"Juffrou, regtig? Kan nie wees nie, regtig"? Die spannetjie voor my sit "gemesmiraais" soos my tannie sou sê"!

Odds are, you do it every day!
Whether you’re on a long road trip or stuck in traffic during a daily commute, a low iPhone battery could spell disaster for the bored driver. At first, it may seem harmless to plug your phone into your car’s USB port. But unless you’re desperate, charging your iPhone during your commute might be a big mistake. (And by the way, charging your iPhone like this could ruin its battery.) Why? For starters, the USB port in your vehicle probably provides less electricity than your phone really needs to charge. As a result, your phone might stall while it charges, or worse—barely charge at all. This common battery-saving iPhone hack actually hurts your charge, too. “Many people may notice that on their commute home from work their phone charged very little (if at all) during their 30 to 60 minute commute,” Brad Nichols, a technician at Staymobile, says. “This is mostly due to the fact the phone is using more power than the car charger is supplying it.” Nichols also says that your phone could receive too much power, especially if you’re using a “Cigarette Lighter” port to charge up. Most cigarette lighters can supply up to 10 amps, while most chargers use one to three amps. A malfunctioning or damaged charger can provide inconsistent power to the device, resulting in sudden spikes or surges that could cause overheating, damage to the internal components, or on the rare occasion, destroy the device. Charging your phone while on the road could drain your car’s battery, too. If you leave your car running on “accessory”—where your engine is off, but you still use the radio—the device will draw power from your car’s battery as it charges. This usually isn’t a big deal for those who own new cars with healthy batteries, Nichols says. But if your car is an older model, you might want to avoid charging your phone through its USB port. Most importantly, it’s not safe to use your phone while operating a vehicle. “Anytime a person’s hands leave the wheel or eyes leave the road, it becomes incredibly dangerous for them and the other people around them,” Nichols says. Bottom line: Play it safe, and wait until you get home to plug in. 4

Some of the most moving lessons are taught by your students.
When Mrs. Klein told her first graders to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful, she thought how little these children, who lived in a deteriorating neighborhood, actually had to be thankful for. She knew that most of the class would draw pictures of turkeys or of bountifully laden Thanksgiving tables. That was what they believed was expected of them. What took Mrs. Klein aback was Douglas’s picture. Douglas was so forlorn and likely to be found close in her shadow as they went outside for recess. Douglas’s drawing was simply this: A hand, obviously, but whose hand? The class was captivated by his image. “I think it must be the hand of God that brings us food,” said one student. “A farmer,” said another, “because they grow the turkeys.” “It looks more like a policeman, and they protect us.” “I think,” said Lavinia, who was always so serious, “that it is supposed to be all the hands that help us, but Douglas could only draw one of them.” Mrs. Klein had almost forgotten Douglas in her pleasure at finding the class so responsive. When she had the others at work on another project, she bent over his desk and asked whose hand it was. Douglas mumbled, “It’s yours, Teacher.” Then Mrs. Klein recalled that she had taken Douglas by the hand from time to time; she often did that with the children. But that it should have meant so much to Douglas. Perhaps, she reflected, this was her Thanksgiving, and everybody’s Thanksgiving—not the material things given unto us, but the small ways that we give something to others.

Optics and imaging company Nikon has just set a picture perfect Guinness World Records title for the Largest human image of a camera. They needed a minimum of 250 people to set the record, but a staggering 1,454 people gathered in front of the Palazzina di caccia of Stupinigi in northern Italy, which provided a stunning backdrop for the attempt. The participants were made up of customers, collaborators and colleagues, photo retailers and photography lovers, each wearing a coloured t-shirt and cap. An official Guinness World Records adjudicator and event stewards were on hand to count the crowd and verify that the formation really looked like a camera - in this case, a recreation of the Nikon Reflex. The event was organised by Nikon’s Italian distributor, Nital S.p.A, to celebrate the camera company's 100 year anniversary. 8

Even if you normally don't like it, your taste buds will thank you mid-flight BY CLAIRE NOWAK What’s the deal with airline food, amiright? Do they give out those tiny bags of nasty peanuts just to make us feel like giants? Don’t worry, this won’t turn into a poor attempt at a Seinfeld parody, but the airplane food joke that so many comedians turn to in moments of desperation does have some truth to it. We all know that the food served on planes is far from—and probably the exact opposite of—culinary excellence, and that there’s also a less-known reason to never eat food on planes. What many don’t know is the science behind why most airline food tastes bad—and why some foods, like tomato juice, actually taste better when served in the air. As Southern Living reported, your senses of taste and smell don’t work as effectively on airplanes because of the low humidity. Once the plane is thousands of feet in the air, the cabin pressure causes those senses to change even more. The dry cabin air messes with our odor receptors, and since things taste differently when our sense of smell is impaired—think about eating when you have a cold—food tastes blander on a plane than it does on the ground. That same principle is what makes tomato juice taste better in the air. Its normally earthy flavor is altered by the altitude and turns sweet and fruity. Plus, tomatoes are known for their savory umami flavor, which doesn’t change with altitude and becomes more pronounced when the fruit’s other flavors are dulled. So while there are certain things you should never, ever do on a plane, drinking tomato juice is enthusiastically encouraged. And that’s no joke.

Daar is ‘n nuwe sisteem by die grensposte ge-implimenteer. Jou vingerafdrukke en foto word elektronies geneem, om 'n data basis op te bou. Dit neem baie tyd in beslag. So, as jy jou reistyd beplan, sit so een of twee ure by. As daar 'n bus voor jou is, sit drie plus ure by. Of vind uit wat is die bus dienste se skedule en sorg dat jy nie net na hom daar aankom nie. Die sisteem is nuut en Immegrasie sukkel ook bietjie.
FIREWORKS PAINTING ACTIVITY MATERIALS: • Toilet paper rolls • Colored finger paints • White cardstock DIRECTIONS: Took the toilet paper roll and cut strips down the side with scissors. Then pressed down to fan them out. They did not really stay out but when the kids got to pressing them to the paper it worked. Then put paint on a paper plate. Give the paper and the cut toilet paper rolls to the kids. They dipped them in the paint and then pressed them down all over the paper. Bright and cheerful just like a night sky filled with fireworks. Fun and easy to make Firework Paintings for kids. 17
