Rottnest Island

If traversing by bike doesn't appeal, you can also enjoy the journey by air-conditioned coach on the Island Explorer. This hop-on/hop-off service runs daily and with 18 stops on the agenda, takes you to many of the secluded bays and secret hideaways located around the island. Day passes for this service can be purchased from the Rottnest Island Visitors Centre.

You can't go wrong choosing any one of the 20 beautiful bays on the Island, but with an additional 63 secluded beaches. The warm Leeuwin Current that runs through Rottnest means you'll find green turtles and 135 species of tropical fish, from migratory tuna and marlin, to multi coloured moon wrasse. Fishhook Bay is uncrowded because accessing it requires rock scrambling or a boat, but it's renowned as one of the best snorkelling spots on Rottnest. Near the main settlement, The Basin is 10 minutes away and has protected shallow reefs and gentle swell, making it a perfect beginners snorkelling location. Photo Courtesy of Tourism WA

On Rottnest Island, bikes are the transportation of choice and can be hired or you can bring your own for a small fee. The island is only 11km long and 4.5km wide making it easy to explore with a number of great trails to follow. Not surprisingly, water activities play a major role in island life - from snorkelling and diving to fishing, surfing, boating, kayaking, sailing and swimming!

Just an 18 minute cycle from the main settlement to Little Salmon Bay, is a prime spot to see one of 35,000 migrating humpback whales between September and December, as well as bottlenose dolphins all year round. 25-minutes west is Cathedral Rocks, populated by New Zealand fur seals whose presence are beautiful to watch from the shore.

Xavi Torres

Number: 12 Position: Forward/Centre Height: 208cm Weight: 110kg Birthday October 26, 1989 POB: Sydney, AUS

Number: 8 Position: Midfielder Height: 184 cm Weight: 82 kg Birthday: November 21 1986 POB: XĂ bia, Spain

Best Wildcats memory? Winning the 2016/17 NBL championship.

A new recruit for the 2017/18 season, Torres came through the junior ranks at Villareal and after a total of 12 years with the club, completed a move to Alicante where he made his senior debut in 2006. His impressive performances for the Segunda Division B side duly brought the young midfielder to the attention of Barcelona and he was to spend the next two years at the Camp Nou. During his spell with the Catalan giants, Torres featured regularly for the reserve team, where he worked under Pep Guardiola and also made two appearances for the senior side in 2009.

What are your greatest achievements? Winning an NBL championship and winning the Asia Cup as an Australian Boomer. What age did you start in your sport and why? Age 10 because all my mates played and I enjoyed the pace and constant action. If you could pass on any words of wisdom to the next-gen of players, what would it be? Talent alone is never enough, hard work, persistence and consistency are the recipe for success.
