Language Immersion Camps Run by experienced native teachers, our World Camp is built on decades of academic excellence and expertise in developing effective language immersion programs. Campers experience the culture and advance their language skills through activities such as singing, cooking, arts, science projects, dance, theater, and more. Camp Bienvenue Run by our own maternelles teachers and assistant teachers, this camp is the perfect introduction to school for future lycée students entering in pre-k in September. Includes cooking, crafts, Music with Madame Julie, and in-school field trips… All in French! Students are divided by age, friendships and language abilities. Les Explorateurs Run by experienced lycée teachers and native speakers, this very active camp includes one-weekly field trip every Tuesday and one weekly outing to the beach. Specific activities allow students of all levels of French to equally benefit from the camp. Sports, games, theater, crafts, choir and many more activities are offered. All in French. AGE 9–13

Les Aventuriers Students leave school every morning for a day of summer adventures in the city. Campers age 9 to 13 learn autonomy and expand their vocabulary through very unique themes: Learn the truths and legends behind the great Chicago fire, ride your bike and learn how to fix it, spend a week kayaking on the Chicago river and lagoons, and boating or swimming in Lake Michigan, learn essential survival skills and participate in orientation races. Vocabulary acquisition comes from daily encounters and situations. These very active camps will put campers in unique situations, getting them to encounter and learn dozens of new words daily. A full week of city adventures in French for grades 4 to 7 students with daily field trips. Lunch is included.

Les Aventuriers

City adventure #1 – Chicago Before the Fire The first of a 2-weeks Chicago history series (each week can be taken independently), this active camp will focus on Chicago history before the fire and will culminate in a two-days study of the truths, myths and legends behind the Great Fire of 1871. City adventure #2 – Chicago After the Fire The second of a 2-weeks Chicago history series , this active camp will focus on the great rebuilding after the great fire of 1871, with a hands-on approach of modern architecture, as well as activities around the World Exhibits, Al Capone and the prohibition years, and the modern Chicago. City adventure #3 – Chicago by Bike Bike along the lake or in the forest preserve, stop by the lily pond, go to a museum by bike, stop for a swim in the lake or a game of beach volley. Campers will also learn how to change a flat tire and do basic repairs to their bike with bike mechanics. 16

City adventure #4 – Chicago by Water Lake Michigan, Chicago River, Forest preserve lagoons... water is everywhere and your child will take full advantage of it. This active camp will include kayaking, boating and other water sports, as well as technology and engineering: reversal of the Chicago River, how is water treated today in Chicago, City water stations, etc. City adventure #5 – The Survival Week This survival camp is all about developing autonomy. How did the first settlers made it through the Chicago winters: Experiment archery, knitting, cooking, fishing, learn how to make a variety of knots, use a compass, build outdoor structures or make a fire. Participate in relays and orientation races. City adventure #6 – Chicago Underground Underground can mean many things. In this camp, you will learn about the technology and equipment that is beneath our feet, but also about the history of the Chicago Blues, Al Capone, what makes Chicago the Windy City. Register Now

Back to French Camps Back to French pour les tout-petits (Age 4–5) After weeks or months without hearing or using French as much, this August camp run by lycée teachers comes at the perfect time to get ready for school. Fun activities throughout the week, plus one field trip day and one beach day. All in French. Da Rocking Book Club A book club that is as much about music as it is about reading. This camp is for good English readers who have a passion for books and music, and want to share it with others. All books proposed are adapted to the age and reading level of the child, and all tell a story with a strong musical component. Join Lycée English teacher and Band musician William Kenny in this rocking reading adventure that will include book reading and music listening time, crafts and games based on the stories told, a weekly trip and beach day, as well as daily outings. Arabic Language & Cultures By the Turath Institute for Arab Arts and Culture This innovative summer camp is unique in Chicago and the perfect setting for your children to start to learn and explore the Arab culture! The camp is an amazing cultural adventure guided by an experienced and dynamic native speaker instructor, who, in addition to the Arabic language, will offer a wide variety of educational and cultural-based activities such as songs, games, cooking, and story-telling in an enjoyable and creative environment. Specialty Camps In August, the Lycée Français offers lycée and non lycée students alike a host of specialty camps taught in English by partner organizations selected for the quality of their programs. Our partners include organizations such as Mad Science, Mind Body Soccer, Play-well Teknologies, The Kids Table or 3Points Athletics, as well as highly skilled instructors such as lycée maths teacher Frederic Mahieu, popular dance teacher Jessica Grocott, World renowned Musician Isabelle Olivier or Choreographer and Stage Director Caryn Ott.

Summer Dance Register for these unique afternoon camps with after-school dance teacher Jessica Grocott. Register for morning soccer camps to make it a full day of camp. Transportation and lunch supervised by our own staff. Princes & Princesses: August 4–8 Explore dance through creative movement, ballet, and tap. All dancers are encouraged to dress in their favorite prince or princess costume. Fun crafts projects are proposed in between dance classes. On the final day of camp, the dancers cordially invite their parents for an informal showing.

Creativity Camp A bilingual camp focusing on developing creativity and expression through dance, music, crafts, and storytelling. Summer Cooking Camp Developed especially for World Camp by The Kids Table. With the guidance of a chef instructor, students will chop, grate and roll their way through healthy and delicious recipes each day. Students will also get to explore the culinary world outside LFC’s doors with field trips to cool spots like farmers’ markets, community gardens and food pantries. A unique experience, a different way to discover the city, and a chance to gain lifelong skills. Lunch is included.

Express Yourself Five senses… Five ways to see, hear, feel, smell and taste the World.

Campers age 13–18 join world renowned harpist Isabelle Olivier (www.isabelleolivier.com) and choreographer/stage director Caryn Ott in a bilingual camp that will celebrate life, freedom, creativity… and the many ways that we have to express ourselves. Engineering with Legos® By Playwell Teknologies Robotics using LEGO® NXT (Age 8­–12) Build and program robots using the LEGO® Mindstorms NXT system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups, program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Moving with Science By Mad Science Mad Science invites you to explore how things move with science. Take apart pellets to see what an owl cannot digest! View the world through a camera obscura that you make yourself. Join a team of camper engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes and pyramids. Extended day options Our before and after-camp programs are supervised by a team of talented instructors and camp counselors. Students are divided per age group in small group sections. After camp activities include a choice of dance and art classes, a construction building area as well as a space for relaxing, drawing or reading.
