1. TREE HOUSE Location: Category: Adviser: Year:

Colonia San Isidro Castillotla, Puebla, Mexico. House Jose Luis Sanuy Lostes Architect 2016

Description The project aims to highlight the site’s most important element: nature. It seeks to create a relationship between the built (inert) space and the void (nature); opposite but also complementary spaces at the same time. In this way the void (core and compositional element) creates a connection between the project and its context; allowing the outside to sneak into the inner space.

2. CORREDOR CHAMAHUA Location: Barrio de Xonaca, Puebla, Mexico. Category: Urban intervention Adviser: Blanca Vila Cortell Architect Team members: Sandra Rosano Barragán, Sergio Colchado Buendía and Crystian Miguel Tobón. Year: 2016

Description “Barrio de Xonaca” is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Puebla City. Nowadays violence is one of the main problems faced by this neighborhood; and the lack of recreational public spaces increases this problem. As a result, the following objectives were established: - To recover an unused public space - To create a public space for socialization and play - The community engagement in decision-making and design processes - Appropriation of space by the people

3. PARQUE BIBLIOTECA MATILTI Location: Historic Districts area, Puebla, Mexico. Category: Cultural Center Advisers: Arq. Eduardo Audirac Flores / Arq. Rodrigo Jaspeado García / Arq. Víctor Suárez Team members: Sandra Rosano Barragán Year: 2019

Description The project “Parque Biblioteca Matilti” located in Puebla’s historic districts area is a cultural center proposal that seeks to recover an unused space within the housing development of the area. The word “Matilti” (community) represents the project’s leading concept and main purpose: to improve social inclusion, interaction and cohesion. Intentions: - To recover an unused public space - To create a public space for education, culture and arts - Appropriation of space by the people Design The building – located in the highest side of the given area in order to obtain the best views (volcanoes and downtown city) – is composed of 3 main volumes and 2 connecting elements that adapt to the topography. The cultural center offers different educational, recreational and cultural spaces for all ages; improving social inclusion and interaction.

Design process

1.

The proposal of 2 volumes meets the objective of dividing the architectural programme into two (library and cultural activities); while the shape and distribution meet the objectives of generating one main courtyard and views towards the volcanoes.

18

2.

The volumes’ distribution creates multiple routes that invite people to go through the space between the buildings.

3.

A compact volume located in the highest side of the area was proposed: three interconnected main volumes. Its fan-shaped distribution creates views towards the volcanoes and downtown city. A proposal of storeys at different levels allows the building to adapt to the topography of the site.

4. IBERO SPORTS CENTRE Location: Category: Advisers: Team: Year:

Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA), Puebla, México. Sports centre Arq. Eduardo Audirac Flores / Arq. Rodrigo Jaspeado García / Arq. Víctor Suárez Cristian Uriel Sánchez Martínez, Luis Enrique González López, Luisa Fernanda Jiménez Ríos. 2019

Description IBERO Sports Centre is a sports leisure centre proposal for the university community.

The guiding design principle was permeability, seeking to keep the spaces connected (physical or visually) to one another; enabling people to engage in different activities.

The site proposal seeks to concentrate the existing sports equipment – sports fields and gym – and the new sports centre in the same area. The site has a total surface of 5,424 square meters, while the Sports Centre building has a total surface of 3,036 square meters.

Green areas and the interaction with nature are two elements that give identity to the university. Therefore, these elements were also used as key elements in the project.

As a result of the analysis of the existing areas and the university community’s opinion, a mixed-use project was proposed: sports, leisure and administration.

With regard to the building’s roof, the design allows the inside to be lit from above with natural light. A lightweight roof and structure was proposed in order to obtain the desired movement.

The sports facilities include a swimming pool, 4 multi-purpose rooms, one squash court and a physiotherapy area. The recreational facilities such as the cafeteria, terraces and playroom promote extracurricular activities that enhance integration and social interaction. With regard to the design, a connecting main axis between the sports fields and the gym was created; dividing the architectural program into two volumes with a central courtyard. The half-buried building seeks to create a gentle relationship with the existing urban landscape; offering a completely different perception of the space from the inside and the outside.

1. Location and site

IBERO Sports Centre is located in UIA University in Puebla. The site proposal seeks to concentrate the existing sports equipment –sports fields and gym – and the new sports centre in the same area. The site has a total surface of 5,424 square meters and an important relation with the surroundings.

24

2. Design process

1. The orientation of the building was defined according to the appropriate conditions of sunshine and light for the swimming pool. Taking into account the orientation, and seeking to create a connecting axis between the existing sports fields and gymnasium, the main compositional axes were established. 2. The polygon was divided generating 3 outer spaces and a central element of greater importance. 3. Three volumes were created according to the different programmatic uses: 1) sports, 2) leisure and 3) administration. A curved roof for the swimming pool building was proposed seeking a subtle transition between the street and the building. 4. The roof became the element of cohesion and integration of the complex. The programme was reorganized obtaining two volumes connected by a central courtyard. 5. A new roof design was proposed maximizing natural lighting. Finally, seeking to create a gentle relationship between the building and the existing urban landscape the complex became partially buried.
