Why is my computer running slow?

Many things can contribute to a slow running computer. Let’s start with the most prevalent, you have some sort of Malware.

Since we did Malware a few weeks ago, how about the other common things that could be slowing you down.

The age of your computer can affect how your computer functions. Why does the age matter? Older computers do not run new programs with ease. That is the simple answer. The newer programs are built for more memory (RAM) and more hard drive space (usually measured in Gigabytes). Check the program(s) you are trying to run for their minimum requirements. Your computer may not meet those.

Sometimes programs can run in the background and you don’t even realize it.

Using multiple programs at once will split your computer’s resources and it will not run each one as efficiently.

There is a really good reason for this. Sometimes a program we are using can just hang up. There is no rhyme or reason and a reboot will close the program and delete any temporary files

FISHING REPORT Lake Murray: Crappie: Very good.

Captain Brad Taylor reports that up the lake about half of the fish have spawned and moved back out, while another half of the fish are spawning or about to spawn. Shallow fish can be caught on a cork and jig or minnow, while many people are trolling in 10-12 feet of water for postspawn fish. Fish can be found trolling most everywhere, and some people are trolling in the backs while others are trolling more open water. Down the lake things are running a little behind.

White Perch: Very good. Lake World reports that the white perch bite is

still very good, with schools scattered all over the lake from 20-70 feet of water.

Use electronics to locate the perch which will be found around schools of bait. The fish will take spoons, minnows, worms or most anything else, with most anglers fishing for them vertically.

Striped bass: Good to very good. Lake World reports that it has been a good week for striped bass, with several fish in the upper 20s as well as multiple “teenage” size fish weigh in. A variety of techniques are catching fish right now, including pulling planer boards with live bait, trolling bucktails and pulling umbrella rigs. The best depth range has been 30 feet and shallower. Overall fish are still in the mid-lake area, but they are moving down the lake right now.

The turn out for the oyster roast was wonderful.

Solicitor Donnie Myers, Chamber President Randy Halfacre, and Paula Calhoon enjoyed the festivities at the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce Oyster Roast Down on the Farm. The event took place last Thursday at Harmon’s Tree Farm in Gilbert. Attendees tucked into oysters supplied by U.S. Foods and enjoyed Hudson’s award-winning barbecue, Poultry in Motion’s chicken wings, and jambalaya from Private Property. They sampled a specialty drink from Copper Horse Distilling and wine from Mercer House Estate Winery, Lexington’s first and only winery. All the while listening to a concert by Tokyo Joe.

Heart Transplant A man who was having heart trouble went to the doctor to see what his options were. The doctor recommended a heart transplant. The man reluctantly agreed and asked the doctor what hearts were available, reminding him that he was rich, and money was no object.

“I have three hearts,” said the doctor. “The first is from an 18-year old kid, non-smoker, athletic, swimmer, with a great diet. He hit his head on the swimming pool and died. It’s $100,000.”

The doctor continued, “The second is from a marathon runner, 24 years old, great condition, very strong. He got hit by a bus.

It’s also $100,000.”

The third is from a middle-aged man who was a heavy drinker and smoker and ate a lot of red meat.

It’s $500,000.”

“Hey, why is that heart so expensive? He lived a terrible life!”

“Yeah, but he was a lawyer. Of the three hearts, it’s the least used.”

Phone Hostage My wife was away all weekend at a business conference.

During a break, she decided to call home collect.

The Law Summer vacation was over and the teacher asked a little boy about his family trip.

Longevity Secret A 100 year old man was having a big birthday party at his nursing home. A TV crew was there to interview the man on this special day.

“Well, I don’t ever drink and I’ve never smoked,” replied the old man. “And, I make it a point to stay away from wild women.”

Just then, there was a loud shriek in the hall. The crew turned to see a nurse run by, followed by an agile looking, older man. The older man carried a foul smelling cigar in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other. As he ran by, he paused for a moment, looked at the crowd and let out a hardy, “He, he, he!” and then continued his pursuit.

“What was that all about?” asked the astonished reporter.

The old man looked at

the reporter and replied, “Please excuse my father he gets carried away sometimes!”

Wedding Practical Joke The best man for a wedding went to a local hardware store and had them give him all of the duplicate keys they had made that didn’t work.

At the wedding, he handed keys to many of the single women in attendance, telling them to hold on to them, and that they would know what to do with the keys when the time came.

At the reception dinner, he stood up and said, “John (the groom) was my best friend and roommate for a long time. As we all know, he is now married.

“I know for a fact that in the past, John gave a lot of women keys to our apartment. Now that Jay is married, none of you will be needing those keys any longer. So would you please return them to Jay now.”

About twenty single women came up to Jay, out of the crowd, and gave keys to him as he sat at awestruck at the table with his bride.

Vacation Time Darla had applied for a job, and when she returned home, her mother asked how the interview went.

“Pretty good, I think,” replied Darla, “but if I go to work there I won’t get a vacation until I’m married.”

Her mother, of course, had never heard of such a thing. “Is that what they told you?”

“No”, replied Darla, “but right on the application it said ‘vacation time may not be taken until you’ve had your First Anniversary.’”
