1. Why can’t I access the internet on wifi?

First, is the wifi turned on? Make sure that your computer has the wifi turned on and your router is working.

If the connection is secure, make sure the password is correct. All else fails, if you have access, reboot your router.

2. Why must we reboot the router?

Sometimes it gets hung

up with the amount of information that flows between it and your computer. It just needs to restart and try again. Remember if you are rebooting a router, unplug it, wait a full 15 seconds and then plug it back in. Giving it that time helps to reset the connection completely.

3. Why is my computer acting weird?

No lie, this is the question I hear so often. There are no more details than it is acting weird.

Now I am assuming it isn’t doing flips and running around. So I’m guessing it is doing something you aren’t used to seeing.

The most common answer

I give is to reboot. And I really do mean this.

Cut it completely off for at least 15 seconds and then turn it back on.

Do not do a “reboot” from the menu. Shut . . . it . . . down.

If it is a laptop, unplug from everything, turn it off and take the battery out.

If it is a desktop, unplug everything but the power, shut it down and then unplug the power.

Why do I suggest this? To make sure you are doing a full shut down and you didn’t just restart it or put it to sleep. You need it completely off.

4. Why can’t I print?

Is it plugged up? No, I’m

not being mean. Please check your cables. Check both ends. Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on. So many times I go to check a printer and something is just unplugged. No, I don’t mind checking on it but I know people hate to pay for something as simple as a cable.

5. Why can’t I open an attachment?

This means you don’t have the correct program for the file or it means you don’t have the correct files associations. You’ll just want to right click and click on Open With… This will bring up a box to select a program.

Thursday Morning Quarterback

A second straight loss has Batesburg-Leesville clinging to a 3-way tie for third place in Region 2-2A. However, running back Terrence Wilson now has sole possession of the school’s career rushing record. The senior Panther broke the mark held previously by DeKayus Keith on a 68-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against Strom Thurmond.

Wilson also added to his school record in career touchdowns (83) with an 85-yard kickoff return for a score and a 1-yard touchdown run. He finished with 117 rushing yards to increase his career total to 4,218 yards.

Wilson and Touchstone Energy Cooperative Bowl North teammate and Chapin quarterback Logan Bailey are in a race to crack the Top 10 for the Palmetto State’s career touchdown leaders. Bailey’s seven touchdowns (read in this week’s Lexington Chronicle) leaves him four behind Wilson, who moved past Williston-Elko’s Dexter Staley.

Really Important Things My Children Have Taught Me...

It’s more fun to color outside the lines.

If you’re going draw on the wall, do it behind the couch.

Ask why until you understand.

Hang on tight.

Even if you’ve been fishing for 3 hours and haven’t gotten anything except poison ivy and a sunburn, you’re still better off than the worm.

Make up the rules as you go along.

It doesn’t matter who started it.

Ask for sprinkles.

If the horse you’re drawing looks more like a dog, make it a dog.

Save a place in line for your friends.

Piercing Questions The students in my third-grade class were bombarding me with questions about my newly pierced ears.

“Does the hole go all the way through?”

“Yes.” “Did it hurt?”

“Just a little.”

“Did they stick a needle through your ears?”

“No, they used a special gun.”

Silence followed, and then one solemn voice called out, “How far away did they stand?”

Questionable Description A lady called the police to report that her husband was missing.

The police arrived and asked for a description of her husband. She told them that he was 6 foot 2 inches tall with blonde wavy hair and a smile that made everyone love him.

The police proceeded to go next door to ask the neighbor if she had any information about the man.

The lady next door, astonished at the description given to the police by her neighbor, told the police, “That’s not true . He’s 5 foot 4 inches tall, is bald and has a perpetual frown on his face.”

After the police left, the neighbor went to ask why the woman had given the police a false description of her husband.

She replied, “Just because I reported him missing doesn’t mean I want him back!”

Matching Clothes I come from a large family, five sisters and three brothers. My sisters and I were looking through the family photo album one day. Picture after picture, we were all dressed in matching clothes. I asked my mother why she dressed us all alike, right down to the baby.

She explained, “When we had just four children, I dressed you alike so we wouldn’t lose any of you.

Then,” she added, looking at the pictures in the album, “as the other five came along, I started dressing you alike so we wouldn’t pick up any that don’t belong to us.”

Parental Relationships An elderly man in Florida calls his son in New York. The father says to the son, “I hate to tell you, but we’ve got some troubles here in the house. Your mother and I can’t stand each other anymore, and we’re thinking of getting a divorce. I’ve had it! I want to live out the rest of my years in peace. I’m telling you now, so you and your sister shouldn’t go into shock later when I move out.”

He hangs up, and the son immediately calls his sister in the Hamptons and

She calls Florida and says to her father, “Don’t do ANYTHING until me and my Brother get there! We’ll be there Wednesday night.”

The father agrees. He hangs up the phone and hollers to his wife, “Okay, they’re coming for Thanksgiving. Now, what are we going to tell them for Christmas?”

The company boss was complaining in a staff meeting that he wasn’t getting any respect. Later that morning he went to a local sign shop and bought a small sign that read: “I’m the Boss!”

He then taped it to his office door.

Later that day when he returned from lunch, he found that someone had taped a note to the sign that said: “Your wife called, she wants her sign back!”

Highway Signs A police officer pulled over a car. When he walked up to the car, he saw that there were three nuns in the car.

He said, “Ma’am, you’re driving too slow, could you please drive faster?”

The nun replied, “Oh, I’m sorry officer. I saw a 21 on the sign and assumed the speed limit was 21 miles per hour.”

The officer explained, “No, ma’am. The speed limit is 65. The highway is 21.”

Piano jewel box was made on Edisto Island

T

his jewel box is likely the only one like it ever produced.

According to family records, it was made on Edisto Island around 1900.

It was crafted by one of the plantation workers as a gift for a young lady of the house. Likely, he saw a life-size piano like this on a trip to Charleston and came away inspired to craft a diminutive one like it for a beloved individual.

It is made of wood that was salvaged from larger projects. It is a very good likeness of a grand piano of the period. The back of the box will open just as a piano does to reveal strings and keys. In this case, this box is lined with pompadour pink silk velvet to become a storage area for prized jewels and tokens of affection.

The work is rather crude yet completely compelling in it’s execution. Each element is hand-planed and made as close to the proportion of the full scale model as possible. The most interesting part of this piano box are the keys, which are comprised of a painted section of heart pine with live oak twigs used to simulate the black keys.

Ninth Annual Haunted History Halloween Tours at the Museum: The Lexington County Museum will host the 9 Halloween program at 231 Fox Street in Lexington this year. Seniors Program, made possible through a grant from the United Way of the Midlands, to provide caregiver relief opportunities on the weekends for those caring for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and related disabilities age 55 and older within their home.
