PRAY AND NOT GIVE UP

Every morning at 5am, our youth from Community Outreach Service Youth (COSY) Hostel in Cambodia wake up from their sleep and gather for their daily prayer meeting. In the meeting, they pray for their parents, friends and classmates. They pray for God’s protection, good health and healing. They also pray for their country and for our Missionaries. Every Wednesday evening at 5.30pm, a group of church members from Wesley Bardan Methodist Church in Nepal gathers for a weekly prayer meeting. Before they divide into small groups to pray, there is a lively worship and exhortation from the pastor. Rev Saba said that this weekly prayer meeting has been ongoing without fail since 2002. Every Friday evening after dinner, about 30 people meet inside Shineforth Methodist Church in Thailand to pray. After a short worship and devotion, Rev Art provides the prayer pointers. Throughout the whole prayer session, the congregation stands to pray until dismissal. This same group gathers again on Sundays at 9am for another round of prayer. Jesus once instructed His disciples that “they should always pray and not give up.” (Luke 18:1, NIV) So, let us persevere in prayer. As you thumb through the pages of this PrayerConnect, let us unite with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ across the region in praying for our Missionaries, National Workers and their ministries. Rev Philip Lim Executive Director Methodist Missions Society

Testimony

hope for my future My name is Wanchana Laomee. I came from a poor Shan Buddhist family. My parents are farmers. After I completed Primary 6 in a school near home, I was not sure where I should go for my secondary education. There was no secondary school in my village and my parents could not afford to put me in a dormitory in town so that I can go to school.

I thank God that He allowed me to come to Mettakij Hostel in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2011. I am thankful that I could continue my study. I am also thankful that I got to know about God. I did not know Him before this but now I have accepted Jesus. I am glad that I am saved from my sin. I believe that it was God’s will for me to stay in Mettakij Hostel so that a sinner like me can be saved and also continue to study. Staying at this hostel has helped me to be a more mature person. I learnt how to love others and not to be selfish. I also learnt the meaning of sacrificing for others. I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting Mettakij Hostel. This hostel has been a great help to make life better for me now. I was given hope for my future because I have the opportunity to continue my study and to know Jesus as my Saviour and Lord. My goal is to become a teacher. Please continue to pray for Mettakij Hostel and other MMS ministries that are helping the poor and giving them an opportunity to know God personally.
