TO WHAT EXTENT DOES BRAND IDENTITY AND TYPOGRAPHY IMPACT UPON CONSUMER CULTURE AND BUYING TRENDS?
Dissertation GARY BARKER Tutor Rationale (200 words) 'Minimalistic & conceptually driven typographic design focussing on layout & a limited application of colour for high end print.’ In conjunction with this my practice is aimed to be design led, as opposed to client led and geared toward the production of promotional & publication based materials. This could include editorial also. Within this module I want to: 01. Develop a design practice geared toward print process and print based media. 02. Engage with screen-printing, publishing, layout and branding. 03. Approach each brief conceptually and enjoy the process through selecting subject matter that interests me. 04. Collaborate with other designers on the course and potentially individuals within the industry. 05. After this year work in an agency (LDN or LDS) where I can develop freelance work alongside a job. 06. Incorporate an element of illustration into my practice, although type will be the main focus. 07. Significantly increase my knowledge in typography and typographic theory. 08. Have a structured and more efficient routine.
Statement of Intent (200 words) In order to fulfil my rationale I will: 01. Utilise print based workshops and resources, both software based and manual based. 02. Work on at least one collaboration this module as a core brief. 03. Develop a strong relationship with design agencies, network and make contacts. 04. Attend talks and liaise with visiting professionals. 05. Work on briefs that will allow me to produce work that will enhance my portfolio. 06. Research into suitable areas of design and shortlist agencies that interest me/produce work that I aspire to.
