Someone is always making fun of me.

They joke that I am a mother of two who looks ten years younger than I am.

They joke that I barely hit five feet and my tenyear-old is almost that tall.

When it was brought to my attention that I was being pretty particular about

how our office computers were set up, I didn’t think anything of it. Now that I’ve had time to think, how you set up a computer is important.

Wires are the bane of all computer people. They get in the way and break far too easily. Wires would be my hell, just balls of tangled wires. If you plug it into the wrong port they could short-circuit wiring.

If you pull too hard they can come apart.

Do you know how many times I’ve lost the one cable that fit my peripheral and could never find a replacement?

Wires should be zip-tied and labeled at all times.

Peripherals are a pain.

Not only do they have the above-mentioned pieces of hell, but they themselves require so much.

Watch it, bubba.

Don’t place weight on your delicate little keyboard or mouse.

Heaven forbid you should spill a drink over your keyboard.

Printers have to be placed so that the paper doesn’t fall to the floor but must be within reach.

Don’t forget the card readers. They have to be plugged in.

And computers never have enough USB ports, do they?

I once found this amazing invention. It is a USB port hub, plugs into one USB port on the computer but gives you six extra. It’s ingenious!

You pixelated, too?

Monitors have to be stored, carried, and placed so carefully so that you don’t mess up any pixels. I have done graphic design for many years and I really cannot tell you the times I’ve had one little pixel go black on me.

If you don’t know, a pixel is one tiny square on your

monitor. So you just have what amounts to a black dot that you cannot get rid of.

Then there is the tower, that usually black rectangular box that hides all the gizmos that run your life.

That all important box makes the entire contraption work.

The tower cannot be dropped.

It cannot get too hot or too cold.

It needs space so that the fans can work correctly.

Perish the thought you’d get dust in it.

So many things can go wrong.

Is it any wonder that I am picky about how computers are set up? At least when I set them up, I know it was done right. I think.

LAKE MURRAY: White perch: Very good. Lake World reports that the most dependable bite continues to be the white perch bite, and anglers are catching fish in the very broad range of 5-60 feet of water. The prime depth range has been 2030 feet, however, with fish schooled up near the bottom in those depths. Jigging spoons fished vertically are tough to beat once you locate the fish.

Catfish: Fair to good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the most productive pattern is still to anchor on humps and points and fan-cast stinkbaits, shrimp and herring for channel catfish. Space your baits on ledges that range from 5-30 feet. Once the lake clears some and water temperatures begin to drop the baitfish should move deeper, which should cause the catfish to move deeper as well and improve the drift bite.

Lexington County is now home to two of the 10 most prolific scorers in South Carolina High School League football history.

Chapin quarterback Logan Bailey and Batesburg-Leesville running back Terrence Wilson have cracked into the Top 10 of career touchdown leaders.

Bailey’s latest Chronicle County Player of the Week performance in the 42-32 win over Wren (261 rushing yards, 5 TDs; 131 passing yards, TD) has given him 64 total touchdowns this season. This is the second-highest total in state history behind J.F. Byrnes’ Shuler Bentley (71) set in 2013.

Bailey now has 101 career touchdowns which ranks him fifth, three behind former J.F. Byrnes and University of South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore for fourth place.

Wilson saw his Panthers’ career end with 93 career touchdowns, ranking him first all-time at Batesburg-Leesville and eight all-time. He also finishes as the Panthers’ all-time leading rusher with 4,692 yards, Another state title for Allen Sitterle A year ago, former Lexington High School head football coach Allen Sitterle was coaxed out of retirement.

He’s now a 5-time state champion after leading SCISA school Andrew Jackson Academy out of Ehrhardt to an undefeated season at 14-0 and 8-man championship. The Confederates rallied from a 16-0 deficit to defeat Greenwood Christian 20-16 in the title game played at Wilson Hall in Sumter.

Sitterle previously led Daniel High School to four state titles in the 1990s and coached at Lexington from 2007-09.

Meanwhile, former Dutch Fork head coach Bill Kimrey’s quest for the Class A title at Calhoun County ended with a 28-20 loss to Allendale-Fairfax. The Saints’ finished the season at 11-1.

Heart Transplant A man who was having heart trouble went to the doctor to see what his options were. The doctor recommended a heart transplant. The man reluctantly agreed and asked the doctor what hearts were available, reminding him that he was rich, and money was no object.

“I have three hearts,” said the doctor. “The first is from an 18-year old kid, non-smoker, athletic, swimmer, with a great diet. He hit his head on the swimming pool and died. It’s $100,000.”

The doctor continued, “The second is from a marathon runner, 24 years old, great condition, very strong. He got hit by a bus.

It’s also $100,000.”

The third is from a middle-aged man who was a heavy drinker and smoker and ate a lot of red meat.

It’s $500,000.”

“Hey, why is that heart so expensive? He lived a terrible life!”

“Yeah, but he was a lawyer. Of the three hearts, it’s the least used.”

Home While I was dining out with my children, a man came over to our table, and we started talking.

He asked where my kids went to school. I told him we home-schooled them.

With a raised eyebrow, he asked if my husband was the sole breadwinner for our family.

I said, “No, I also work out of our home.”

It was the final answer on the game show and the contestant was one question away from the 1 million dollar prize.

“To be today’s champion,” the show’s smiling host intoned, “name two of Santa’s reindeer.”

The contestant gave a sigh of relief, gratified that she had drawn such an easy question.

“Rudolph!” she said confidently, “...and Olive!”

The studio audience started to applaud (as the little sign above their heads said to do), but the clapping quickly faded into mumbling, and the confused host replied, “Yes, we’ll accept Rudolph, but could you please explain ’Olive’?”

“You know,” the contestant began to sing, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glowed. Olive, the other reindeer... “

New Enemies A knight and his men return to their castle after a long hard day of fighting.

“How are we faring?” asks the king.

Thank God! A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication for her daughter.

When returning to her car she found that she had locked her keys in the car.

She was in a hurry to get home to her sick daughter.

She didn’t know what to do, so she called her home and told the baby sitter

what had happened and that she did not know what to do. The baby sitter told her that her daughter was getting worse.

She said, “You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door.”

The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time or other had locked their keys in their car.

Then she looked at the hanger and said, “I don’t know how to use this.”

So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help. Within five minutes an old rusty car pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head.

The woman thought, “This is what you sent to

help me?” But, she was desperate, so she was also very thankful.

The man got out of his car and asked her if he could help. She said, “Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?”

He said, “Sure”. He walked over to the car, and in less than one minute the car was opened.

She hugged the man and through her tears she said, “Thank You So Much!

You are a very nice man.”

The man replied, “Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and have only been out for about an hour.”

The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, “Oh, Thank you God! You even sent me a Professional!”
