Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers October 2015 Dear Lake Grapevine, The flood waters are finally gone, and it's time to prepare for fall and winter racing season. LGRAW's 16th Annual Double Trouble will be here before we know it. We had a great first installment of the "Third Tuesday of the Month" Social Run at Grapevine Craft Brewery, and we'll do it again on Tuesday, October 20. Then we'll see GCB again on Saturday, October 24 at Double Trouble. If you still haven't signed up to race or to volunteer, please don't delay. October is also the month for the Palo Duro Trail Run, where many RAW members will be traveling on Saturday, October 17 to explore the canyon and enjoy a 20K, 50K, or 50miler. Of course, there's also the pasta dinner the night before and lots of celebrating over dinner after the race. If you are going, enjoy! I usually try to participate in some races myself in the fall, but this year it looks like I may have a conflict. Read all about it below the Double Trouble ad. Chris Morris, LGRAW President

Doctor's visit makes it difficult to run the usual cool weather races Chris Morris With the cooler weather, I usually have some half marathons and other races that I like to fit into my schedule. But this year, I have a conflict that may make it difficult to do as much racing. It's been especially challenging this year to schedule an appointment with my physician Dr. Chalf. I see him every year around this time, but this year I notice he's been very busy. It's hard to even get the page to load where I usually go to set an appointment on his website http://www.DrChalf.com. The guy's celebrating his 40th year in the business this year, so it shouldn't be too surprising that he's so popular. Back when I first began visiting the doctor a few years ago, I might not have recommended him. There were some bumpy

roads at the start. But everything seemed to smooth out after a while, and he got me out of there in no time. Of course it wouldn't be that way without his friendly office staff who guide all of his patients along the way. They never rush you, and they'll be sure to have you partner with the physician's assistant who works at just the right pace for you. Reminiscent of the old days when the doctors gave out lollipops, Dr. Chalf provides refreshments after your appointment is finished. He even has someone from the office give you a medallion to validate your parking, along with a ribbon to wear it around your neck on the way to your car, so you don't lose it. If you park far away, he even pays for your bus ride back to your car. Because I've been so pleased with the doctor, I thought I'd set up a free office visit for one of my RAW friends. I figured it would be best to give it to someone who volunteered for Double Trouble this year, since volunteers make me look so good as a race director. That winning volunteer is Joe Luccioni. Since I know he likes to get up early, I already set the appointment for 7:30 AM on Saturday, November 1 for him. He can email me to confirm whether that time works. If anyone else makes it in to see Dr. Chalf, let us know how it went. We'd especially like to know how long it took the good doctor to finish with you. Good luck!

"Third Tuesday of the Month" Social Run Photos The first ever Third Tuesday of the Month Social Run, held on the third Tuesday of September of course, was a roaring success. Twentyfive runners and walkers took to the streets to complete a casual 5K course through Grapevine, starting and ending at Grapevine Craft Brewery. Several additional RAW members and friends also attended, but chose to skip the run and instead just visit and enjoy the hospitality of the brewery. Tommy Tamale was on hand serving up dinner to hungry participants, and tables both inside the brewery and outside in the beer garden were full of happy RAW members having so much fun that we even gained a few new members in the process. (Welcome Gordon, Dave and Linda!) Tuesday is Trivia Night at GCB, but neither RAW team was able to win at the Disneythemed contest. Better luck next time!

Make plans now to join us for the next Third Tuesday to be held on Oct 20 at 6:00 PM. Whether you come out for the Social Run, or just the Social part, you'll definitely want to be at Grapevine Craft Brewery to be part of the fun. Click here to RSVP and invite your friends.

The whole crew before the run. The good news is that it can only get cooler for the next time.

Belynda Warner and the rest of the crew get ready for a brief run before the socializing begins.

And they're on the way, carefully making their way through one of the crossings on the course.

New RAW members Dave and Linda relax after the run in the beer garden.

You can't have a social run without being social. Shantel Cloud, new RAW member Gordon Kippola, Jack Hase, Dale Mauger, Kris Ryan and John Studebaker enjoy Grapevine Craft Brewery's selection of beers after the run.
