Lake Forest Academy is an independent, co-educational, 9-12 college-preparatory school for boarding and day students located on 150 acres in the Chicago suburb of Lake Forest.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Lake Forest Academy’s rigorous academic program is designed to meet the various intellectual needs, skills, and maturity of its students. LFA offers advanced level work in the natural sciences, foreign languages, and mathematics, as well as 21 AP courses.

Admission to advanced level and AP courses is decided by the appropriate department based on a student’s ability and success in previous coursework. LFA supports interested, qualified, and mature students by providing independent study beyond LFA course offerings.

EXPLANATION OF TRANSCRIPT

Psychology is considered a science elective. The French and Spanish Language Culture courses culminate in a service learning trip to a country where students are immersed in the native language. 1/4 credit is awarded to students for completion of a semester-long Independent Study. Last spring, LFA made the decision to move away from awarding Final Grades.

GRADING SYSTEM LFA uses standard letter grades from A ‑ F on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Plusses and minuses may be attached for grades A ‑ D. Grades are not weighted in the calculation of the GPA. Due to the small class size of each graduating class, Lake Forest Academy does not rank its students.

n Given our clear institutional belief in expanding our students’

world views, 78 students travelled abroad on LFA-sponsored

trips last year. n By undertaking independent studies ranging in topics from

Constitutional Law to Econometrics to language study in

Portuguese and Korean, LFA students have become more

and more emboldened to pursue their intellectual interests

and passions. We believe this aligns with our college prep over college placement philosophy! n A state of the art, 9 million dollar, 34,000 square ft, Student

Union opened in August, 2016. Offices on the first floor will

house the new Stuart Center of Global Leadership for

students interested in global travel and leadership

opportunities abroad.
