AFTER A SALON TURNS AWAY, A PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED WOMAN, A STRANGER MAKES A BEAUTIFUL GESTURE

1 Johannes 4:7, 8 Geliefdes, laat ons mekaar liefhê; want die liefde is uit God, en elkeen wat liefhet, is uit God gebore en ken God. Hy wat nie liefhet nie, het God nie geken nie, want God is liefde.

AFTER A SALON TURNS AWAY A PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED WOMAN, A STRANGER MAKES A BEAUTIFUL GESTURE Andy Simmons "She’s a girlie girl. She wants to look pretty. So why can’t she?" “Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face,” begins a motivational quote. “It’s about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul. Oh, and pretty nails!” That may well be Angela Peters’s motto. In July 2018, Peters, 36, rolled her wheelchair into a nail salon located at the Walmart shopping center in Burton, Michigan, with the idea of bedazzling her fingers. But Peters, who has cerebral palsy, was turned away. The salon (which is not owned by Walmart), she says, told her that they were afraid it would be too difficult to properly paint her nails given that her hands shook. What was meant to be a day of beauty bliss for Peters was now a disappointment. Watching the interaction from a few feet away was a Walmart cashier about to go on her break. Ebony Harris, 40, recognized Peters as a Walmart regular. Now what she recognized in Peters was a kindred spirit. “She’s a girlie girl,” Harris told ABC12 of Flint, Michigan. “She’s just like you, me, my daughter, anybody. She wants to look pretty. So why can’t she?” Harris approached Peters. “Do you want me to do your nails?” she asked. A smile spread across Peters’s face. “Yeah!” Harris escorted Peters into the beauty aisle, where they shopped for nail polish. They settled on a bright blue—a statement colour that would catch every eye. They then made their way into a neighbouring Subway, found a table for two, and set up shop. Harris gently took Peters’s hand into hers and carefully began painting her nails. “She moved her hands a little bit, and she kept saying she was sorry,” Harris recalls. “I told her, ‘Don’t say that. You’re fine.’” If anything, the shoe was on the other hand, as it were. “I was a little nervous and was shaking because I didn’t want to mess her nails up,” Harris admitted to ABC News. “I told her she’s a blessing to us, to anybody, not just me. She makes me look at life and appreciate it much more than I have.” A fellow Walmart employee stopped by to suggest that the blue nails could do with a little extra zing. So they added some glitter polish. Watching it all with awe and admiration was Subway employee Tasia Smith. What struck her most was the ease and gentleness displayed by Harris as she painted Peters’s nails, all the while chatting as if they were old friends. Smith was so taken by the scene that she wrote about it on Facebook. “They were so patient with her,” she wrote. “Thank you to the Walmart workers for making this beautiful girl’s day!” Peters, who runs a poetry website, heavenlypoems.com, harbors no bitterness toward the nail salon that turned her away. (The salon claims they denied Peters service because they were too busy.) “When people do us wrong we must forgive,” Peters wrote on Facebook. “I just [want to] educate people that people with different challenges, like being in a wheelchair, can have our own business and get our nails done like anyone else.” Though in Peters’s case, there was certainly something special about this manicure. Flaring out her fingers to better show off her nails, she told ABC12, “I’m like, ‘Wow! These are amazing!’” Feeling inspired?

Lauren Cahn Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh are one of the planet’s most enduring “old married couples.” Theirs is a marriage based on love: Royals have traditionally married their royal relatives for two reasons. First, they’re not commoners. Second, weddings between royals tend to forge and strengthen political alliances between ruling families. But like her parents before her, Elizabeth and Philip married solely for love (King George VI had to ask several times for his wife’s hand before she finally agreed to marry him and his royal lifestyle). “I ask nothing more than that Philip and I should be as happy as my father and mother have been,” Elizabeth stated at her wedding breakfast. “Our daughter is marrying the man she loves,” noted the King.

Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita Another one from the artillery of Swedish manufacturers, this one is the most expensive street legal production car in the whole of the world. The car redeems the value due to the diamond coated weave exterior finish. It has diamond dust impregnated within the carbon fibres. It has a 4.8-liter, dual charged V8 engine underneath. It powers around 1004 horsepower and 797 lb-ft. The car remains a limited edition as only three of them were ever made. Price- $ 4.8 million These are truly the ones that lure everyone into. No one could really resist the sight of these beasts, literally no one. 6

Kelsey Kloss Orange peels as an ant repellent: You might think using food parts to repel pests is a terrible idea, but orange peels are actually a natural ant repellent. They contain an oil made of limonene. This substance is naturally repellent to ants, so if you have a creepy-crawly problem, consider using your leftover orange peels to banish them. Livestrong.com recommends putting some in a blender, mixing with water, and dabbing the mixture on and around anthills. You can also try putting it, or even the peels themselves, around entrances to your house, or bringing some with you if you go camping or hiking. And it’s not just ants that flee from limonene; flies and mosquitoes hate it, too.

Jessica Migala You may expect that your back is going to hurt, but leg weakness, foot pain, and hand numbness are also herniated disc symptoms. What is a slipped disc? From too-high heels to poor nutrition, your back can start aching for any number of reasons. Sometimes, when the shock-absorbing discs in your vertebrae herniate or rupture, their gel-like centre can press up against and irritate surrounding nerves. The result? You may feel significant pain. However, that’s not a guarantee—many people don’t have any symptoms, or their herniated disc symptoms could be masquerading as something else. Your hands are numb Herniated disc symptoms don’t just include pain. Because the slipped disc is affecting the nerves in your spinal column, it can affect any number of ways messages are transmitted and perceived by the brain. The area where your herniated disc symptoms appear may provide a clue where the problem lies in your spine. For instance: Having issues typing? Hand numbness is a sign that your cervical spine (located in your neck) is the source of trouble, says Dr. Tien. “The nerves that give you sensation in your hands originate higher up in your spinal cord,” she adds.

Cancers don’t develop overnight. Of course, you should always check with your doctor with any concerns. Get 15 minutes of sun a day: Almost 90 percent of your body’s vitamin D comes directly from the sunlight— not from food or supplements. Studies have shown that a vitamin D deficiency can reduce communication between cells, causing them to stop sticking together and allowing cancer cells to spread, according to Cancer.net, a patient information website from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Vitamin D may also help promote proper cell maturation and reproduction; kinks in these processes can lead to cancer growth. People with low levels of vitamin D have a higher risk of multiple cancers, including breast, colon, prostate, ovarian, and stomach, as well as osteoporosis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and high blood pressure. But avoid overexposure, which can cause skin cancer—you only need a few minutes a day to produce adequate vitamin D levels.

“I worked at a paper processing plant, so for Take Your Daughter To Work Day, I was struggling to think of things my five-year-old daughter might like to see that weren’t dangerous or just paper. I finally found some big cardboard barrels that the paper was shipped in and she loved playing in them. She was having so much fun I left her there while I finished my duties. I’m ashamed to admit this but once I got in the rhythm of work, I completely forgot about her! That is until it was time to go home. I raced around the plant looking for her but she was nowhere to be found. Just as I was trying to think how to tell my wife I’d lost our kid, my coworker found her in one of the barrels, curled up and sleeping peacefully. She didn’t know she was ‘lost’ and was delighted when we ‘found’ her, thinking we’d all been playing a game and she’d won. Truth was, I was the real winner that day because she’s the prize of a lifetime.” —Bill G., Idaho Falls, Idaho. 12

By Aya Ali A perfume bottle boasting more than 3,500 diamonds has been unveiled in Dubai. Called SHUMUKH, the perfume now holds the record for most diamonds set on a perfume bottle with 3,571. The new unisex fragrance made by Spirit of Dubai Parfums (part of Nabeel Perfumes Group) is also described as the world’s most expensive at a cost of $1.295 million. The bottle was designed by Asghar Adam Ali Ibrahim, and sits in a wheeled pedestal. Once situated in its pedestal, it stands 1.97 m tall. Users can adjust the sprayer height and direction with a remote control. Spirit of Dubai says SHUMUKH, which translates to 'deserving the highest', unites both jewellery and perfume to create a product that "tells the tale of Dubai through seven core design elements". These are: pearl diving (Durra); falconry (Baz); Arabian horses (Abjar); roses (Narjesi); luxury (Haibah); Arabian hospitality (Diwan) and Dubai’s stature as a ‘city of the future’ (Aamal). After the certificate presentation on 12 March, the record-breaking bottle was displayed in The Dubai Mall’s Fashion Avenue as part of its ART+ series.

From a bar in the clouds to finding more water from the Moon, outer space is constantly surprising us. There’s a bar in the sky: It may seem like a bartender’s dream (or nightmare), but way up beyond our atmosphere, there’s a gas cloud made from alcohol about 1,000 times the diameter of our entire solar system. There’s enough alcohol there for about 400 septillion pints of beer (that’s 400 followed by 24 zeros!). To put that into perspective, Science Alert notes that’s “enough alcohol to supply 300,000 pints of beer every day to every single person on Earth for the next billion years.” Cheers! 15
