About the Lycée Lycée Français de Chicago is a private, not-for-profit, coeducational day school serving over 700 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The Lycée Français de Chicago prepares students to be responsible global citizens by providing a dynamic dual language, bicultural education that focuses on excellence through the French National Curriculum complemented by a strong English Language Arts and American Studies program. Our multicultural, dual-language curriculum brings together the best of the French and American education systems. It not only enhances our students’ interpersonal, communication, and academic skills, it also helps them distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive world. The Lycée belongs to the renowned worldwide French school system, which ensures the consistency and cohesiveness of its curriculum. Created in 1995 to fill the needs of the French-speaking community in the Midwest and of pioneer American families, the Lycée provides today a compelling educational experience for the broader Chicago Community and contributes to the widespread recognition of Chicago as an international, multicultural city. In 2015, LFC will move into its new Ravenswood Campus.
WELCOMING CLASS LFC welcomes non-French-speaking students until 5th grade. Students entering in grades 1 through 5 are placed in a welcoming class where they will receive an intensive education in French before integrating their regular classroom.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE The Lycée Français de Chicago is an IB World School authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. In grade 9 and 10, the Lycée offers a rigorous curriculum with the goal to prepare students to undertake the IB Diploma, a rigorous and renowned high school honors curriculum. Both programs are delivered in English, and no previous knowledge of French is required. The IB program offers students a highly academic, culturally diverse and personally fulfilling education – one that prepares students to enter top colleges and universities and to compete in today’s fast-changing, global age. About World Camp Our World Camp is open to Lycée students and non-Lycée students alike and welcome speakers of all levels of fluency. We propose language immersion day camps in French, but also in Arabic, German and Mandarin Chinese thanks to partnerships with other schools and organizations recognized for their expertise. These partnerships bring energy to our camps, help create new friendships, and make World Camp a truly international experience. With camps supervised by teachers or other uniquely qualified personnel, our language immersion camps are meant to be fun, educational and tailored to the individual needs of each student. The theme of this year is Around the World in 30 days – Discovering the World’s continents. Going from global to local, our students will also help grow our own Flower & Vegetables Garden this summer. World Camp also offers a host of other programs taught in English or French, including soccer, Basketball, Lego engineering, Mad Science, Summer Dance, Mathematics, Musical Theater or Creativity camps.

Our Partners To propose a truly professional language immersion program in various languages, we have built partnerships with local organizations offering year-round immersion programs in German, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic. All campers usually attend the same field trips and Beach day.
THE GERMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CHICAGO (GISC) GISC is an independent, not-for-profit, dual-language school with the curriculum mainly taught in German and a multi-cultural approach. Two camps are being offered: Die Forscher (4–5) and Die Abenteurer (6–10). These great Summer programs are offered for the 7th consecutive year at Lycée Français. CHINAFRIENDS China Friends teaches Mandarin Chinese to children 18 months and up as well as adults. Two camps opened to students age 4–6 and 7–10 provide students with a foundation for future learning, and cultivate their long-term interest in the language, culture and traditions of China. TURATH INSTITUTE OF ARAB ARTS AND CULTURE Organized in partnership with Turath Institute for Arab Arts and Culture in Chicago, this two-weeks summer camp is run by experienced native Arabic teachers. It is the perfect setting for your children to learn Arabic and explore its rich culture in a fun and interactive environment. The two-week camp includes a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as arts, cooking and many others; all aiming to promote Arabic culture and language learning. Communication • Camp supervisors will usually communicate with you by email. They will send you a weekly schedule of activities as well as other useful information related to field trips or daily activities. • You will have the opportunity to meet with your camp supervisor the first day of every new session between 8:00 and 8:45am. • Every day at pick-up time (3:00pm), your camp supervisor will be the one handing your child over to you. Do not hesitate to ask them questions at that time. • We are encouraging a direct and open communication between parents and teachers. Please feel free to contact directly your camp supervisor with any question or concern. • Camp administrators are here for you. Do not hesitate to contact us with any concern or comment. To protect the privacy of our campers, a password will be sent to you in a separate email.

Health & Safety Ensuring the safety of our campers is our priority. In addition to offering professional supervision by experimented teachers and an excellent ratio of 1 adult per 4 to 6 students, the following steps are being taken:
STAFF TRAINING • Camps are supervised by experimented teachers who work closely with camp counselors to ensure a constant supervision of all students in all circumstances. • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification classes are offered to our staff. • All camp supervisors and camp counselors receive a summer camp guide with all our safety policies (fire alarm, allergies, lockdown procedures, etc.) • These policies are reminded in all staff meetings run by the director of the camp.
WATER SAFETY The choice of our water locations is all about safety. The Waterpark in Highland Park is extremely well run, and Montrose beach offers shallow water. • Children are tested on first day at water park and their access to various areas is limited based on a color coding system. For students age 5 and younger, we have chosen to not be tested but have all students limited to the safest/most restricted part of the pool. • 1/4 to 1/5 counselor per student ratio. • At the beach, Life Guards are on duty and campers are allowed in shallow water only.
FIRST AID KIT A first aid/emergency kit is prepared for every camp by our school nurse. Camp supervisors are taking this kit with them everywhere they go. This kit includes: • First Aid Material, Emergency Forms & Medical Forms • Personal first-aid items (personal epi-pen or medicine brought by student) • Allergies safes with emergencies epi-pen are located throughout the school • Our health policies are available on our website at http://www.lyceechicago.org/student_life/school_nurse/

Values & Behavior We expect all students participating in our camps to behave in a way that is conform to our values and policies.

BEHAVIOUR / DISCIPLINE Children enrolled in our program are expected to be well behaved, polite to their fellow campers, counselors, and other camp or school personnel, and to respect the property of others and the school. For their own safety, campers are expected to be with their assigned camp groups at all times, and to follow instructions. Recurring behavioral problems will be reported by the camp supervisor to the parents and to the camp director. At that point, the camp director may call for a meeting with the parents, the teacher and the camper. Lycée Français reserves the right to deny a camper the opportunity to participate in camp if the child’s social conduct or behavior is deemed unacceptable or posing danger to himself/herself or others. The decision to exclude a child is taken by the camp director, with the approval of the school president.
TARDINESS & ABSENCES To report an absence or a late arrival, please inform us by e-mail sent to your camp supervisor, with copy to afterschool@lyceechicago.org. Please note that children are expected to arrive at camp no later than 9:00am. In case of tardiness, please take your child to the front desk. Such an occurrence must remain exceptional. On field trip days, students arriving after the departure of the group will not be accepted at camp that day.

• Before camp starts at 8:00am. Families who have registered their child for this program must park in the parking lot, enter the building through the grey door entrance and go to the Irving Park Hall entrance where we will welcome your child in the corresponding classroom. • To facilitate supervision, we are asking parents not to enter in the high-school hallway. So that students are always with an adult that they know, all camp assistants arrive at 8:00am in the morning.
REGULAR DROP-OFF One single drop-off location (Irving Park Hall) for all camps except Camp Bienvenue. We will be welcoming campers in the Irving Park Hall between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. Before 8:45am, we will only accept students registered for the before-camp program. Camp supervisors will be available starting at 08:45am every day. On the first day of every new session, we have an all staff meeting at 7:45am. After that meeting, teachers will be available between 8:00am and 8:45am if you would like to meet with them, introduce your child and ask any question that you may have before the start of the camp. For safety reasons, please note that parents and anyone who is not part of the staff are not allowed passed the check-in point at the entrance of the high-school hallway. Thank you for your cooperation. If you are driving, please park and enter the building through the gray door entrance. Please be always very cautious when walking in the parking lot. If you are coming by foot, you can also enter the building through the Irving Park entrance. Drop-off will take place in the Irving Park Hall. This Hall is located between the Gray door entrance and the Irving Park Hall entrance, by the guards’ station. 14
REGULAR PICK-UP General rules Children that are not registered in after-camp will be ready to leave camp at 3:00 p.m., and must be picked-up by 03:15pm at the latest. Pick-up will always be done by foot. If you are driving, please park in our parking lot. Camp supervisors will welcome parents and ask for an ID. After verifying that the person picking-up has been authorized to do so, camp supervisors will call your child.

This program is open all summer to all campers. June 23rd thru August 1st, it includes a choice of the following activities : • Dance classes (Ballet, Zumba, Hip-hop, etc.) with Ms Jessica Grocott, • The artist’s corner (Arts & Crafts) • The builder’s corner (building games, legos, crafts) • Sports and games at playground • Gardening. To pick-up your child, please enter the school through the gray door entrance and go to room 110 where we will tell you in which class/activity you can find and pick-up your child. Please be prepared to show your ID at this time. After your identity has been checked, we will give you a pass that will allow you to pick-up your child.

Pick-up & Drop off for Camp Bienvenue CAMP BIENVENUE Age 3–4 – Morning only Our youngest campers can be as young as 30 months old, and their first day of camp is often their first day away from their parents and/or regular caregiver. To facilitate this transition, we have setup a separate drop-off and pick-up system, giving them their own private entrance/exit to the school.
Drop off We will be welcoming our youngest campers at the Blue door entrance between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. While parents are usually asked to leave their child at the door, we make an exception for the first day of camp. Every Monday, parents can take their child to the classroom. We are however asking you to leave before 9:05 so that children can get started with their first activity, a singing class with Madame Julie. If you choose to take your child to the classroom on that first day, please make sure to stop by the front desk and ask for a visitor pass before entering the school. This also applies in case of tardiness. Before camp with Ms Mayra is also available starting at 8:00am. Camp ends at 12:00pm and no after-camp option is available.
Pick-up Children will be waiting for you in front on the blue door at 12:00 p.m. with their camp supervisor (Nadine or Jacqueline). Your camp supervisor will ID anyone coming to pick-up a child and will verify that you are a parent or another person authorized to pick-up.

Transportation for our Tuesday field trips is provided by Ron Transportation, a company specialized in school trips. Under appropriate supervision, older campers may use cabs or the CTA during the course of the week. The Lycée mini-van may be used for trips to the beach or to other locations. All students and all staff members must wear their summer camp T-shirt on field trip days.
FRIDAYS AT THE BEACH with BBQ provided by Green Monkey Catering Every Friday for all full-day campers All camps except Camp Bienvenue go to Montrose Beach every Friday for a day at the beach. Please make sure to apply sunscreen on your child in the morning, and leave a bottle in his/her bag. Water is shallow, and swimming is supervised by lifeguards. We are providing pales, rakes and other beach toys, and many fun activities are organized throughout the day. While students in grades 1 and up walk to the beach and back, pre-k to k students get a ride in the lycée mini-van. This mini-van is driven by Lycée personnel. Red wagons are a great help for these trips outside with little ones. If you have one available for us to use while your child is at camp, we will gladly use it. If that is the case, please let us know by sending an email to afterschool@lyceechicago.org.

Meals & Snacks WHAT IS PROVIDED: Snacks Morning snacks are provided each day for all campers. Snacks are also provided to those children that stay for the after-camp program. All snacks are nuts free.
Lunches (June 23-August 1) Disposable Lunch Boxes are provided Monday through Friday by Green Monkey catering, an organic food catering program which sources its food ingredients through partnerships with local food farmers in the Chicagoland area. This includes field trip days. Lunches are included in the price and are mandatory. Please do not send your child with own lunch. All lunches are nuts free and pork free. Every Friday, Green Monkey Catering is offering a barbeque at the beach. Lunches are included in the camp fees. Please note that various menu options (vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free) are available upon request. There is no lunch service for any camp offered after August 1st. Students registered for a full-day program must bring their lunch after that date.
WHAT IS NOT PROVIDED: Water bottle Keeping well hydrated is essential during hot summer days. To help us accomplish this goal while being mindful of our environment, please provide your child with a refillable water bottle. Water fountains will be available for refills in each classroom.
ALLERGIES AND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS For children with very serious allergies or strict dietary restrictions, we are allowing parents to pack their own lunch and/or snacks. This is an exception that must be requested by a doctor in the form of an Individual Health Plan form signed by a doctor; this form must be returned to the camp administration. Your child’s teacher will make sure that camp counselors on their team are informed of the situation. If your child has severe allergies, we ask you to please make sure that any allergies or dietary restrictions have been listed online at the time of registration and we recommend that you give us a call at 773–665–0066, x79 before June 15 to discuss a plan of action with our school nurse. Our school uses a color coding system. Children with severe food allergies will be indicated in red on the rosters that we are distributing to our staff. Epi-pen boxes that include two epi-pens of different strength are located throughout the school in our hallways. 19

What to Wear/Bring WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? No uniform is required. Please send your child to camp with comfortable shoes for running and playing outside, and with the clothes of his/her choice. Please note however that campers must wear their yellow LFC Summer camp T-shirt every Tuesday (field trip day). On Fridays, yellow t-shirts are recommended but we make exceptions for students wearing aqua-shirts that protect from sunrays. On water park and beach days, children must come to camp wearing their swimsuit underneath their clothes. Please also be sure to thoroughly apply sunscreen before heading to camp every day, and on these days in particular. On beach days, you may also chose that your child wears an aqua-shirt to avoid over exposure to sun.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING? At the beginning of camp, please pack a bag (will be returned on the last day of camp) with the following items: • A change of clothes • A plastic cup • An extra pair of shoes (not mandatory)
Please also pack a bag daily that will include: • Sunscreen • Hat • Water bottle • A towel and a pair of underwear on water park and beach days (so that children can change afterwards) • Any other item that your camp supervisor may request • Camp Supervisors are likely to add items to this list based on age (blanket, nap time friends) or activities (e.g. bike camp). They will inform you by e-mail of any additional request.

Soccer Camps Parents are asked to drop off their children on site at Montrose Harbor Parkway between 8:50am and 9:00 a.m. Pick-up will take place at the same location at the end of the day (12:00pm or 3:00pm). Parents or authorized persons must bring their ID.

IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER June 23–27 Camp will move indoor to the gymnasium at LycÊe Francais, 613 W Bittersweet place, Chicago, IL 60613. In that case, drop-off and pick-up will take place at the blue door entrance.
In August Camp will move indoor to the gymnasium at Gill Park, 825 W Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60613. In that case, pick-up and drop-off will take place inside the Gill Park gymnasium.

Soccer Camps (continued) EQUIPMENT NEEDED Please come with proper attire: • Shin-guards, hat, sunscreen (please apply sunscreen before leaving your house) • Water and Snacks (no nuts) + Lunch for full-day campers • Outdoor soccer shoes are recommended for students 6 and up. AFTER-CAMP Campers registered in the full day program can register for after camp (3:00pm to 5:30pm). Students will be driven back from Montrose Harbor to the lycée campus with our school mini-van. After-camp will take place in room 120 and it is offered every week when soccer camps are in session.
Mini-kickers (1/2 day): August 4–8 and August 11–15 Turn your half day camp into a full-day by registering for Summer Dance Campers registered for both mini-kickers in the morning and Summer Dance in the afternoon will be driven back from Montrose Harbor to the lycée campus with our school mini-van at 11:50am. Students will eat lunch between 12:00 and 12:30pm. Summer Dance camps run from 12:30 to 3:30pm, with after-camp available until 5:30pm.
Basketball Camps Basketball camps run from 4:00pm to 6:00pm every evening. Pick-up and drop-off is taking place directly in the Lycée gymnasium. Water is available on-site. Snacks are not provided for these camps. However, students joining this camp in the evening after a day at camp will receive a snack in the after-camp program at 3:15pm. Students must wear sports clothing and basketball shoes. 25
