TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS The Tenant Bill of Rights works to improve the lives of military families by ensuring that each family has a voice. It creates a system of checks and balances that mandates how military tenants can be treated. It also ensures that military tenants receive quality housing and fair treatment from Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) partner companies. All residents of privatized military housing are afforded protections under their tenant lease and federal, state, and local residential landlord and tenant law. The Tenant Bill of Rights affects all military families living in privatized housing areas, so it’s important that you know what’s covered in the bill. These are your rights, and you are allowed to speak up about them. For more information on the Tenant Bill of Rights, please visit the Department of Defense Tenant Bill of Rights resource page and the Resident Responsibility page. This information can also be found in the Living with Liberty Guide PAGE 2

Jessica (District Manager) and Joe (Maintenance Supervisor) received an award from the LTC and CSM of 2nd "Grizzly" Battalion, 358th Armor Regiment, for the exceptional support they provided to a new resident.

LMH SNOW & ICE REMOVAL PLAN In the event of storms, where ice or snow accumulations are imminent, Liberty staff will be on standby to respond if in fact the weather does affect the roads on JBLM. While in standby mode, we will monitor local news as well as the Joint Base Hotlines. Staff will additionally respond to reports directly provided from JBLM Military Police. We will have a phased plan that will address the conditions focused on the most critical areas with hills and major intersections. We will have equipment in the form of two sanding/plow trucks and personnel available to maintain continual usage as needed. In order to focus our attention on the most critical areas, LMH will not be plowing and/or sanding any side streets. While it is the resident’s responsibility to perform snow/ice removal at their individual homes, we will do our best to provide for the safe passage of our residents in and out of the JBLM neighborhoods. We will respond to resident concerns as resources allow. We will also support the overall response of the installation by helping in areas we are traveling through when possible.

McChord Field - Phase 1 - Truck 1 Lewis East, Disco, North - Phase 2 - Truck 1

Lewis West - Phase 1 - Truck 2 Lewis Main - Phase 2 - Truck 2

If consistent snow accumulations continue, we will repeat the same phased approach until the snowfall has diminished. -Stay warm!

Cold Weather Preparedness Winter is here and the weather service will predict low temperatures during this winter season. To help prevent frozen pipes and the potential flooding of your home, we ask that you please take the following steps whenever the temperatures are forecasted to dip to an unusually low level: Open all water faucets in your home to allow a very thin trickle of water to flow through the water lines. Allow the trickle of water to continue to flow throughout the night. (If you are leaving town, please do not leave the water on.) If leaving town for more than 48 hours, please notify your district office so they may periodically check for frozen pipes. Leave all cabinets doors underneath sinks open so the pipes will be ventilated with the warm air in your home. Notify your district office if you turn on a faucet and no water comes out. This may be an indication of frozen pipes. Leave the heat turned to "Auto" and thermostat set to no less than 60 degrees, especially if you will be gone for more than 24 hrs. Your cooperation is appreciated. In the event of a pipe break or leak, please immediately call our 24hr Liberty At Your Service line 1-888-578-4141. Stay warm!

A Word From Our West Army Partners Green for the Holidays By Kiley Westergaard, DPW Environmental Division During the holiday season, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of it all and forget about the environmental impact. This season, start a new tradition of “greening your holiday.” Getting in the Green Spirit Start getting in the green spirit by decorating with items you already own. Light candles and put a cozy background on the TV (just make sure to turn it off when not enjoying it to preserve energy). Also, use LED holiday lights, which reduce energy consumption and save money. During these chilly months, try turning down the thermostat to save energy and curl up with a blanket instead. To find holiday decorations, visit local thrift shops. JBLM has two thrift shops: the Fort Lewis Thrift Shop and the McChord Thrift Shop. Also, collect fallen cones, acorns, or twigs to design an eco-friendly wreath or garland. Dried citrus and rosemary are great eco-friendly decor additions as well. Giving Green Give green this year by planning gifts early. When shopping online, purchasing gifts early avoids rushed shipping, which has a greater carbon footprint. Alternatively, try cleaning out your home and gift new or lightly used items instead of purchasing new ones.

When wrapping gifts, keep in mind that most wrapping paper is not recyclable. Look for recyclable wrapping paper or reuse household items for wrapping paper. Newspapers, magazines, scarves, bandanas, and reusable bags all look great and add uniqueness to any gift. If the gift requires a box when wrapping, reuse tissue boxes, cereal boxes, or snack boxes. Gifts don’t have to be physical either. Gift an experience such as a trip to the movies, sports lessons, or a membership. Spend time with loved ones, play games, or go for walks. If possible, donate the gift of time to local charities. Eating Green Eat green by supporting local businesses when planning holiday feasts. Check farmers markets for local in-season produce. The busy holiday season can sometimes be overwhelming, but take time to slow down, make environmentally healthy choices, and start new green holiday traditions.
