AUSTRALIAN SPIDER MUSEUM | 22 Charles St, Forest Lodge The project began with an analysis of the site at a sequence of scales, the broader context of the city and its relationship to the proposal was analysed through Bernard Tschumi’s method of mapping, focusing on the ideas of conflict, indifference, and reciprocity. The allocation of the site on Charles Street required the museum to be placed underground. This created a low lighting condition that emphasised the importanced of the other senses to experience the museum. Using hardwood timber floorboards to highlight the sound of visitors’ footsteps reciprocated the fear and discomfort associated with spiders’ feet and their rapid leg movements. The undulating floor allowed for various viewports in the vertical plane, which created moments of optimum viewing through the domed perspex spider habitats. The undulating floor plates also act as seating areas for viewers to lounge and slow down, conflicting the idea of the fast moving arachnids. A map of the Architectural Association depicting the connection between the projects, ideas, protagonists and events that construct the intellectual history of the institution. The map focuses on the publications of the Archigram group which were produced by graduates of the AA: Peter Cook, Michael Webb, Ron Herron, David Green, Warren Chalk and Dennis Crompton. Although Archigram influenced some built projects such as the Pompidou Centre by Piano + Rogers and Nicholas Grimshaw’s Service Tower, its main influence was over architectural discourse. The Archigram Magazine was powerful because it was timeless and discussion around it was instantaneous due to its ability to be produced and distributed immediately. The Euphrates River plays a significant role in irrigation and water supply in both Syria and Iraq. The consecutive attacks in the Ar Raqqa region directly impact the sanitation of the river. The cultivated lands in the Ar Raqqa region of Syria for 2012 - 2015. Positive values indicate cultivated lands with higher productivity while negative values indicate lower productivity as compared to pre-conflict times in both Syria and Iraq. This degradation was a direct result of the warfare in the region as it led to the displacement of farmers. THE CULTIVATED LANDS IN THE AR RAQQA REGION OF SYRIA FOR YEARS 2012–2015. POSITIVE VALUES INDICATE CULTIVATED LANDS WITH HIGHER AR PRODUCTIVITY WHILE NEGATIVE VALUES INDICATE LOWER PRODUCTIVITY AS COMPARED TO RAQQA PRE-CONFLICT MEANS IN BOTH SYRIA. AND IRAQ. THIS WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE WARFARE IN THE REGION AS IT LED TO THE DISPLACEMENT OF FARMERS AND THE DISRUPTION IN SUPPLIES OF SUBSIZED INPUT FACTORS. ALTHOUGH THE DROUGHT OF 2014 IMPACTED THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE, THE AFFECT IN AR RAQQA WASNT AS SIGNIFICANT, HENCE INDICATING THAT THE DROP IN AGRICULTUAL LEVELS WAS DUE TO THE CONFLICT IN THE REGION RATHER THAN THE DROP IN RAINFALL LEVELS.

By identifying a flood zone along the Euphrates River, located in close proximity to the former agricultural lands of the region of Ar Raqqa, an opportunity for intervention was found. Using the natural hydrological formation of the land, an artificial wetland will be constructed by diverting the flow of the river into the selected floodzone. How are different aspects of common living translated in the architecture of today? What is the future of common living that we communicated through the exhibition?”.
