THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Lake Forest Academy is an independent, co-educational, 9-12 college-preparatory school for boarding and day students located on 150 acres in the Chicago suburb of Lake Forest. The Academy prepares its students to become responsible citizens in a pluralistic, global society characterized by increased technological complexity. At the same time, the school remains rooted in traditional values–integrity, honesty, hard work, and respect for the ideas and property of others. LFA complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice, including disciplinary reporting.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Lake Forest Academy’s rigorous academic program is designed to meet the various intellectual needs, skills, and maturity of its students. LFA offers advanced level work in the natural sciences, foreign languages, and mathematics, as well as 21 AP courses. Admission to advanced level and AP courses is decided by the appropriate department based on a student’s ability and success in previous coursework. LFA supports interested, qualified, and mature students by providing independent study beyond LFA course offerings.

EXPLANATION OF TRANSCRIPT

Psychology is considered a science elective. The French and Spanish Language Culture courses culminate in a service learning trip to a country where students are immersed in the native language. 1/4 credit is awarded to students for completion of a semester-long Independent Study.

GRADING SYSTEM LFA uses standard letter grades from A ‑ F on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Plusses and minuses may be attached for grades A ‑ D. Grades are not weighted in the calculation of the GPA. Due to the small class size of each graduating class, Lake Forest Academy does not rank its students.
