Le nĂŠgatif is the only FREE film photography magazine in the world.
and will allways remain free. we dont place ads or banners in order to keep le negatif a clean and indipendent magazine.
we strongly belive that there is not one reason why art should not be free. if the final intent of art is to make money then we can call that buissnes. art is free from any purpose rather then showing the beauty and the decay of our society. trying to make art has allways been difficult, today even more. the artist should be free from the time consuming aspects of every day life in order to focus on his only duty. we are not just some people with utopian mindsets, we work in order to finance our art (le negatif) with the only purpose to expose the beautiful work of the photographers we publish each month and to inspire the people that read this magazine. we try our best to make this a better magazine each month. we hope you enjoy all the hard work that goes to each issue. please read the magazine till the last page

Waste of Education Detroit Left behind Desks Chairs Stationeries Books and more Books All abandoned by society and the city leaders.
Walking through the abandoned schools of Detroit makes me sick. You see things left behind in abandoned schools and shortages of these exact items in the next overcrowded school. Most heartbreaking is the fact of dozens, hundreds and thousands books left behind. Sometimes still in its original wrapping sitting on palettes in abandoned storage facilities. Books are everywhere, piles and piles of books. Sometimes there are so many books that you have to walk on them. The news says that Detroit public schools have no money, no funds left anymore. The children have to share their textbooks with other students and bring their own toilet paper to class due to enormous budget deficits. Looking around in Detroit’s abandoned schools, I feel the real tragedy of the city, not some sentimental tragedy of brick and plaster, but the one of children and their future.

2nd place Julien Ratel
Julien Ratel The medical center of Saint Hilaire du Touvet was built in 1916 and live a long live as a reputed hospital for tuberculosis sufferers. Due to our new economical pressure in all domains of life, this wonderful medical institution was abandoned in 2009 for an other reason: severe avalanche risks. Just a joke: a large village stay just under the medical center and none of the villagers have been deported... Because of money and the place that’s take in our life, this building was closed and patients have lost a mountain natural frame of recovery for a hospital in city and pollution... Today after wreckage and looting, it stays a sad atmosphere in the medical center, all the passed lives are always here in each object and corridors.

Artur Roszczyn Main thing that worries me is t the fact that big part of the people around the world can’t see the things without their television, can’t decide on their own, they stick to the mass/pop culture. Decisions are made for them and they have no voice, no individuality, like chickens in a factory. Born to eat, grow and die.

has always been the instrument that most powerfully stirs me on the inside. As a photographer, I’ve always aspired to make photographs that could move me in me the way that music has moved me. I realize that music and pictures behave differently and burn with different kinds of flames, but I still hold on to that inspiration.
ow were you introduce to photography?
hen I was in high school (around 16 years old) one of my good friends took pictures for the school newspaper and yearbook. Just hanging around with him was my first introduction to someone with a ‘real’ camera. He had a darkroom in his house and I’d see him develop pictures on occasion as well, which I found very interesting. During these years I played the french horn in the school band - I loved the instrument and saved enough money to buy a horn of my own by my last year of school. It was at about this time that I realized that although I loved the french horn, I really could not play it very well... certainly not well enough to continue

hat is your favorite equipment?
I give it a try. It turned out to be a wonderful place for me. It was here that the history of photography and its processes were opened up to me and I fell ‘head over heals’. I’d found something that I loved.
have a Rolleiflex twin lens camera that is a favorite. For 35mm, I have a Leica M6 which I most often use with a 35mm lens and I have a Nikon FM3a which I most often use with a 50mm lens.

he majority of your works are in black and white, why this choice?
erhaps some of this is due to the fact that the photographs that most inspired me early on were black and white. Another major part in my leaning towards black and white work is the fact that I have so much more intersection with those photographs from the time of the clicking of the shutter to the time there is a print in my hand. By this I mean I am encountering and considering the pictures from the time I develop the film to the time I make the contact sheets. After this comes a period of concentrated study of the pictures on the contact sheets and then a commitment of time and energy to those particular frames that seem most hopeful which I will print - or, if for assignment, scan. I do love color photography and shoot color but I’ve always felt a bit removed from the end results compared to the black and white work.
on after high school, so with the money I’d saved to buy a horn I bought a camera instead. It was a Pentax Spotmatic 35mm SLR, similar to my friends camera. After high school I did not have any particular plans for further schooling, but an unexpected opportunity to attend a university near my home town came up and I found myself at Northern Kentucky University. Upon entering I ou have photographed a lot of musicians,is was asked what I was interested in studying it related to a passion for music or is it just a and I had to confess that I was not sure. The counselor had the insight to ask me about my coincidence? hobbies or interests and I told him that I’d rehis is not coincidence. I do indeed have cently bought a camera and had some intera passion for music and music has in fact est there. It turned out that the university offered a degree in photography and suggested been a major inspiration for my pictures. Music

The means of acquiring photographs is now in virtually within reach of everyone.
