A Thank you to Military Families & Veterans Saluting our Military Families!

This month our Nation recognizes and honors all our military families as Military Family Appreciation Month begins! November marks the annual celebration of the Military Family in which our country gives tribute to the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of the nation’s service members.

Lincoln Military Housing would like to thank all our military families for your steadfast support as you have faced the special challenges of long deployments, family separations, and frequent relocations with great courage and resolve. Your selfless dedication, which has directly contributed to the mission readiness of our service members, is a source of inspiration and deep gratitude. Did you know that Military Family Appreciation Month was established in 1993 by the Armed Services YMCA, with the U.S. Government recognizing the occasion every year since! Thank you ASYMCA

Living Green Tips: Batteries & Hazardous Chemicals There are many types of batteries: alkaline batteries, rechargeable batteries, lithium, lithium ion, and zinc air batteries that can be recycled, including batteries from household items (cameras, cell phones, laptops, power tools, etc.). You can take dead alkaline and rechargeable batteries to the following businesses to recycle them: Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, or Staples.

The Holidays and Trash pick up: During the holidays LeMay will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. All trash service will be pushed one day to accommodate their holiday schedule.

Extended Leave or Vacation from your home When leaving your home for an extended period of time (more than two (2) weeks), a Vacation and Extended Absence Form must be completed and given to your District Office. This form can be picked up at any of our District Offices. Before you leave your home, we strongly recommend that you: 1. Stop mail and newspaper delivery.

2. Leave pets with friends or at a kennel (pets are not allowed to stay in your home during your absence.

3. Unplug all unnecessary appliances such as a TV, coffee maker, or computers.

4. Lock and secure all doors and windows.

5. Turn off water supply line to washing machine.

During winter months: Please call our Customer Service line at 253.912.3500 for special “cold weather” instructions to prevent frozen / broken pipes.

Pet Responsibilities Pet droppings are odorous, unsightly, and a nuisance.

More importantly, they can be a health hazard, especially for children. Therefore, pets must be kept under control so they do not defecate on parade fields, playgrounds, troop formation areas, sidewalks/walkways, common areas, miniature playgrounds of the housing areas, and neighbors' yards. You will immediately clean up droppings when your pet defecates outside of your residence yard.

Recreational Vehicles

Recreational vehicles are not permitted to be stored within your neighborhood. Recreational vehicle parking lots are available through MWR. Please visit the JBLM website for more information.

For temporary passes for your recreational vehicle please visit your District Office for the process.

Community Centers

All Community Centers are for the use of residents of Lewis-McChord Communities exclusively. Any resident in good standing (i.e. no balance owing) of any community may reserve any Community Center for any personal/social event if the center is available at the desired time. All reservations require a security/ cleaning deposit.

A Community Center may be reserved for military functions such as FRG meetings, unit picnics, etc. on any available MonThurs. No military functions will be scheduled on Fri-Sun. A housing resident will need to complete the reservation form and bring the security/cleaning deposit at the time the agreement is signed.

Request your reservation by visiting your District Office. You will be contacted to continue the reservation process, or call 253-912-2150

Landscaping

Droppings in your residence, including your yard, will be removed daily.

Pet owners are responsible for disposing of their pet's waste, whether the pet is on a leash or in a fenced area. A pet owner who does not properly dispose of his/her pet's waste will be subject to a fine of $25 for each offense plus $5 per day that the violation persists.

With the fall season comes heavy rain, wind and chilly weather. If you have a pet that spends time in the fenced yard, make sure you are taking the best care possible of your four legged family member. * Make sure your pet has shelter from the elements * Make sure your pet has food and water. * Bring your pet in when the weather is extreme.

Remember if its too cold for you, its too cold for your pet.

Be kind, bring them inside.

Lincoln Military Housing

Landscaping services are currently included in your rent. On your lawn service day, you will need to ensure that your lawn is free of toys and personal belongings so the mowers can cut your grass. You can have one large non moveable item in your yard such as a swing set or trampoline. Please see your District Office for Outdoor Policies. The mowers will cut within two (2) feet of the item. You will be responsible to cut the grass under and the two (2) feet around the item.

You may choose to maintain your own lawn if desired. Contact your Community Office for a sign to put in your window.

If the home you live in has a fence either provided or installed by you, you are responsible for the maintenance of your yard.

All flowerbeds adjacent to your home are your responsibility to maintain weed-free. Failure to maintain may result in fines.

Winter Weather Tips For Your Home / Ice and Snow Winter Weather Tips For Your Home: With the changing weather, we could experience extreme temperature drops, snow and ice. When this kind of weather hits the Northwest, there is the possibility of pipes freezing and bursting in your home. You can help to prevent this by taking some simple steps. Disconnect all garden hoses from the exterior faucets. Keep your house temperature set at 55 or higher, even if you’re leaving the house for an extended period of time. Do not turn off the heating system, this can cause significant damage in your home due to broken water pipes. Open cabinet doors below sinks to allow heat from the home to circulate in these enclosed spaces. During extended periods of freezing temperatures set your inside faucets on a low drip to circulate water in the pipes and help prevent the lines from freezing.

Ice and Snow: With snow and ice accumulations typically spanning short periods of time in the Pacific Northwest your Lewis McChord Communities teams will focus on hills, major roads and major intersections in and out of our communities. Lewis McChord Communities does not shovel or lay down ice/snow melt in walkways or driveways around the homes. During these times we ask you to use caution while moving in and around JBLM and other communities surrounding the installation, including major freeways and roadways. Follow the guidance provided by local officials and be safe when making a decision to travel away from your home.

HAVE A SAFE WINTER

Windy Weather Tips The Holidays and Trash pick up: During the holidays LeMay will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. All trash service will be pushed one day to accommodate their holiday schedule.

For example: Christmas week.

If your trash day is Monday, you will see no change to your service. If your normal trash day is on Tuesday - Friday, because LeMay is closed on Christmas, Tuesday pick up will be pushed to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday and Friday to Saturday. Starting Monday, all trash service will return to normal pick up days.

The Pacific Northwest is know for its diverse fall weather. Generally, high winds and heavy rain will become a consistant part of your daily life. Here are a few tips to protect your personal belonging during the fall and winter months.

1. Turn trampolines upside down while not in use.

2. Be sure to latch all screen doors.

3. Do not leave windows open during wind and heavy rains.

4. Report all wind / storm damage immediately.

5. Bring in or properly store all outdoor items that can be easily blown away (patio cushions).

ROAD SNOW,ICE AND SANDING REMOVAL PLAN LEWIS-MCCHORD COMMUNITIES

When ice or snow accumulations are imminent, Lewis-McChord Communities staff will be on standby to respond if in fact the weather does affect the roads within the Housing Areas. While in standby mode, we will monitor local news as well as the Joint Base Alerts, so we can provide the quickest response possible to the ever changing conditions.

Please keep in mind, LMC does not have staff on site 24 hours a day to assess road conditions; so when conditions change overnight we will respond as quickly as possible in cooperation with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Works.

LMC responds with a phased plan addressing current road conditions focused on the most critical areas first, including hills and major intersections. As we implement our plan we will cooperate with installation resources to leverage our assets, helping to provide the safest passage possible for LMC residents and staff. The work order line is always available to our residents providing them an outlet to report issues in their area.

LMC may send Red Flag Alerts to our residents providing specific instructions and warnings regarding inclement weather when necessary. All Lewis-McChord Communities residents are automatically registered for the LMH Red Flag alerts. If you have specific phone numbers or emails you would like to receive these alerts, contact your District Office to update your profile. We also encourage our residents to opt into the JBLM Emergency Notification services which is another mode of communication from local authorities, including JBLM Commanders.

So that our focus remains on the most critical areas, LMC will not be plowing and/or sanding side streets, rather focusing on major connecting roads, hills and intersections in and out of our communities. If you are concerned with getting from your driveway, please stop to consider other options before you leave your home.

Major snow accumulations in the Pacific Northwest are not constant in the winter and can vary considerably. Resources on JBLM and in many of the municipalities surrounding the installation are limited, travel may be limited in many of these areas, so please use caution before deciding to travel away from your home. Monitor Local News and Command communications so that you are making informed decisions on your travel plans.

While it is the residents responsibility to perform snow/ice removal at their individual homes and the sidewalks in front of the homes, we will do our best to provide for the safe passage of our residents in and out of the JBLM neighborhoods and respond to resident concerns as resources allow.

Dumpsters Neat, not Nasty

On Joint Base Lewis-McChord the fall weather is setting in, that means more rain in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Every time it rains, water runs off the land as stormwater. As it flows over rooftops, lawns, driveways and streets, stormwater picks up pollutants, and debris such as dirt, motor oil, fertilizer, litter and pet waste. All of these pollutants are carried by stormwater into storm drains and drainage ditches, which flows untreated into our rivers, lakes, streams, and ultimately the Puget Sound.

BIN THERE, DO THAT

Be the Solution! What can you do?

1. Close your dumpster lid, keep trash picked up, and replace drippy containers. When rain lands on top of garbage it creates pollution from contamination.

2. Never dump anything onto the street, down a storm drain, or into a drainage ditch.

3. Check your vehicles for leaks, use the MWR Auto craft shops to repair them as soon as possible.

4. Always recycle your motor oil, other vehicle fluids, and household hazardous waste (HHW). Contact JBLM Environmental, 253-966-3170 for questions.

5. Pick up after your pet. Bag it and throw it into the trash.

6. Spill response! If you use or suspect anything other than clean rainwater is flowing to the drain, call 911 JBLM to report.

How often do you ask yourself what's safe to put in your in recycling bin?

Next time you go to throw something away, get creative and think of ways to reduce waste in the first place!

Only paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, jugs & jars, aluminum & tin cans can go into your recycling bin.

Stormwater pollution is the biggest threat to our waterways.

It harms our ability to use our rivers and lakes for swimming and fishing, makes treating our drinking water more difficult and negatively impacts the environment and can harm wildlife.
