Your Residence Hall Experience

Residence Life: Your Resident Assistant (RA)

As you prepare to move in, you will notice that one or two RAs are assigned to your hall. They are there to get to know you and help you grow. You will have opportunities to build community through sitting as a hall at Convocation, grabbing a meal together with your brother or sister dorm, and attending many exciting hall events! There are four mandatory Hall Meetings a semester, with many halls having optional Hall Meetings on a weekly basis. This is an intentional time for your hall to build rapport, grow, and hear important announcements or reminders. Residence Life believes that RAs are uniquely positioned to be a positive influence, now and later. We encourage you to get to know the leadership on your hall as we have been waiting for your arrival. Welcome home!

16

LU Shepherd: Your Resident Shepherd (RS) and Community Group Leader (CGL)

LU Shepherd is the pastoral arm of Liberty University. It is comprised of men and women with a diverse background of ministry experiences who oversee the peer-to-peer accountability structure of community groups. These groups are led by Community Group Leaders (CGL) and Resident Shepherds (RS). The LU Shepherd staff takes a visible, proactive approach to the spiritual development and pastoral care of students. They offer oneon-one biblical counseling, premarital counseling, and chaplaincy through hospital visitation and benevolence. Any student with a pastoral concern is always welcome to come to the LU Shepherd office, located on the ground floor of Dorm 17 on The Hill, to schedule an appointment to talk to someone.

All on-campus residential students are placed into community groups on their halls, which provide students an immediate opportunity to connect. Commuter students can get connected with Commuter Shepherds to join a commuter community group off campus. Though LU Shepherd provides many avenues for students to get connected, it is LU Shepherd’s desire to encourage and empower students to organically form relationships.

Mandatory Meetings During Welcome Week

The Office of Student Life will be hosting a mandatory New Student Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. This meeting will be located at Thomas Road Baptist Church. At 10 p.m., students will meet back on their halls for individual mandatory hall meetings.
