Fiddle Tunes of the 40’s and 50’s Thursday, June 11th at 1:30 p.m.

Many musical styles flourished and combined in the 1940’s and 1950’s, most likely because of the influence radio had in creating a mass market for music. World War II caused great social upheaval, and the music of this period shows the effects of that upheaval. Join Dr. Nathan Spears & Austen Spears as they present fiddle tunes of the 40’s and 50’s. Dr. Spears will give an introduction to the time period, and tell us about each song Austen performs. This is an engaging and educational program for all ages.

Join Lexington County Director of Veterans Affairs, Ed Lundeen, as he presents an informational seminar that will explain the VA benefits which are available to qualifying veterans, widowed spouses or disabled adult Children of Veterans. Ed will explain eligibility and how to initiate a claim.

Purple Martin Phenomenon at Lake Murray Thursday, June 25th at 1:30 p.m. Each summer, the skies over Lake Murray come to life as the Purple Martins arrive for their summer vacation. It is estimated that more than one million birds venture south for the summer and roost on Bomb Island. Join Mel Coker, life-long Columbia Resident, who lives on Lake Murray in a discussion about one of nature’s true phenomena, the migration of the Purple Martin to Lake Murray.
