Dear 55 Plus Members,

Our April Celebration of the Arts Month included art, dancing, music and an author talk! Members had the opportunity to try Hands-on Art projects including engraved slate coasters, mosaic bird baths, fabric windsocks, and bamboo succulent planters. RSVP for May 24th for Clay Keepsake Dishes! Members got hands-on experience with percussion instruments too and the beat took over our bodies with special guest Kathy Quain during the drumming circle. Music and laughter could be heard around the building and the smiles on participant faces were contagious. The large hall was full for our ZUMBA Dance Party. Nancy Birang from Cancer CAREpoint gave a presentation on Top Strategies for Healthy Eating. Members walked away with the knowledge of how to make simple changes to their diets and routines to provide the most benefits to their health. Members enjoyed an Author Talk with Tonya McQuade, and a discussion of her book, A State Divided. THANK YOU for coming out to these programs and trying something new for Aprils “Celebration of the Arts”.

April was Volunteer Appreciation month. Our team here at LGS Recreation would like to send a special thank you to our members, volunteers, and service providers that go above and beyond volunteering their time. Special thank you to AARP Tax Aide volunteers who have been providing services from February through April. In May, we will be onboarding more Teen volunteers to start offering Table Games with Teens and Tech with Teens in June!

May is sure to be an exciting month with our Annual Mother’s Day High Tea on Monday May 13th from 12:00-2:00pm. Bring your appetites and be ready to enjoy some tea and piano music by Sue! Please register with the 55 Plus office as seats are going fast! Thursday May 16th from 10AM12PM we will be hosting our second annual Resource Fair! Join us for a fun and informative day for Seniors to learn all about local Service Providers. Light refreshments will be served in the morning. Last year’s event was a great success with over 40 providers present, we look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely, Stephanie
