Lake Murray: Bream: Good. Lake World reports that the shellcracker bite remains very strong, both for sizes and numbers of fish. Concentrate in 4-10 feet of water and fish worms on the bottom.

Striped bass: Good. Lake World reports that striper continue to school all over the lake, and looking for schooling activity is the best way to catch keepersized fish. Schooling can take places in coves or out in open water, and it can happen all day long. Some days the best schooling activity has been midafternoon. There is also some down-line fishing as deep as about 30 feet, and with cooling water temperatures and fish moving shallower free-lining is also becoming more productive.

It’s a Dog’s Life

Wisdom Learned with Age (Part 1) I started with nothing.

I still have most of it.

When did my wild oats turn to prunes and all bran?

I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart.

Funny, I don’t remember being absent minded.

All reports are in. Life is now officially unfair.

If all is not lost, where is it?

It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.

If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished.

The first rule of holes: if you are in one, stop digging.

I tried to get a life once, but they told me they were out of stock.

I went to school to become a wit, only got halfway through.

It was so different before everything changed.

Some days you’re the dog, and some days you’re the hydrant.

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.

I wish the buck stopped here! I could use a few.

Oil Crisis There are a lot of folks

that can’t understand how we ran out of oil here in the USA. Well, here’s the answer: It’s simple. Nobody bothered to check the oil and we didn’t know we were getting low.

Of course, the reason for that is geographical. All the oil is in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alaska, and all the dipsticks are in Washington, D.C.

The Swiss guy gave up and drove off, extremely disgusted. When he was gone, the first Texan turned to the second and said, “Y’know, maybe we should learn a foreign language.”

“Why?” the other replied. “That guy knew four languages, and it didn’t do him any good.”

This Saturday morning, 10 to noon, the Chronicle and the Lake Murray Fish Wrapper will sponsor a book signing at the Chronicle office, 131 Swartz Road, Lexington, to raise money for Turning Pages, the adult literacy tutoring program.

Turning Pages volunteers have tutored hundreds who used their new ability to enrich their lives, gain better paying jobs and take care of their families.

Chronicle Editor Emeritus Jerry Bellune will personally autographed copies of his books to you or for anyone on your gift list.

“Join us for chilled cider, hot coffee and Christmas cookies,” he said.
