Spring Cleaning without Chemicals As the weather begins to warm, your thoughts might be turning to spring cleaning. If you want a clean home without harsh chemicals, check out these simple ideas. In the kitchen, rub lemon juice on the kitchen sink faucet taps and let the liquid sit overnight. Then, wipe with a damp cloth to remove any built-up limescale. Clean your dishwasher with vinegar! Place a small dishwasher-safe bowl filled with distilled white vinegar in the bottom rack of your dishwasher, and then run an empty cycle.

Have you spotted the Little Free Library in your community yet? Little Free Libraries LMH is excited to bring the Little Free Library program to our residents. It’s not only the world’s largest books-sharing movement in the country and aims to remove barriers to book access. Book access matters. Studies show that reading can help children understand what they see, hear, and read.

In the bathroom, Combine 1 tablespoon of liquid Castille soap (like Dr. Bronners) and ⅓ cup of baking soda. Use the mixture to clean sinks, tubs, and ceramic tile. Try using a few drops of lemon oil twice a month to wipe down shower doors to cut down on soap buildup. When it’s time to wash the windows, mix one-part hot water with one part distilled white vinegar. Dampen the window using the solution and then wipe clean. Freshen your mattresses by sprinkling a bit of baking soda! Leave it for an hour and then vacuum it up. This will refresh your bed and eliminate any buildup that might be present. Keep every room of your home clean with a simple allpurpose cleaner. Most things you own can be cleaned with warm water and either non-toxic dish soap or a splash of distilled white vinegar. Both of these solutions are excellent for cleaning cabinets, refrigerators, countertops, and nearly any household item that needs a little spring cleaning.

Your community’s Little Free Library will be stocked with various books for readers of all ages, including preschool books. Did you find the Little Free Library? Upload photos of your family reading together, and be sure to tag @ LMHJointBaseLewisMcChord.

Preventative Maintenance Inspections Each year, your home will receive an annual maintenance inspection by a specially trained LMH team member who can identify potential problems that may otherwise go unnoticed. During preventative maintenance, our team may inspect your home’s air filters and check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. They’ll also inspect for visible signs of mold. Your water heater will also be examined, and our team will check for any potential gas leaks. This is an extensive inspection, and many aspects of your home will be evaluated. Depending on the home, this could take one to three hours. We understand this annual inspection might cause disruptions to your schedule, so we will provide you with a 2-day notice before entering your home. Once the inspection is complete, we will discuss any work that needs to be completed, and our team will create service requests for additional items that might be discovered during the inspection. Preventative maintenance is an excellent way to spotlight small issues before they become bigger issues.

Prep for a PCS Bulk Trash Pick Up PCS season is gearing up for many in our communities. If you’re planning to move this spring or summer and are starting on your PCS purge, you might produce excess trash that needs to be picked up. JBLM residents are entitled to one free bulk trash pickup. Call the district office for more information on scheduling your pick-up.
