physically inactive longterm,” Dr. Fowler agrees. But, walking throughout the day helps to prevent arthritis, and can also help to prevent high blood pressure. “Most of the harmful effects are from the simple act of sitting for prolonged periods,” Dr. Ansari says. Studies show walking around periodically can help. When you are seated, it’s important to have good posture so you don’t get neck or backaches. “When you do sit make sure you scoot into the seat and use the back of the chair to help you sit up straight,” Dr. Ansari says. “This will help ease the tension on your back muscles. Your knees should be at 90 degree angles and your feet flat on the floor.”

It seems so embedded in our culture, but even as late as 1927, Time magazine printed a chart showing that four major department stores suggested dressing boys in pink, according to Smithsonian Magazine. In 1918 the trade publication Earnshaw’s Infants’ Department wrote, “The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.” Jo B. Paoletti, a historian at the University of Maryland and author of the book Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls from the Boys in America, told Smithsonian that the color designations were pretty much arbitrary until the 1940s when manufacturers attempted to interpret the preferences of its American audience and could easily have gone the other way.

Stilte….
