IUNGO PARK

GAINESVILLE, FL/06.2017

Mindfulness and connection are the guiding concepts of this design. This community park is intended to serve as a celebration of yoga, meditation, and connection with oneself, others, and nature. A meandering meditation walk through the park invites visitors to enjoy solitary time or a quiet experience with another person. The dance and yoga studios give the community safe exercise spaces. These activities also help cultivate a sense of appreciation for self through mindful movement. Design elements throughout the park are inspired by yoga poses and chakra symbols. Contrasts between group and solitary spaces, shade and sun, high and low, hardscape and softscape can be found throughout the park. FIGURE 4. ILLUSTRATIVE MASTER PLAN LEGEND

USTLER YARDLEY GARDEN GAINESVILLE, FL/10.2018

The Ustler Yardley Garden is a space in the historic heart of the University of Florida’s campus. Clients sought a revised planting design that reflected a more traditional garden character. The plant palette was developed to unify the space with adjacent gardens. Seasonal color revitalizes the currently bland perimeter of the space while the core of the garden (left in the plan images below) is composed of varying shades of green accented by white and purple flowers. The design team was composed of another student and two faculty members. My primary roles were plant selection and rendering assistance.

GAINESVILLE COHOUSING GAINESVILLE, FL/04.2018

The concept for the common spaces of this neighborhood was developed with another student. The intent is to celebrate north Florida ecosystems and outdoor living by including a boardwalk in the detention pond and employing a native plant palette. The homeowners requested a meditation area complemented by a back patio conducive to entertaining. The front yard features a pollinator garden and a downspout channeling water into a runnel. This runs along the house and leads to a depression below a cypress tree. Planters of varying heights and sizes lined up with the windows on the sides of the house create a living fence for residents to enjoy privacy without the harshness of a fence. The plants provide lush views from the ample windows and buffer residents from the neighbors.

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN SOUTH FLORIDA/02.2018

Gathering areas of various scales drive the design of this south Florida golf course residential design. The front yard features a small conversational patio under the shade of tropical fruit trees. Along the west side of the house, residents and guests alike can wander the meandering path, enjoying the lush foliage of the tropical plant palette. A meditation space is tucked away along this path, offering a quiet place for contemplation amongst the plants. The pool deck and outdoor kitchen overlook the golf course and pond while the ornamental grasses below offer residents privacy from golfers. The pergola seating area accommodates small groups of people, creating a more intimate conversational atmosphere overlooking the pond. Children have space to play in the open lawn yard on the east side of this family home.

DESK LAMP

ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION STUDIO/01.2019

An exploration of form and materials, this lamp goes above and beyond the basic function of providing light. This project served as an initial exposure to working with materials like timber and concrete. Warm light flows out of the pine, highlighting the beautiful grain and story of the wood. Rough concrete contrasts with the smooth, even wood and adds an industrial, studio-like feel to this piece. Created through a quick yet iterative design process, this lamp serves as a reminder of the design process: fast-paced, detail-oriented, rewarding, challenging, and full of unexpected lessons.
