Meet the Judges: Meet our global panel of judges
Tableware International’s Awards of Excellence return for another year and once again, the awards ceremony will be held at Ambiente, which we are very thankful for.
The awards ceremony will take place during Ambiente – (although of course entries don’t have to exhibit at the show to enter) – and this year we introduce a new award: sustainability. The Designer of the Year and Outstanding Contribution Award are also announced on the night.
Last year winners included the likes of Narumi, Orrefors, Vista Alegre, Revol and many more across a host of categories including Fine Dinnerware, Hospitality Dinnerware, Casual Glassware and such.
This year also sees us introduce a new award focusing on sustainability. As more and more tabletop providers prioritise environmental welfare, this Sustainability Award is aimed at products, collections or projects created in a sustainably responsible way, purposefully designed to reduce environmental impact.
“We are thrilled to host these very special awards,” says Tableware International’s publisher Paul Yeomans. “It is our way of paying the utmost respect to the talent, innovation and skill in the tableware sector.”

Midaya Ceramic Company Pvt. Ltd. Hydrolife Water Filter
The Hydrolife Water Filter is an eco-friendly, sustainable product designed to address the urgent need for clean water in Sri Lanka’s dry zone, where natural water sources are contaminated with heavy metals such as fluoride, arsenic, and cadmium. Created through a collaboration between the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) and Midaya Ceramic Company senior designer Thilanka Madhushani, Hydrolife combines scientific findings and handmade ceramic manufacturing technology to bring a marketable, efficient, and beautifully crafted household solution.
Hydrolife’s hourglass shape, wave-patterned lid and textured nude finish in natural tones of orange and brown embody a balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal. It is a blend of earthy sustainable materials with a combination of high-fired stained porcelain and low-fired terracotta bodies.
This gravity-fed system uses a low-fired terracotta cartridge, which meets WHO standards for filtration, purifying water at a rate of 1–2 liters per hour. The cartridge is made using a special clay formulation and a hydraulic press. It is fired at a low temperature which enhances the filtration and brings a subtle, earthy aroma to the water, enhancing the user’s experience. The outer reservoir and lid is manufactured using a drain casting method, hand finished, glazed and fired at a temperature of 1240 Celsius. The high-fired porcelain ensures strength and durability. The 5-liter reservoir, shaped to enhance capacity within a compact form, is glazed internally for easy cleaning and maintenance.
The product’s wooden foldable base provides a practical height for filling a glass. This unique filter merges design elegance, eco-conscious materials and cultural resonance, making it a standout in sustainable water filtration.

development of the Netherlands. The image of full milk churns waiting on the side of the road for collection by the milk factory has become an idyllic picture which is dear to many people. The milk churns have lost their purpose once the large milk factories opened their doors and so you sometimes still find them on an old farm, but no longer carrying milk, but holding a large bouquet of meadow flowers. This inspired us to make milk churn vases out of porcelain, decorated with typical Dutch decorations, such as our local forest birds, Delft blue flowers or dramatic still life paintings from the Dutch Golden Age of master painters.

The new LINDA porcelain vase series, created by Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG, plays with both look and feel. An unusual and timelessly minimalist vase shape—combined with gentle grooves and a satin finish—transforms each vase into a functional design object. LINDA is available in three different sizes in white. The new series is complemented by two versions of the small vase: one with a satin finish and a 24-carat gold-plated neck, and another with a classic glossy glaze.
The design of the LINDA vase series is characterized by a harmonious interplay of surface texture and shape. The basic shape—a square with gently rounded corners—is minimalist yet creates a subtle tension. A fine groove structure extends over the entire surface of the body, reaching up to the neck of the vase. The textured surface creates a fascinating interplay of light and shadow, contrasting with purely decorative elements. The design evokes associations with paper lanterns, abstract waves, or the carefully raked gravel surfaces of a Zen garden, while remaining open to individual interpretation.

Ball proudly utilizes sustainable and recycled materials in the crafting of her handmade metal products in her busy foundry located on the outskirts of Mexico City. At the end of the year, all funds from the selling of leftover materials for recycling are redistributed to employees. The company stresses that aluminum is a boon for the environment because there is no limit to how many times it can be recycled. Why create new raw materials when existing raw materials can often be easily recycled?
The same goes for glass. To put it in numbers: recycling 1 kilo of glass saves 6 litres of water, 1.2 kilos of natural resources and 20% of energy. The latter is because melting glass requires a lower temperature than making new glass. In addition, it guarantees the reuse of glass and, as a result, a smaller mountain of waste.
Vidrios San Miguel makes 100% post-consumer recycled glassware, GRS certified, combining modern and traditional glass collection techniques to melt and process it into new glass products. In this way,
the company produces no less than 25,000 different products, from clear glasses and decanters to decorative elements in various colors. CHEF DIOGO ROCHA
Symbolically entitled Serra, this irregular and organic piece takes us back to the mountainous backdrop of the region he lives in. The texture of the exterior and interior pays a homage to the pine trees of this region landscape. Born in Urgeiriça, Canas de Senhorim, Diogo Rocha is one of Portugal’s most renowned young chefs, and the author of three successful cookbooks, where he emphasizes his passion for Portuguese products. Holding a Michelin star, Diogo has followed an exemplary path, guided by rigor and creativity, never losing sight of his roots, as can be witnessed by his specialization in Serra da Estrela products. With an undergraduate degree in Food Production and Catering and after having worked in leading restaurants such as Terreiro do Paço, Villa Joya e Valle Flor, in 2008 he undertook the executive management of the Dão Sul/Global Wines group. In 2009, he became a professor at the Escola Superior de Turismo de Seia and in 2014 he opened the well-known Mesa de Lemos restaurant. In 2015, he was awarded the Prémio Revelação do Ano [Revelation of the Year Award] in the “Boa Mesa” category, by the Boa Cama Boa Mesa guide. This was the first of many prestigious awards, which also include: “Garfo de Ouro” (from 2016 to 2023); “Restaurante do Ano” for the Mesa de Lemos restaurant (Revista de Vinhos, 2017); between 2019 and 2023 the Michelin Star for the Mesa de Lemos restaurant; “Chef de Cozinha do Ano de 2019” (by Revista de Vinhos/Essência do Vinho); in 2022 he was awarded the “David Lopes Ramos” gastronomy award (by Grandes Escolhas magazine); in 2022 the first Michelin Guide’s Green star, which rewards the best restaurant practice in sustainability. A long-time admirer of Vista Alegre, which is well represented at Mesa de Lemos restaurant, Diogo Rocha was invited by the brand to create a dish, as part of the innovative Chef’s Collection line. Symbolically entitled Serra, this irregular and organic piece takes us back to the mountainous backdrop of the region he lives in.
