WHY LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY?
At LETU, you can: •
Earn your commercial, multi-engine pilot certificate with an instrument rating. We also offer flight instructor certificates and ratings up through multi-engine instrument instruction.

Be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a professional airframe and powerplant technician.

Troubleshoot electrical problems, learn to remove and reinstall jet engines, run a variety of aircraft engines and even perform a “hot section” inspection on a turbine engine.

Have approximately 190-200 hours of flight time when you graduate from the flight program. Of that, 35 hours are spent flying our multi-engine airplanes.

OUR FACILITIES LETU’s School of Aeronautical Science is located at the East Texas Regional Airport, in the Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center, a 55,500 sq. ft. facility filled with state-of-the-art classrooms, labs and a 10,000 sq. ft. hangar. Our labs include: • Flight sims, including dedicated DA-42 and C172 trainers, plus 12 (4 at airport facility, 8 at main campus) computers with special flight sim hard/software. • Air Traffic Control labs with radar simulators and a control tower simulator. • Workshops for you to disassemble, inspect and re-assemble engines. • Engine run-up facilities for turbine and reciprocating engines for you to see how well your engine works. • Structures labs for riveting, working with carbon-fiber and painting. • Electrical labs for wiring, troubleshooting. • Maintenance airframes to practice skills: King Air, Baron, CF-6 engine, Sabreliner, Piper Arrow and A-Star helicopter.

Cessna 172 “Skyhawks” (single-engine, pictured below) When it comes to basic trainers, it’s hard to beat the Skyhawk. Learn to master the sky in this stable and reliable aircraft. Features: Garmin G-1000 glass cockpit, single-engine aircraft

American Champion “Citabrias” (tail wheel, single-engine) It’s good to know your basics. That’s why we still require all flight students to master a tail wheel airplane early in their careers. Features: tail wheel aircraft, fabric covered, aerobatic, very basic flight instruments

Diamond DA-42 Twin Stars (multi-engine) You’ll fly this techy aircraft for your multi-engine flight training. Features: modern composite airframe, twin engines, outstanding performance, satellite weather datalink, autopilot and Garmin G1000 glass flight deck

Piper PA32R-300 “Lance” (high-performance single-engine) This one’s a heavy hauler. It’s typically used for mission training and is considered a complex, highperformance aircraft. Very similar to the Saratoga II HP. Features: heavy, single-engine, 300 horsepower engine
