Featured Story
On This Day We Remember..... On September 11, Patriot Day gives all of us time to reflect on the devastating terror attacks that took nearly 3,000 lives. We commemorate those who we lost and give thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line. Take a moment to consider what we stand for as a nation and how we can work together to make the world a better place for all. TRADITIONS OF THE DAY Every year since the tragic day of September 11, 2001, all American citizens come together to remember and honor the fallen. Fighting valiantly till the end, their lives and stories are forever memorialized and illuminate this dark day in history. Moments of silences are observed several times during the day. The timings correspond with the terrorist attacks, with the first one starting at 8:46 A.M. EDT and the last one at 10:28 A.M EDT. National Day of Service and Remembrance is a difficult day for many, with some solace found in the memorial tributes to those who lost their lives, and through support groups dedicated to spreading kindness and comfort to families today. Memorial events and prayer vigils are participated in across the country. Today, reflecting and remembering the events that took place in 2001 reminds people of the sensitivity of time and the importance of standing united as a nation. Lewis-McChord Communities

Important Reminders from Pierce County Recycling: Living Green
Living Green Tips: Living Green with Your Kids Your family’s environmental impact begins at home. There is no better time than now, as we stay home during the pandemic, to collaborate with your kids to adopt eco-friendly practices. The habits you teach them at home will help them practice sustainability for the rest of their lives. Reducing your waste as a Lincoln family can be a big lifestyle change, but by involving the whole family it can become an educational and fun experience.

1. Talk to your kids about the environment: Encourage your kids to ask you questions about environmental issues. It’s ok if you don’t have all the answers. You can look them up together and discuss what you have learned. 2. Make sure everyone has a reusable water bottle: Reduce your families use of plastic water bottles with metal or glass reusable bottles. 3. Practice recycling and sorting: Take a moment to look up what is recyclable in your area and practice sorting waste with your family. Unsoiled paper products, aluminum, glass jars, and rigid plastic can be recycled in most curbside recycling programs. 4. Start a family herb garden: Children develop new skills and learn about science and nature from growing their own food. 5. Make zero waste snacks together: Instead of reaching for a prepackaged snack try making snacks together, such as trail mix, carrot sticks and hummus, apple slices and peanut butter, and stove top popcorn. 6. Go on a nature walk: Nature time allows families to bond with each other and the beauty of nature. Getting outside is a great reminder for why you are trying to reduce your family’s impact on the environment. 7. Donate old toys: Living sustainably isn’t only about waste, it’s also about resource production. Does your family have any extra toys that could be redistributed to other children? 8. Say no to straws: 500 million plastic straws are used in the US each day! These straws end up in the trash our polluting the environment. Drive Thru your district Community Expo event to pick up a goodie bag with a Living Green reusable metal straw for your family!

Back To School Is Here!
National Good Neighbor Day Good neighbors make great neighborhoods and with many of us spending more time at home and in our communities, this is more relevant now than ever. In 1978 President Jimmy Carter issued a proclamation to celebrate National Good Neighbor day in September and this year it is being celebrated on Monday, September 28th. Even while social distancing, there are a lot of ways to be a good neighbor and celebrate those who live around us. Here are a few tips for being a good neighbor in 2021! •
Observe social distancing and mask requirements. Show your neighbors you respect them by taking their health to heart whenever you are out. We’re all in this together!
•
That being said, don’t be afraid to say hello and check on your neighbors when you see them out! A short friendly conversation might be just what your neighbor needs to perk up their day!
•
If you have a pet, make sure you are responsible about cleaning up after them. Nobody wants to step in a surprise on their morning walk!
•
Shop local. Local business owners are your neighbors too and by opting to buy from smaller neighborhood stores for items, you help them stay afloat (and help limit your impact on the environment too! It’s a winwin!)
•
Stay patient. A lot of things around us are changing on a daily basis and everyone in your neighborhood is likely handling things in a different way. By staying patient and keeping communication open we can help keep ourselves on good terms with our neighbors.
• Here at Lincoln, we are all grateful for the incredible military families who live with us and want to take a moment to thank you all for being incredible neighbors year-round! Lewis-McChord Communities

Resident Reminders Name Plates - A thing of the past Effective September 1st, Lewis-McChord Communities will no longer provide name plates for each home. Many residents have been provided these at move in and these will be present in the neighborhoods. Overtime the name plates and holders will be removed. If a family has been provided a name plate and it is damaged during their residency, it will not be replaced.
Changes to the Satellite Dish Policy Effective September 1st: Lewis-Mcchord Communities will no longer allow satellite dishes to be attached to our homes. If attached, the resident will be responsible to remove immediately and responsible for all cost associated with the repairs to the home. We recommend install using a weighted tripods. (See image).
If you have any questions please feel free to visit your District Office.
Window Safety Window Safety - Here’s What You Can Do
Moving Out When it’s time to move out, we have a few simple requirements: 1. You must visit your District Office to complete a Notice to Vacate. At that time a pre-inspection appointment will be made. The date and time of your final inspection will also be scheduled at this time. 2. You must provide us with a valid forwarding address. 3. As required by your lease, you must leave your home in the same clean, undamaged and ready-to–rent condition as when you moved in. Ordinary wear and tear will be taken into account. Ordinary wear and tear would include such things as traffic wear across the carpet, but not damage such as burns or stains. When you vacate your home, any personal property left behind will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of without liability to us, subject to applicable laws. Any incurred costs for cleaning, repairs, trash removal or items left behind after move out will be the responsibility of the vacating resident.

Window safety starts with you. There’s no substitute for adult supervision when children are near windows. Always supervise children when playing around windows. The number one preventative measure against window accidents is adult supervision. Here’s how you can protect your children from accidents involving windows. • Do not place anything a child can climb on underneath windows. This includes furniture like beds and sofas along with dressers, tables, and nightstands. • Teach children to play in areas away from windows. • Do not set up play areas underneath or near windows. • Remind caregivers and children that screens keep bugs out. They do not prevent children from falling. • Keep windows closed and locked when not in use. • Ask about window safety when your child visits other homes.

Window Blind Safety Window Blind Safety - We Want To Hear From You Please take a moment to take a look at all the window blinds in your home. Here is what to look for: • Pull cords to raise and lower. • Tilt cords to allow light in. • Inner cords that make a loop for a small head to fit through. Cord safety can be very confusing because all window covering products with cords must have a warning label, even the cordless ones. We are working on this issue. If you have window blinds with cords that are longer than 8” or looped, then contact us right away to correct this immediately. Please email the following information to your District Office. You can find their email address below: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Name Address How many corded blinds are present in your home Best phone number to reach you at If we have permission to enter your home to complete a work order for your corded blinds if you are not home

JBLM News
It’s time for back-to-school shopping. Shop sustainable! As you’re buying school supplies, remember to buy sustainably sourced products, such as recycled notebooks and paper, and eco-friendly pencils, pens and binders. Sustainable products have a minimum of packaging, can last and be reused through the years. As an alternative, look into local “buy nothing” groups or thrift stores for supplies, school clothes and backpacks. Before you shop, take stock of what you already have around the house and sort through your supplies on-hand.
