FISHING REPORT Lake Murray: Striped bass: Fair. Captain Brad Taylor reports that good numbers of striper made their way up the river in their annual run, but the rains created muddy water and so a lot of the fish moved back down the lake below the mud line. The fish that stayed up the lake scattered out and became harder

Overall the best bet right now is to fish down-lines in 40-45 feet of water down around Buffalo Creek and Rocky Creek, but the rivers may turn on again once the water settles out a bit. It’s a Dog’s Life

By Scoop Bellune What Time is It? On some air bases the Air Force is on one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side of the field, with the control tower in the middle.

One day the tower on one particular base received a call from an aircraft asking, “What time is it?”

The tower responded, “Who is calling?”

The aircraft replied, “What difference does it make?”

The tower replied “It makes a lot of difference: If it is an American Airlines Flight, it is 3 o’clock.

If it is an Air Force, it is 1500 hours.

If it is a Navy aircraft, it is 6 bells.

If it is an Army aircraft, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 3.

If it is a Marine Corps aircraft, it’s Thursday afternoon.”

Warranty Claim An angry client went back to the automobile garage where he’d purchased an expensive battery for his car six months earlier.

“Listen,” the motorist grumbled to the owner of the garage, “when I bought this battery you said it would be the last battery my car would ever need. It died after only six months!”

“Sorry,” apologized the garage owner. “I didn’t think your car would last longer than that.”

Telemarketer Avoidance A man I know has the perfect response when telemarketers call to get him to switch long distance services.

He says “I don’t have a

They usually say “Oh, I’m sorry.” and hang up.

How to Photograph a Puppy Remove film from box and load camera.

Remove film box from puppy’s mouth and throw in trash.

Remove puppy from trash and brush coffee grounds from muzzle.

Fatherly Knowledge A father and son went fishing one day. After a couple hours out in the boat, the boy suddenly became curious about the world

around him. He asked his father, “How does this boat float?”

The father thought for a moment, then replied, “I don’t really know, son.”

The boy returned to his contemplation, then turned back to his father, “How do fish breath underwater?”

Once again the father replied, “Don’t really know, son.”

A little later the boy asked his father, “Why is the sky blue?”

Again, the father replied.

“Don’t really know, son.”

Worried he was going to annoy his father, he said, “Dad, do you mind me asking you all of these questions?”

“Of course not son. How else are you ever going to learn anything?” replied his father.

Bottom of the Barrel A C-141 transport aircraft was preparing for departure from a base in Thule, Greenland. They had been waiting for the truck to arrive to pump out the aircraft’s sewage holding tank.

The Aircraft Commander was in a hurry, the truck was late in arriving, and the Airman performing the job was extremely slow in getting the tank pumped out.

The Aircraft Commander berated the Airman for his lack of speed and promised to pursue punitive action.

The Airman responded, “Sir, I have no stripes, it is 20 below zero, I am stationed in Thule, Greenland, and I am pumping sewage out of airplanes. Just what are you planning to do to punish me?”

Ice Cream is Good

for the Soul One day, I took my children to a restaurant.

My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads, he said, “God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all! Amen!”

Along with laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country.

Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!”

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, “Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?”

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer.”

“Really?” my son asked.

The man replied, “Cross my heart.”

Then in a theatrical whisper the gentleman added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.”

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is already good.”

Operator I dialed ’0’ and when a sweet voice answered, I said, “Hello, operator, I’d like to speak to the king of the jungle.”

She answered immediately, “I’m very sorry, but the lion is busy.”

Important Message Several months ago I went on a business trip to the enormous Boeing factory in Redmond, WA, where I was able to crawl on and around several 747s, 767s, and 777s airliners in various stages of assembly.

I noticed that the engines aren’t attached until the rest of the plane is pretty much assembled. To keep the airplanes from tipping while work crews are in the fuselage, enormous weights are hung from chains on the wings, dangling above the floor like bizarre Christmas ornaments. Each weight is a solid slab of steel the size of golf cart and is painted with fluorescent, reflective yellow paint.

Most interesting is the boldface label stenciled on each side of the weight: “7,800 LBS. REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT”.

Perceptive Salesman After being away on business, Tom thought it would be nice to bring his wife a little gift.

How about some perfume?” he asked the cosmetics clerk.

She showed him a bottle costing $50.00.

“That’s a bit much,” said Tom, so she returned with a smaller bottle for $30.00.

“That’s still quite a bit,” Tom groused.

Growing annoyed, the clerk brought out a tiny

$15.00 bottle.

“What I mean,” said Tom, “is I’d like to see something really cheap.”

So the clerk handed him a mirror.

Multitude of Illnesses Our neighbor used the word hypochondriac to describe the phase her teenage daughter was going though.

One day the girl was convinced that the pain on her left side was appendicitis.

Her mother explained that the appendix is on the right.

“So that’s why it hurts so much,” her daughter said.

“My appendix is on the wrong side.”

A Good Wife A wife is someone who sees lots of things that need to be done but aren’t important enough for her to do.

Old-fashioned Anesthesia A man who had just undergone a very complicated operation kept complaining about a bump on his head and a terrible headache.

Since his operation had been intestinal, there was no earthly reason why he should be complaining of a headache.

His nurse feared that the man might be suffering from some post-operative shock, so she spoke to the doctor.

The doctor assured the nurse, “Don’t worry about a thing. He has a bump on his head because we ran out of anesthetic halfway through the operation.”
