Les Aventuriers

June 20-July 1: Chicago Art Campers will visit concert venues, artist workshops, local museums, music schools and shops. They will interview local artists and get to discover and experience multiple forms of art. They will be challenged to look for art everywhere around them, and will report on their day in French. A day at the waterpark, beach time and artistic treasure hunts will complete their schedule. All in French!

July 5-15: The World of Comics, Mangas & Bande dessinĂŠe In the United States, Comics, Superheroes and the world of Marvel lead the way, while Japan has become famous for its Mangas and Animes culture. In Europe, Bande dessinee (or graphic novels) have become a highly considered literary art. All have in common worlds filled with creativity, imaginary lands and talented artists. Our campers will visit libraries and museums, but will also spend time outside reading, drawing and exchanging opinions in French. They will be introduced to new authors and genres, and there will be time for cosplay and group productions. Books in the classroom will be available in French and English.

July 18-29: World Fairs: Imagining the Future World Fairs had a lasting impact on Paris and on Chicago. Looking back, campers will discover little known facts, fascinating stories and personalities, and visit the site of the Columbian fair of 1883. Yet, this camp is not about the past. World Fairs imagine the future, and this will be the theme of this very creative camp. As a group, through daily encounters and field trips, campers will be constantly challenged to imagine the future. They will report on their day in French, in the most creative way that they can imagine.

August 1-12: Active Chicago For this very active camp, you will need a bike and a helmet, walking shoes, and a swimsuit. Kayaking on the river, sailing on Lake Michigan, hiking along the lake or through local neighborhoods, campers will discover or rediscover our city and write about it in French for our summer blog.

Fairy Tales Magic (age 4–5) Once upon a time in a magical far-away theatre camp, children set out to explore the fascinating world of fairy tales. They used their voices, bodies, and imaginations to bring classic fairy tales to life, learning about conflict, character, setting, and even story structure. They all worked together to defeat the villains of the forest and create new tales of their own that they would tell over and over again. On the last day of their camp, grown-ups came from far and wide to witness the children’s fairy tale adventures, and they were amazed! And, of course, they all lived happily ever after.
