Female Sale

December 4, 2014 @ 1:00 pm Spruce Grove, Ab

Welcome

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to our 2014 Leading Ladies Event. A sale that we felt was a necessity in response to the Canadian seed stock and feeder market. We are all excited for the times ahead and proud of fellow seed stock and commercial breeders for their patience and sacrifice for better times. Selling this magnitude of females all out of the same age bracket was no easy feat. We feel that the deck is completely stacked and no good ones were held back in this offering. We hope that these bred heifers can accommodate our fellow seed stock producers and obviously show results in a shorter period of time. Selfishly, we’ve seen it more fitting to holdback our open cattle to allow us the same quality opportunity in a year’s time.

The embryos and flush are a direct correlation to the highest and most sought after lots in this sale. Coming from the angus division we offer less numbers but sustain the highest regard for quality. Leonard Mark cherry picked the very best from his full blood bred replacement pen. Lenny’s cattle have garnered a high sought after interest in a short period of time. His ability to use some of the most dominant bulls in the industry from an elite cow herd result in his unmatched offering. We are proud of these bred heifers and spared no expense or effort in setting this sale in motion. The blood work and homozygous polled testing we feel is a necessity for every female selling. Keep in mind this is a bred heifer sale, all of these females were bred with calving ease in mind, no different than if they were staying in our herd. Service sires and data on them are available throughout the catalogue. Like our bull sale, we guarantee these females 100% and stand behind them.

Like our last female sale 3 years ago, the heifers are all catalogued in cow families, so quality is not spared the deeper you flip into the catalogue. Some of these cow families stem back to the birth of our cattle operation. This shows that it is never better to replace something, but evolve and grow it. The red and black Simmental based females in this line up are an elite and solid group with exclusive mating that you won’t find anywhere else.

If there are any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call. We are excited to host this event and look forward to seeing new and old faces. Sincerely, The Lewis Farms Crew

Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

BREEDING

The sale heifers were ultra sounded in June and the breeding date given on each heifer is the one our vet felt was the correct date from the ultra sound. We started AI’ing on the 22nd of March and pulled bulls on May 12th. If your heifer looks like she isn’t going to calve to the date indicated please don’t hesitate to contact us to see if we possibly have another breeding date on her. The heifers will be preg checked again beginning of November to insure they are all still in calf.

If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, then said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of a replacement animal, Lewis Farms will appoint a mediator. Accidents - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comforts of buyers, neither Lewis Farms, the auctioneer, or association assumes any responsibility in this matter, and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accidents or loss of property.

U.S. money will be accepted at the current rate of exchange on sale day and will be posted prior to the sale.

EXPORT

In the case of females selling to the United States, we incourage buyers to leave their animals with us to calve out. This Amber family continues to grow and write stories for our program. These daughters are the definite core of our red Simmental division. This offering leads off with 4 bred heifers from the Amber family. Females we feel have the propelling ability to advance your red program. We have only sold 8 Amber daughters and a flush over a 15 year period, so this gives you a unique opportunity to buy exclusive genetics that are not readily available. This past summer we lost the old matron 27H. We thank her for the influencial daughters and sons she left us.

This Flush between 205T and Suspect was definitely a success in terms of numbers and quality of Ambers that we haven’t seen before. The mating gave us 6 daughters and we decided to keep four and offer two of the best in this event. First ever 205T daughter for sale. Without a doubt a female that carries so much of her mother’s style, bone work, and body dimension. A female that is aiming to drop a perfect udder and her pedigree can back that statement. 6A wont be the heaviest heifer in the offering nor the most over powering, but she will rival any red female in the industry for overall completeness, foot structure and endless pedigree of elite Amber females. Safe to Reload and homo polled.

Take your pick here, family and staff are split down the middle to who they prefer. 27A is safe to the Commander bull, an intriguing young red blaze bull that incorporates power and calving ease.

Another cornerstone Amber daughter on offer. Arguably a female that portrays more of a brood cow look and rugged power, while still maintaining a neat, youthful udder. This female’s mother has shown explosive production in a very short term. Her very first bull calf sold to Boundary Ranch for $20,000. Lot 4 is her second calf and her third calf is shaping up to be a clear cut standout, Springsteen son in the 2015 bull sale offering. The guess work is done here, homo polled and safe to Commander.

Charo Cow Family

It never gets old explaining the importance of an elite cow family and the influence they have on a program. As observed over the years, these good ones go on to produce more good one’s. 604G is that elite cow we’ve evolved our black program around. Her daughters don’t become donors only because they are a Charo, they produce top quality cattle at a young age, and leave us no choice but to harvest more eggs. LFE Tango 644Z is out of the famous Ready To Tango female who made a splash when Levi Jackson used her as a December born calf to become Res.Yearling female at Agribition. She then went on to be the high seller at Checkers a few weeks later. Here at LFE she has mothered some front of the line females out of 680S, Ace and Hot Topic. Her herd bull producing ability has been at the top of the pack as well. 2 out of 3 Tanker sons made the line up for Camrose Bull Congress then she produced Beer Money sired by Advance, who was the 2013 High Seller to Rocking Heart Ranch. We were able to use Beer Money in our spring breeding program and we are pumped up about his first set of calves on the ground. Needless to say we are very high on 609S. On the top side 644Z brings in Broker who is a Triple Crown winner on the USA show circuit and has proven he isn’t just a show bull. He has sired high selling females around the country and our 2nd high seller in the 2013 bull sale. 644Z is soft made, flawless in her structure, she moves freely and is just right from every angle. She is bred early to Knight, blazed face or solid black, heifer or bull this calf will be a great one!

602Z is one of our front runners out of Throttle. The combination of the powerful Throttle and the graceful House daughter 159S could not have been a better match. This heifer does it all for us and she truly is as great as her picture. The way her feminine frontend seamlessly ties into her shoulder then flows into a big, deep rib, she ties it all together with ample muscle expression. She is flawless in her structure and is a joy to watch on the move. The Dreamladys are known for their more than ideal udder types and abilities to produce not only females but a few pretty great bulls as well. Her grandmother is a sister to Advance and his young daughters sure have been rising the bar. She is mated to the high selling LFE Poker Face aka Face bull who was bought by The Chittack Family in the 2013 sale. His maternal sister sells as Lot 45 and his first babies on the ground this year have exceeded our expectations, especially one blaze faced bull calf but the talk on him can wait till bull sale time. We could probably go on forever on this female but we’ll end the talking here and let the heifer do the rest.

Bulletproof on paper and in flesh. A no miss bred that stands among the best ones in this offering. These 628R daughters definitely have that matron cow look and contain a notch extra style from Tangle Ridge. 628R only has one other red daughter in our program, so this is a rare opportunity to add predominately black blood lines into your red program. Don’t let the picture fool you on her hair coat. She’s definitely has a slight wave but nothing to be concerned about.

Super interesting twist coming here. Usually we are pretty strict on keeping our homo black bulls on homo black cows but we knew what great things would come out of the mating to Throttle and the red Rock daughter 61R. 61R is hands down probably our best Rock daughter and is still an easy find out in the cow pen with her great udder that has changed since her first calf and she may have some of the hairiest ears ever! She is responsible for producing Bellagio, who was out of the first Advance calf crop and really got the Advance train rolling. 625Z has been a standout from birth and has developed into a great young female. She is huge middled, complete in her structure and big boned. She has wicked hair and the udder she should come into will be one to show off. She is mated to the Homo black Bounty, who we expect great things from.

I’m not sure where to even start with these two. The mating of Throttle and Heaven Sent was one that we knew would be super impressive. Then the heifers arrived and as they got older they have surpassed everything we ever thought they would be. 89A is the powerhouse of the 2. She is the tankiest of the whole offering and ties it into a refined fronted package with ample muscle expression. She moves without a miss in her stride and truly is special. She is bred to Knight and we calved some Throttles to Knight in the summer program and they calved great and the calves are go getters.

LFE Heaven Sent 30X 130A usually gets left behind in the shadow of her big sister but she won’t be there for much longer. She is extremely feminine fronted for the amount of mass she carries. Her structure can’t be flawed and she has wicked, jet black, poker straight hair. 130A would beat 89A in a fancy contest. Both heifers will have great udders and honestly the only reason we haven’t got a mature picture of their dam is because she has just had heifer calves. We just picture cows with bull calves each year as the heifer pairs head west to Sangudo. Both heifers are on our standout lists.

We have calved out a handful of Stubby daughters to Commander and the calves are super correct and were born easy.

BISS 235T Sister To Dam

Big time sale feature here. Lead off Springsteen daughter, bred bounty. Her as well as lot 35 were Diluter gene tested being bred homo black. Lot 55 is diluter free and will be having a black calf this winter. Cool fronted, cool headed, while still offering the same body mass and dimension as the rest of her Springsteen sisters. This is a female to get excited about.

Shear power here. I would say this is the most performance oriented female on offer. A contribution from Lenny Mark’s red program. Stout made, heavy boned, completely power driven. Look for her to wean off the heaviest, soggiest type bulls. A female with exceptional udder development and that attractive baldy look. Bred to Cobra on the early side. Should be a real neat mating for this Stubby bred.

A definite sale feature here. Where to start with this sweet heart? This was a very hard decision to let this female sell. Here’s a bred heifer we felt can offer a little twist in pedigree and type. A heifer with more of a show type look. A female that expresses more neck extension and body stretch. Big Sky was an outcross sire we used two years ago, a bull we feel really emphasized calving ease traits while incorporating some performance oriented actual weights and EPD values.

41

LFE 138T

The black angus section only contains 12 heifers but they are 12 of the most complete angus we have every raised. We start the group with the farm favourite. I really think this heifer’s belly with be touching the ground by sale time as she is so deep ribbed and massive middled. She still starts with a wicked front and is powerful in her muscle volume and shape. She comes from a direct Schaff bred cow who is ideal in her type and kind. Legacy is our maternal master and we love calving out his daughters with the perfect uddered and great mothering ability. 50A is bred early to the Active Duty bull and we may have purchased the last semen in Canada from him this summer so get a mating to him while you can!

A 3/4 sister by blood to Lot 84 and comes back to another great angus program, LLB. She is a powerhouse and the kind designed to raise bulls. If you know anything about our angus program you know we are very found of the SAV program and 97A is a perfect example of why. She’s out of just a 2 yr old Final Answer grand daughter bought out of the strong Remington Dispersal and Bismark. Born with just a 55 lbs Birth weight she hasn’t held back since and has a 205 day weight of 700 lbs. She is feminine fronted, clean in her lines and would actually be a touch bigger then the smaller framed Bismark type. She is bred early to Active Duty for an exciting out cross to the SAV program.
