RAW Privileges Holiday Greetings from Joe Luccioni, LGRAW President What a year it has been. RAW is seventeen years old and not showing any sign of old age. Sorry, I can't say the same for Alan "7:10" Engisch and yours truly who celebrated our 75th birthdays a few months ago. But don't feel sorry for us, we wake up every morning thanking the good Lord for another sunrise. January was greeted with the Bold in the Cold club race and co-race directors Sakina Vidacak and Julie Smith did an excellent job directing the race. Our old friend the oak tree which shaded us for all these many years finally had to be cut down and replaced by a pergola built under the supervision of Dubravko Vidacak, better known as "D". The annual Luau hosted by Tom Shetina and Kimberly Kay in their new home was a huge success and everyone had a great time. Our annual fall trip to the Palo Duro Canyon Trail Run along with 40 of our fellow members who participated in the 20K,

Footnotes Speedy Recovery To Marty Metzger Congratulations To Marybeth Crane and Art Atchison on their engagement To Debbie and Tim Yatko on the recent birth of their daughter Cecilia. To Laura Nelson and Denny Maietta on the recent birth of their grand daughter, Milani Laurita Wright. Thank you To all RAW water duty volunteers who take just a few minutes of their time to stock the course with cool water and Gatorade EVERY Saturday and Sunday! Without your kindness, there would be A LOT of thirsty RAW runners on the course! Lost & Found Left something at the clubhouse? Check to see if we found it. All unclaimed items are in the clear tote along the north wall of the clubhouse (just outside the bathroom).

50K or the 50 miler had many surprises. Leana Sloan was first place masters in the 20K in 1:47:49, Belynda Warner and Kat Sparks finished their first 50K trail run, Russ Wedemeyer's first trail run and first ultra, placed third masters 50K in 5:01:52, and Jon "Polar Bear" Korte ran his first 50 miler capturing first place masters in 7:45. This was followed a week later by the annual Double Trouble race directed by Chris Morris whose efforts resulted in a record field and many rave reviews. Thanks Chris. There were many individual racing accomplishments during the year, but I want to mention two individuals who have had a great year. Michelle "Drum" Blackard won first place at Wichita Falls' Triple Threat Extreme Challenge. Seems like every weekend she PR'd in some event. Then she competed in the Chattanooga Iron man finishing in 12:24:07. At the same Iron Man competition John "Stude" Studebaker posted an unbelievable time of 10:04:43. Congratulations to all of you that never thought you could run and joined our club and have fulfilled your goals of just running or walking. Whatever the reason for joining welcome and keep up the great work. Finally, we say it all the time that this club would not survive without the volunteers, not only at our races, but everyday. Keeping the clubhouse clean, water duty on the weekends, trail clean up and volunteering at aid stations at local races. I particularly want to thank our board members for all the time they dedicate to the club. Here we are December 2014 getting ready to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child so I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and pray that 2015 will be a healthy and prosperous New Year. God Bless each and every one of you, our troops and God Bless America.

Volunteer for the Dallas Marathon Aid Station It can't be a awesome race without the support of awesome volunteers, and Dallas knows that the most awesome-ofthe-awesome volunteers come from LGRAW!

We have been accepted to host the water stop at the 7 mile mark and to make sure we do it right, we need 40 volunteers to step up and give back to the sport and the community. The race will take place on Sunday, December 14th. Our gracious aid station captain, Bridget Smith will be taking the lead and will provide more information as the event gets closer, but please email Bridget at fpt.bridge@gmail.com with your shirt size. Put on your RAW wear add some snazzy Christmas flare and we will see you there!

Recovery Run Breakfast Fun After you ring in the 2015 New Year, join your RAW family on Thursday, January 1st at 8:00 am for the annual Recovery Run with Breakfast fun! Run or walk the distance you choose then join in on a breakfast potluck. Bring a dish and beverage of your choice. The club will provide orange juice and water.

Volunteer for the Bold in the Cold 2015 Saturday, January 10th is our 17th annual Bold in the Cold 5K and 15K race, and it will be here before we know it! It takes a lot of help to put on a race like this and we need you! Even if you plan to run one of the races, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities before and after the event. Volunteer sign-up sheets are now posted in the clubhouse. This is a great opportunity to give back to the running community, meet fellow RAW members or for your teens to earn volunteer hours. Please take a moment and sign up at the clubhouse, or if you can't make it to the clubhouse, email Carol at caschumm@verizon.net to volunteer or with questions. Online registration for the race is open: http://www.lgraw.com/boldinthecold

Footprint Editing We hope you enjoy your monthly Footprint newsletter! Kathryn Gleghorn has served as a Footprint Assistant Editor, proofreading our newsletters for the past seven years. Kathryn has done an amazing job with our award winning newsletter and we thank her for all of her behind the scenes work! We are looking for two volunteers to assist with getting our newsletter ready for final copy. What does a Footprint proofreading editor do? After the content is added, the Footprint is reviewed to find and correct typographical errors and mistakes in grammar, style, and spelling. The Footprint is also reviewed for accuracy and up to date information. The editing is done right from home and requires approximately one hour per month. Once editing is complete, the Footprint is then moved onto the distribution phase. If you would like to volunteer, please email pr@lgraw.com.

In Step With..... In Step With Stan Pollard What's the history of your running "habit" - when did you start? How did you progress? I grew up in sports so I only knew how to run in speed bursts and never ran for any distance until later in my life. It wasn't until '07 and after I crashed into a fence and destroyed my shoulder that I considered running for distance. I got started when my sister encouraged me to do a 5K with her and the whole family after my surgery. I then went from doing 5Ks and struggling to doing 10Ks and struggling and just kept pushing myself to try higher distances just for the challenge that it brought me. Finally after about two years of running I finished my first half-marathon race and just last year finally finished my first of two marathons. Now I am thinking about doing the ultra-marathon. Not because I am a good runner but because I want to prove to myself that I can do it. What does running do for you now? Running allows me to get out and relax with me putting on my earbuds and just losing myself in the run. It has allowed me to meet new people and while I may not talk a lot during the runs I do enjoy their company. Running allowed me to challenge myself to "Go one step further than you reach things I never thought I could accomplish. thought you could." Stan Pollard How did you find RAW and when did you join? My friend, Diane Hernandez, introduced me to the club for their New Year's Day run in 2013. I joined a few weeks later.

What's your favorite place to run - local? - Anywhere? Locally my favorite spots are between Katy Trail and White Rock. Outside the DFW area I would say my favorite spot to run was in Chicago along Lake Michigan between the Navy Pier and the Museums out there. There is nothing like running with the water next to you the whole time and enjoying the awesomeness of downtown Chicago. What day in your running career would you like to live over again? I would say it would be between my first half-marathon in Chicago which was just an awesome trip all the way around or College Station last December for my first full marathon. Both of those races saw me accomplish something I never thought I would do just a few years earlier. What's your best advice for a newbie, or any runner for that matter? My best advice for newbies or any runner for that is to always force yourself to go one step further than you thought you could. Running is not something you just do. It is something that is learned and built into you over time and when you can get even one step further than your last run you can find yourself achieving more than you ever thought you could. Would you like to nominate someone to be featured for Giving Back or In Step With? Send us an email!

RRCA Kelly "K2" Richards, RRCA Director-at-Large

After serving as RRCA North Texas State Rep the past few years, Kathryn Gleghorn has decided to resign from this position. I want to personally thank Kathryn for all she's done to support and promote the RRCA in the massive area classified as North Texas. The newly appointed North Texas State Rep is Marcus Grunewald. Marcus has directed the Dallas Marathon for more than a decade, in addition to many other smaller races, is an RRCA Certified Coach, and an accomplished runner in his own right. The RRCA is excited to have him on board, especially with Dallas on tap to host the 2016 RRCA Convention. You can read his bio here at http://www.rrca.org/about/state-reps/texas/. As the year winds down to an end, it's time to submit nominations for the RRCA National Running Awards. Categories range from Road Race of Thank you Kathryn for your dedication. Pictured L-R the Year to Outstanding Volunteer of the Year to Excellence in Tony Flesch and Kathryn Gleghorn Journalism and many others. The criteria are listed on the webpage and anyone may submit a nomination. As I mentioned last month, the Kids Run the Nation grantees were selected and once again Texas has a grant recipient, Team Kids Café in Lubbock. The program serves a diverse population of 200 area children using a curriculum that presents running as a fun activity. The program emphasizes the importance of combining a healthy diet and physical activity as the critical steps to fight childhood obesity in the South Plains of Texas.
