FISHING REPORT LAKE MURRAY Bream: Very good. Shellcracker fishing is very strong in 4-10 feet of water off points using nightcrawlers. If fish are not quickly located move to another spot. Bluegill are holding around docks and can be caught on worms and crickets.

Striped bass: Fair to good. Striper are still mostly found from the dam to Shull Island, and the ma-

jority of fish are being caught from the surface down to 40 feet of water.

There is good topwater action at times, and standard topwater lures, Striper Delights trailed by a small spoon, and free lined live herring are all working well. For deeper fish down lined herring are the best choice.

Catfish: Fair to good.

Murray catfish seem to be moving into a fall pattern a little early. Some fish (99%

channels) can still be caught shallower in the 5-20 foot range, but blues are also being caught deeper in the 20-40 foot range.

The most consistent pattern is anchoring on points and humps in the main lake, but the drift is also producing some bites. Cut herring, white perch, shrimp and dip baits are all working equally as well.

Art program helps cancer patients, survivors cope, reflect nosed in 1999 with breast cancer and again in 2012 with ovarian cancer.

"Art is fun," McDonald said. "I first went for the art, but then I found out it was so much more. It's tremendous healing."

The two-time cancer survivor said she's been surprised by what she's produced in the program.

"It reveals what's inside of you without you even knowing it was in there," McDonald said.

Healing Icons founder and instructor Heidi Darr-Hope might have started the modern program in 1995, but the journey to get there began in the mid-80s, she said.

"Art is a way to understand my life, so I decided I wanted to teach that way," DarrHope said. "I sat down and started to write down ideas about how I would teach that."

The concept kept developing until DarrHope needed to decide who she would teach. A friend of hers

Very few things can shake a person to the core like being diagnosed with cancer.

As if the disease and its thousands of forms aren't bad enough, the doubts, the fear, the anger and the pain can drive a person mad.

But while many lose themselves in the whirlwind of emotions, you typically won't find much negativity in participants of a program at Lexington Medical Center.

Started in 1995, Healing Icons has helped hundreds of cancer patients, survivors and relatives of those who succumbed to the disease by introducing them to or exploring their artistic side.

"We both got so much out of it," said Evelyn Anderson of herself and her daughter, Jill Revis, who died of colon cancer in July. "She came to all of them until the very last one. It was very important to both of us. It's been tremendous to me, as well. I never knew how artistic I was."

After her daughter's passing, Anderson said the comforting element of art therapy did wonders for her mind.

"It gives you such a calming feeling," Anderson said. "Words can't express how much it's benefited me. It helps you express all your emotions through the art."

Dempsey-Robinson, an art teacher at Michael's in the Harbison area, discovered Healing Icons shortly after she was diagnosed.

She immediately knew she wanted to be a part of it.

"It's spontaneous, and it really helps you process all

suggested the cancer population, and that was what she chose. Seeing "It's the best gift in the world," she said. "The majority of the world doesn't get art. To be able to teach art in this way is such a gift."

As for those condsidering the program, DarrHope suggest they drop their timidness and "come on."

"Jump in," she said.

"Do it. (Most) people who come here know they need something, but they don't want a traditional support group. It's a support group in a different way ... we're creating something that's never existed before that is a reflection of who we are as a person. We get to talk about that.

"We're not talking about cancer as much as we are the experiences of our lives, cancer being one of them."

It’s a Dog’s Life

Duck Work A duck walks into a bar and asks for a beer. In amazement, the bartender exclames, “HEY. you can talk!”

“Yes, I do. So what?” asks the duck as he flies up to the stool.

The bartender asks what else the duck does.

“I work across the street doing construction on the new building going up, and I’d like to come here during lunch to have a beer once in a while.”

The bartender says that it would be fine with him, so the duck comes in day after day during lunch for a brew.

Then one day the circus comes to town and the ringmaster comes into the same bar, but he’s there earlier than the duck’s usual time.

The bartender finds out this guy is the ringmaster of a big circus and says: “Hey, you ought to check out this talking duck that comes in for a beer everyday around lunchtime!”

“Really?” Asks the Ringmaster. “I could sure use one of those. Tell the duck that if he wants to make a lot more money than he makes now, to come by and see me.” Then, after drinking his beer, the ringmaster

leaves the bar and heads back to work.

So the duck comes in to the bar that day at lunch, and the bartender jumps up and tells the duck the good news.

“Hey, the circus is in town and their ringmaster wants you to be part of their circus for MORE BUCKS than you’re getting now!!”

The duck says, “Wow, that’s great! But is it that big event down at the fairgrounds with the high-top deal?”

Bartender says “Yeah, so what?”

The duck cocks his head and inquires further, “It’s that event with the CANVAS tent, right?

Bartender asks, “Yeah, so?”

“Well, what the heck does he want with a drywall worker?”

Car Pool Issues A man learned shortly before quitting time that he had to attend a meeting. He tried unsuccessfully to locate his car-pool members to let them know that he would not be leaving with them.

Hastily he scribbled a message to one fellow and left it on his desk: “I have a last-minute meeting. Leave

without me. Dave.”

At 7:00 p.m., the man stopped at his desk and found this note: “Meet us at the bar and grill across the street. You drove.”

“Applicant asked to see interviewer’s resume to see if the personnel executive was qualified to judge the candidate.”

“Applicant announced she hadn’t had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and french fries in the interviewer’s office wiping the ketchup on her sleeve.”

“Stated that, if he were hired, he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed

“Interrupted to phone his therapist for advice on answering specific interview questions.”

“When I asked him about his hobbies, he stood up and started tap dancing around my office.”

“At the end of the interview, while I stood there dumbstruck, he went through my purse, took out a brush, brushed his hair, and left.”

“Applicant pulled out a Polaroid camera and snapped a flash picture of me. Said he collected photos of everyone who interviewed him.”

“Said he wasn’t interested because the position paid too much.”

“During the interview, an alarm clock went off from the candidate’s briefcase.

He took it out, shut it off, apologized and said he had to leave for another interview.”

“A telephone call came in for the job applicant. It was from his wife. His side of the conversation went like this: “Which company?
