SHORT-TERM TRAINING & DEGREE SEEKING

Psychiatric Technician Level 1

Length of class: 22 weeks This course is designed to prepare individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, therapeutic patient care to individuals who have mental health/behavioral needs in an effective and ethical manner. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to take the Level 1 American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) certification exam. Certified

graduates may apply for entry level positions for psychiatric aides, mental healthcare technicians and healthcare techs/nurse aides whose primary patient population has special mental health/ behavioral needs. Associate in Arts, Teacher Preparation

60-61 credits

Associate in Science, Teacher Preparation

60-61 credits The College will offer the Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation Degree and the Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation Degree (pending approval) and all associated certificates, including a Career and College Promise certificate for high school students who may be pursuing a degree in teaching. Both programs

prepare students for transfer to a four-year university to continue preparations to become a licensed teacher.

Currently, the Early Childhood program prepares individuals to work with children from birth through eight in diverse learning environments. The Associate in Arts and the Associate in Science degrees are considered current teacher preparation programs and intended to prepare students with competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use needed to transfer to a four-year university for teacher preparation and licensure.

Public Safety Administration

64-65 credits The Public Safety Administration curriculum is designed to provide students, as well as practitioners, with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and administrative areas necessary for entrance or advancement within various public safety and government organizations. Employment

opportunities exist with fire or police departments, emergency management organizations, governmental agencies, industrial firms, correctional facilities, private industries, insurance organizations, educational organizations, security and protective organizations, and through selfemployment opportunities.
