What takes a manual welder 6 hrs to weld 24 carbon welds fill and cap with flux core. We were doing welds with machine in 25 minutes each if we were rolling and 30 minutes doing vertical ups and 2G. All field superintendants were negative about orbital prior to demo. They are now believers. Contributors: Drew Dekoyer, Liburdi Dimetrics
RIC Gen III: Titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN)
Our new Gen III coating offers over 400 hours of ASTM Salt Fog corrosion resistance and enhanced erosion resistance, five to ten times the life of the current coating. With an iridescent surface finish of 6—in, optimal compressor performance is assured.

COMBINED-CYCLE
Two-thirds of this combined-cycle plant’s electricity is generated by two combustion turbine generators fueled exclusively by natural gas. The exhaust heat from these turbines is captured and recycled to create high-pressure steam, which drives a steam turbine generator, producing the balance of the plant’s electric output. This recycling process allows the plant to be 40-percent more efficient than plants using older technology and will help conserve valuable resources. The facility supplies 570-megawatt of power, enough energy to light and heat about 570,000 households.

CPR1000
Mainland China has 11 nuclear power reactors in commercial operation, 20 under construction, and more to start construction. Additional reactors are planned, including some of the world's most advanced, to give increase nuclear capacity to at least 60 GWe or more by 2020, and then a further increase to 160 GWe by 2030.
PWR (Pressurized Water Reactors) In front of the reactor vessel is a deeply recessed fuel pool, where nuclear fuel assemblies will be temporarily stored during refuelling. It is these major components, as well as main pumps, the pressurizer unit and heavy-guage piping between them that make up the primary coolant circuit of the pressurized water reactor. A second loop of water is turned to high-pressure steam on passing through the steam generators and this goes on to drive a set of turbines and generate 1080 MWe in this CPR-1000 model. A third loop of cold water taken from and returned to the sea is used to condense steam in the secondary loop and ultimately remove heat from the closed system. Sea water is typically returned around 4 ÂşC warmer than when it entered the system.
Liburdi’s newly designed Narrow Groove weld head, Gold Track VI power system and FireView are scheduled to weld the primary coolant circuit on the CPR 1000 reactor which consists of 3 loops, each loop has 3 legs: hot leg, cold leg and cross over leg.

NRU UPDATE
“The latest weld repair was successfully completed on Tuesday, March 16 and has proven to be the most complicated and difficult repair undertaken to date. AECL is evaluating the lessons-learned from this latest repair and will be applying them to the remaining repair sites. The vessel repair team is transitioning to the final repair sequence with two repair sites remaining. www.nrucanada.ca

HYBRID SOLAR
Using Parabolic Trough Technology to capture heat from the sun, this facility will include approximately 200,000 parabolic mirrors. Total power produced from this new solar plant will be 155,000 MWh of power annually – enough power for 11,000 homes or 26,000 people. Using Liburdi Dimetrics new MIG K-head and Orbi-mig II weld system, 8-30" pipes are welded for heat transfer fluid tubes (usually oil) to absorb the concentrated sunlight increasing the temperature of the fluid to some 400°C. The heat transfer fluid is then used to heat steam in a standard turbine generator. Our new 4000 closed chamber heads were also used to weld stainless steel solar tubes.

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Nine power generation gas turbines were audited at a major power plant in the central region in order to evaluate the physical condition of the overall plant and the systems controlling the operation of the turbines. The long term objective is to increase power to “as new condition by recommending a more rigorous maintenance regimen. Characterizing the type of damage and quantifying the extent of material degradation allows for an informed and cost effective repair or replacement solution.
