A STORYBOOK LIFE MADE BETTER In 1967, John Larson was adopted in the San Francisco Bay Area— far from where his birth father could find him. His birth mother had broken off an engagement with his father, then headed west to put her son up for adoption and start a new life. “I lived most of my life thinking I was special because my adoptive parents had chosen me. I never once felt like there was a missing piece. I was blessed with incredible parents,” Larson says. He had no idea that his birth father, Randy Brill, had been searching for him his entire life. Larson purchased 23AndMe kits for his four sons, one of whom is adopted, as well as one for himself on Christmas. “I thought it would be nice to have genetic information on myself, to know where my ancestors came from and get a health history.” After he received results, he also got a notification that he shared a large percentage of DNA with a woman named Rachel Brill. “I sent her an email and she asked if she could call me. She told me to sit down, and then she said, ‘I’m your half-sister. I have a younger brother who is your half brother. My father has been looking for you all of your life.’” The reunion of Larson and his father is still an emotional topic. “It was the highlight of my life. Here I was looking into someone else’s eyes that were my own, only older. Our handshakes are the same. We wore the same suit to the reunion, we had the same money clip. We both love flashlights and keep them everywhere.” As for his sister, it turned out they both climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with the same crew, just six months apart. Larson says finding his family has been more than he could have hoped for. “I have this part of me that I didn’t know existed. I had this storybook childhood, I have a beautiful family, my life was complete—and here’s this gift that God has given me. I couldn’t ask for more.” 2
Hier is ‘n wonderlike verduideliking. “Hier, kry solank so slukkie kook olie,” offer haar ma. “Yuck” sê die dogter. “Wat van ‘n paar rou eiers?” “Nee, sies ma!” “Wil jy dalk so happie meel hê? of miskien ‘n lepeltjie bak poeier?”

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/SphN9dJ0kaY After two years of trying, Sand Skulptern Festival in Binz, Rügen, has finally created the world's tallest sandcastle. Skulptura Projects GmbH has created a castle measuring 17.65 m high in Binz, Germany, which was adjudicated on 5 June 2019. The record was broken for the Sand Skulpturen Festival’s 10th anniversary. An international team of 12 sculptors and eight technicians from Russia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Holland and Latvia created the huge structure in three-and-a-half weeks. There’s no internal structure supporting the castle up, and no additives in the water to bind the 11,000 tonnes of sand together. The circular base diameter of the sandcastle measures approximately 26 m. The attempt was led by Thomas van den Dungen, a sand sculpting enthusiast who has already been involved in three successful Guinness World Records attempts, including the longest sand sculpture and most sandcastles built in one hour. Thomas said he’s had his eye on the tallest sandcastle record for some time and has now been able to break the previous record of 16.68 m, achieved by Schauinsland-reisen gmbh in Duisburg, Germany in September 2007. Third time lucky. Dungen has been attempting this record attempt since 2017. In their first attempt the sandcastle disastrously collapsed three days before completion while protected shore swallows foiled a second record attempt last year. However their record-breaking sandcastle is still standing strong, forming part of an exhibition, "Best of: 10 Years Sandfest Rügen". 7
Joanne Chen If you’re going to Google your symptoms—and everyone does—you might as well do it right. We asked experts about the most common mistakes people make. Here’s what they told us. Don’t search using diagnostic terms When Googling your symptoms, it’s better to search using a basic keyword like “headache,” rather than adding diagnostic terms such as “headache and brain tumor.” Googling a worst-case scenario (or any specific scenario, for that matter) can bias your search results—and deliver you plenty of sites that may confirm unfounded fears (which will leave you in a panic) or may even downplay the seriousness of symptoms (causing you to delay seeing a doctor if you need to). “Start simply,” advises Nina Shapiro, MD, author of Hype: A Doctor’s Guide to Medical Myths, Exaggerated Claims, and Bad Advice. This way, your search results will deliver a full range of possibilities, allowing you to filter out results that don’t apply to you and zero in on the ones that might.
Marissa Laliberte Who knew their uniforms were THIS strict? They can’t get creative with their makeup Makeup is part of a flight attendant’s uniform, and that means they need to keep from going too extreme—or not extreme enough. Emirates is all about high-maintenance beauty and requires female flight attendants to wear red lipstick and lip liner during every shift.
United crew, on the other hand, need to “apply makeup conservatively” and stay away from “extreme colors.” Usually, nail polish needs to be unchipped and a classic color like nude, pink, or certain shades of red. 8

The skin or peel of fruits and vegetables are generally higher in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals than the flesh, according to Malina Malkani, MS, RDN, CDN, creator of the Wholitarian Lifestyle.
Unpeeled fruits and vegetables may have up to 33 percent more fiber than those without the peel. And antioxidant levels in the skins of fruits could be up to 328 times higher than those found in the flesh, Malkani says. Still, Alyssa Pike, RD, the manager of nutrition communications for the International Food Information Council Foundation, says the amount of nutrients in each peel differs by the type of fruit or vegetable. And the only skins Hillary Cecere, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian for Eat Clean Bro, doesn’t recommend eating are the ones that are too tough or not tasty to eat.

If you’re in the market for a new home, you’ll want to be strategic with the day of the week you close the deal. It could mean major savings—or major losses. Monday is the best day to close, according to the housing data provider RealtyTrac. People who seal the deal then tend to get prices that are an average 2.3 percent below market value. Thursdays are the worst. Closing then will get you a price just 1 percent below market value. Experts say it’s because sellers are less likely to get amazing offers early in the week, which means they’re more inclined to consider mediocre ones.

FALSE! Germs are the only thing that can make you sick. You can go out in the freezing cold with wet hair, and if there aren’t any germs around, you’ll stay sniffle-free. But there is a correlation: The viruses that cause the common cold thrive in low temperatures.

As ’n persoon bv. ʼn suigstokkie steel, mag jy nie ʼn wapen uitpluk nie. Die hof vra die vraag of ʼn redelike man, in dieselfde situasie, dieselfde as jy sou optree. 21
