FULL MOON KAYAK

Nature Activities with Greg Meyer Kayak Fee (where applicable): $60 to instructor on first day of trip. SHOREBIRDS BY KAYAKS Every winter shorebirds make an epic journey through California on their way to the Southern Hemisphere. Their daily routines are dictated by the tides and this trip is scheduled to see both feeding and roosting periods. Before the trip we will have a short evening class to discuss identification of these birds and discuss their unbelievable lives. No prior experience is necessary. FULL MOON KAYAK Elkhorn Slough is one of California’s largest remaining coastal wetlands and is a beautiful destination for an evening paddle. We will explore the protected waterways while getting a unique look at the abundant birds and marine mammals. As we paddle home at sunset, we will watch the moon rise over to the east over the Gabilan Mountains. FALL CREEK FIRE HIKE The 2020 CZU fire was a historic reset in the Santa Cruz Mountains, burning thousands of acres of protected and developed habitat. On this moderate 4 mile hike at Fall Creek Redwoods, we will look for signs of destruction and regeneration as we discuss fire ecology, climate change and the evolving beauty of our local mountains. SOUTH BAY WILDFLOWERS California has an interesting and unusual geologic history and as a result, our hillsides bloom with rare and endemic wildflowers in Spring. This will be a slow hike uphill through the serpentine soils at the base of the Santa Cruz mountains, near Calero County Park. We will hike for about 5 miles and look for rare plants and interesting landscapes. WILDFLOWERS OF FORT ORD The oak woodlands and vernal pools of this National Monument are the largest stretches of undeveloped coastal land along Monterey Bay, a great spot for Spring wildflowers. Take an easy walk through the trees along sandy trails, stopping to look at the many species of unusual plants and flowers that thrive here. We will hike for about 4 miles and discuss the history, ecology and future of these beautiful public lands.
