LFA’S GRADING SYSTEM + CURRICULUM n Due to the small class size of each graduating class, Lake Forest Academy does not rank its students. n LFA uses letter grades from A - F on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Grades A - D may have pluses and minuses. n Admission to advanced level and AP courses is decided by the appropriate department based on a student’s ability and success in previous coursework. n After exhausting current course offerings, upperclassmen may elect to pursue independent studies ranging from Software and Hardware Integration to Kinesiology. One semester of Independent Study equals a 1/4 credit. n Psychology is considered a science elective. n Students in the French and Spanish Language Culture courses culminate in service trips to become immersed in the native language.

CAMPUS NEWS n José De Jesús begins his second year as LFA’s Head of School. n The majority of LFA’s students started in-person learning on August 24, 2020. Unfortunately, many of our international students were unable to return to campus at the start of the 20-21 school year and will be learning remotely. Our normal letter grading policy will be implemented for this academic year for both in-person and remote learning classes. n After Spring Break, LFA transitioned to remote learning on April 1, 2020. Classes were held in synchronous fashion and followed the usual daily schedule; lectures and discussions were recorded for students who were studying in different time zones. Students received standard grades, but their grades could not go down as long as they completed their coursework to their instructor’s satisfaction.
