I walked into the restaurant and I took one look at her and she took one look at me and it was “love” at first sight.

Daniel DiCriscio: Leslie, have you always had pets and was your family into pets as well while you were growing up?
Leslie Jordan: You know, Daniel, growing up we always
had pets. Dogs and cats. I remember cats always having kittens back then. Once behind the washing machine and we didn’t even know she was pregnant. I remember my first dog was Scamper was hit by a car. It was devastating. But there were always turtles, goldfish, mice and even baby chickens at Easter. Having pets is a great way to teach kids responsibility. When I was four, I got a pony. After that, it was always horses! I even was an Exercise Rider for thoroughbred race horses in my early 20’s. DD: Would you consider yourself a Dog or a Cat person and why?
LJ: I am definitely a dog person. I love cats but I have always had dogs as an adult.
DD: How did you find your current gorgeous dog Beauregard and what kind of breed is he?
Fun Fact: Leslie and I both co-starred in a funny music video that was from one of his Celebrity Big Brother house-mates. One thing about Leslie that is so admirable is his love for animals. I recently met Leslie and his beautiful dog, Beauregard, on a walk New Years Eve day and amid our chit chat I was so taken by his love for his dog that I asked him to be my next celebrity “Animal Chat”. Leslie obliged with his sweet southern charm and as you can see in the photo for this interview, so did Beauregard! In true Leslie Jordan fashion ...or was it Beverly Leslie, lol, ...when I was taking our selfie photo with Beau too, Leslie said in his trademark drawl regarding our pic, ”Oh My, it looks like a photo from Vogue Magazine!” Leslie’s the sweetest ever! You gotta love him...and it’s clear the public agrees and adores him!

Animal Chat LJ: My current dog came to me from a homeless guy. I would see him around Starbucks and walking the neighborhood. The dog is a wonderful Lab/Malamute mix. All the characteristics of a Lab but with a black, long silky coat. I gave the homeless guy my phone number in case he ever needed someone to foster the dog. He called one day and said he could no longer look after the dog. It was a heart wrenching decision. He had the dog since he was a pupply. So we met at The Post Office on Beverly. Beauregard was well taken care of but really old. He was twelve then. He is such a sweet, well-mannered old dog. The homeless guy is still in Beau’s life. He comes by weekly and takes Beau to the park. So Beau does not in anyway think he was abandoned. It was an amazing transition. DD: Do you consider Beauregard a family member, child, pet, or? Also, Does Beau go on set and travel with you?
LJ: Daniel, I think of Beauregard as family. It is extremely difficult to leave him. But with my job, I travel quite a bit. I do acting jobs out of town and also I am on the gay standup comedy circuit. I have a dear friend who stays with Beau. There is no way I could take him with me. He weighs a hundred pounds and has trouble getting around. I sometimes think that Beau likes my friend who stays with him better than me as my friend loves to get down and wrestle with Beau. They roughhouse and roll all over the place. I’m more the “toss the ball and you go get it” kind of owner. DD: So tell us what’s going on in the iconic Leslie Jordan’s world, I see you are back on Will & Grace and funny as ever! You have also been on so many other shows like American Horror Story, Celebrity Big Brother, Sordid Lives, etc, so anything new in the future we should lookout for?
LJ: So I am currently working some on the reboot of “Will and Grace.” I have also written “the book” for a musical called “GLORY! GLORY!” which is having a Staged Reading in Jackson, Mississippi next month. We hope to get the show to Broadway. But what a journey that has turned out to be. I also have a TV series that only airs in The UK. It is called “Living The Dream.” It airs on SKY TV. We have been picked up for a second season. We shoot in Spain! So it looks to be a good year for Leslie Jordan and his faithful companion, Beauregard. DD: Fabulous!...and Thank you Leslie!

It is her second career for the 10+ years- ever since she left the Garment Center after 22 years of being a Fashion Designer. Born in Athens Greece, she came to NYC at the age of 10. She graduated Marymount and F.I.T. - her love was art, fashion and architecture. Her illustrations were chosen for Kramer vs. Kramer . In addition, she graduated Ecole ABC in Paris with a degree in Drawing, Perspective and Photography. Barbara’s background is most notable for her experience working with Halston for 7 years (1980 - 1987), prior to his death in 1990. She was one of his seven assistants, specializing in overseeing the interpretation from sketches to the actual garment - attending the fitting with the models and private clients such as Liza Minelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Martha Graham etc, for made -to-order, special projects as well as the collections of suits, dresses and evening wear. In addition she assisted on all the fashion shows at the Olympic Tower. She free lanced shoes for Mario Valentino. She was chosen by Oleg Cassini to design and launch his evening wear line - She named it “Black Tie.” Her dresses and evening sport pieces were made in Asia - many of them hand beaded and embroidered . She traveled frequently and extensively to Hong Kong and India. Eventually she continued designing for mainstream America as Head Designer. First for Pat Argenti: all silk dresses and separates made in China. Travel was intense- in addition to Hong Kong 5 times a year, she went to Europe 2-3 times a year , until she decided to stay more local. She worked with Adrianna Pappell, Donna Morgan, David’s Bridal, Victoria’s Secret. This was in an era when designing was done by hand, when prints were collaborated with artists from studios at Lake Cuomo and Paris, when trims were hand selected, fabrics were chosen from world resources at shows in Germany and Paris, and inspiration came from shopping in Paris, Milan and London… Barbara is a happily married mom to a beautiful Maltese boy named “Christo” that she absolutely adores. She resides in Manhattan, and frequently visits her homeland in Mykonos, Greece.

Her recent design credits include an award winning short film Stiff (best costume design at the Birmingham Film Festival UK). Byron “DJ Crazy B” Smith is from the inner-city of Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2014, where he majored in Computer Science with a concentration in Business. Through the strong ties he has built with his Alma Mater in doing events while a student, he is still one of the schools primary DJ’s for organizational events, Homecomings, UMES National Alumni Association, and also serves as UMES DJ during the MEAC Basketball Tournament Hospitality Suites. Recently he served as a DJ for Baltimore City’s Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake “National Night Out” community service event (which is an event that is a cohesive effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and sends a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back). Inquiring minds want to know, “Why Pets?” Laura Gianna: My first love was musical theater. Unfortunately, my vocal cords were damaged after an operation and I could no longer sing. Enter into my life the fabulous “Gianna” my fur baby. I channeled all of my creativity into entering small scale fur baby contests for rescues and hospice work. After several years of always winning they kindly asked me to stop entering the contests. Please come and support only. LM: How did you develop a special connection with animals and in the hearts of those that strut the pet fashion runway across the USA?! LG: I developed a bond with animals because they love you unconditionally and don’t ask for much in return. I have a special connection with animals and those that strut their stuff on the runway because G Girl is a family. LM: Who was your first pet? LG: My first fur baby was a black Poodle. LM: Was it the doggie in the stroller photo? LG: Yes.

Even at the age of 3 I already knew my calling of strutting our stuff as mommy and fur baby throughout Elizabeth, NJ. LM: It seems that this visual of you as an adorable tot just a few years old with the doggie in the baby stroller foretells your future. Was getting into the pet business by plan or accident? LG: Accident. LM: Why “G” Girls? What’s in a name? LG: “G Girl” was chosen because it was named after my dog, “Gianna” and no one was doing these kinds of events in country clubs. It is a neutral name and no one would ever suspect it was a fur baby event until after I landed an upscale venue. LM: Tell us about “Gianna?” LG: “Gianna” is the wind beneath my wings. She is my inspiration and my heart fur baby. She is the best of our G Girl Family. Included in the G Girl family are not only my own fur babies but the fur babies of my entourage. My fur babies include “Little Gabriella,” the “Little G Girl” who “Gianna” is grooming to one day take over the title position of “G Girl.” We also have “Leonardo” the singing Pawvarotti, “Gisella,” the class clown who really does not like to venture out. All of my babies are rescues.
LM: Tell us about this wonderful vintage photo.
LM: When did you start?
LG: His name was Alex and he was named after “Alexander Hamilton.”
LG: I started in the fur baby world 12 years ago and G Girl came to be 7 years ago just for fun and the LLC was created almost 4 years ago.

LM: What is your mission? LG: G Girl’s mission is to go from state to state and eventually Canada and beyond to bring awareness to the needs of rescues worldwide. We only have one life and I want to make a difference by being the voice of the voiceless. LM: Who attends your events? LG: Demographics are 7 years of age to 70 years of age and above. The only requirement is to love fur babies.
“We sit down to a threecourse meal for the parents and fur babies who are served ‘Pawperignon.’” LM: Tell us about the typical G Girl event LG: The typical event is two days of fun, fashion and fundraising. Our evenings begin with prejudging of the fur babies and their attire. When all are served we move into the banquet room for the runway presentation. While the judges are making their final decision we sit down to a three-course meal for the parents and fur babies who are served “Pawperignon,” (lol - not real alcohol), grilled chicken and steamed veggies and our signature three-tier fur baby cake.
LG: There is no one in the country that does what I do. The ladies call it the G Girl Formula. They call me the Walt Disney of the fur baby community. LM: Tell us about the charitable side of the equation and who benefits. LG: That varies from state to state, as we pick a new charity in each state where the event will be held. LM: How can readers attend a future event? LG: By following us on Lick Magazine and G Girl Productions, Facebook, Twitter, etc. LM: Can you tell us when and where your next G Girl event destination will be? LG: Our April event was at the Founders Inn, in Virginia Beach, VA hosted by the Royal BB Girls. LM: What does BB stand for? LG: “Lady Blu Blu Hopper” and her “Royal Highness Bree,” the dogs of the Virginia Beach Event Hostess Regina Stafford. Our August event is at the New Yorker Hotel in Midtown Manhattan and will be our biggest event ever. The 5th annual International Cotillion 2018 is a two-day event being held both nights in the The New Yorker Grand Ballroom. We are wowed and appreciative that the “New York Times” has committed to live streaming our event to Its’ 3 million digital readers.
Throughout the evening there is a live auction, 50/50 raffle and raffle tables sometimes vendors. One hundred percent of the live auction and raffle table goes to the rescue/charity. There is also an on-line auction and on-line photo contest. The winners are announced the evening of the event.
LM: That’s fantastic! I also heard that Beverly Hills, California “Land of Stars” is in the cards!!
LM: Tell us about the ladies who attend. What are they like? What do they bring to the party?
LM: Is there anything we can add that we’ve left out of our chat?
LG: The ladies that attend these events are fantabulous! They bring their love and support of my mission and vision for helping rescues and charities. They travel with us all over the country. Without the ladies, designers and sponsors I could not do what I do. I especially love Lick Magazine.

Perhaps the ultimate doggie dream is to be an elegant princess or prince, strutting down fashion runways, sashaying and frolicking at galas and posh fundraisers or posing on red carpets dressed to perfection in gorgeous custom couture fashions. Welcome to the beautiful world of G Girls Productions! Atlanta GirlZ Club® has been involved in pet fashion for more than a decade. As an influential pet Fashion, Fun & Fundraising brand, Atlanta GirlZ Club featuring my beautiful furbabies, Lucy & Holly, has for many years supported, participated in and won trophies at numerous upscale pet events and elite pet fashion shows. Because I like including my amazing furkids in everything I do (they are, after all, family), I seek out high-end pet events, luxury pet friendly accommodations and fun, upscale activities that we can attend together. Another important element of events we attend, and a major component of our core mission, is helping animals in need via fundraising.
G Girl Productions. G Girl Productions, and in particular, Laura Sighinolfi Souza, makes doggie dreams a reality. Laura is the founder and owner of G Girl Productions, a furbaby event coordinator, furbaby modeling agency and fashion boutique. This type of runway modelling takes more than a great body and a pretty face. It takes doggies of all breeds, shapes, colors and types bringing their “A” Game to help raise funds for animal rescue groups. As Laura puts it, “Fun - Fashion - Bling - It’s a G Girl thing!” If loving pet fashion is a crime, then I plead guilty. I adore dressing up my couture fashion models, Lucy and Holly. And,

“We’re all about Fashion, Fun & Fundraising” G Girls is a perfect fit for Atlanta GirlZ Club. We attended our first G Girl event at the Omni Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina last fall. The “Magnolia Masquerade Ball” was spectacular in every way! G Girls’ elements of charity and fundraising greatly appealed to me as fundraising is at the heart of Atlanta GirlZ Club. Pampered, stylish pups, or “Dog-U-Tantes” as I have personally nicknamed couture doggies, and their pet paWrents from all over the country showed up for a chic, three-day event. Our furbabies were welcomed everywhere! The first day, we were driven via a luxury chauffeured van to a wonderful wine tour and luncheon. The Magnolia Masquerade Ball was an elegant gala with everyone dressed in chic formal attire. A lavish G Girl ice sculpture greeted attendees at the ballroom entrance. Everyone enjoyed signature cocktails and a seated, full course dinner with music by master DJ, Bumi Benjamin. Furbabies were also served individually plated meals of organic chicken and fresh veggies, along with Dog Pawrignon champagne and doggie cake for dessert. Of course, oodles of fashion were the main attraction, as it is with all the G Girl runway shows, complete with fashion industry judges and trophies. Rob Sayegh, President and Founder of R World Media, Ltd. and his film crew were present filming all of the events, as well as conducting private interviews with Atlanta GirlZ Club and others. For the private judging and runway competition, Lucy and Holly wore magnificent ball gowns and headpieces created by popular couture designer Barbara Merrifield, owner of Bark N Boujee®. Lucy won high honors and a lovely trophy for “Second Heir to the Throne.” Best of all, lots of money was raised for a canine rescue group in Charlotte. Earlier this year, we traveled to south Florida for G Girls’ Glitz & Glamour Homecoming Dance. Atlanta GirlZ Club was honored to be a silver sponsor for the event. This was a two-day fashion
event held at the beautiful Abacoa Country Club in Juniper, Florida. A judged runway competition was the centerpiece of the evening which also included an elegant buffet dinner, cocktails and high-end raffle prizes. As in Charlotte, furbabies were served Dog Pawrignon champagne and organic chicken and veggie plates. Once again, designer Barbara Merrifield (Bark N Boujee) created breathtakingly stunning cotillion gowns and gorgeous princess crowns for Lucy and Holly. While both GirlZ wowed the judges and rocked the runway in their dazzling, Swarovski and jewel encrusted gowns, Holly brought home the “Duchess” trophy. In keeping with G Girls’ charitable component, thousands of dollars were raised for Canine Shelter Rescue of North Augusta, SC. The world of competitive pet fashion events is growing quite rapidly. A great deal of time, energy, a love of couture pet fashion and a passion for our furbabies goes into this level of fundraising. Atlanta GirlZ Club and G Girls invite everyone in the pet community to come to these marvelous events. There is a strong sense of community. People attend not only for friendly competition, but to visit with their pageant friends, all while getting a mega dose of couture pet fashion and, mostly, to raise funds for rescues.

I was so very happy and delighted as I so admire her and the entire G Girl Family of participants & models for all of their hard work, effort, and most importantly, the love that they put into organizing and putting on such wonderful events to raise money to help rescued fur babies.

One of the few remaining wild white lions in the Little Karoo area of South Africa. These lions are not albinos, but a genetic rarity which produces their light fur and unique eye color. The gene is carried by tawny lions and white cubs occur in the litters that pass along the gene. The White Lion Trust has been instrumental in campaigning to have all lions better protected throughout South Africa and have been reintroducing both white and tawny lions back into their natural habitats in some limited locations to study them.

lick spotlight - All Souls Day Kittenz The Plight Of Cats And Kittens In Our Shelter System It is estimated are that 75% of the cats killed in shelters are kittens. Another stomach churning statistic is that only 1 in 12 kittens that make it into the shelter system will find their forever home.

without even getting a name or being loved by a human. Yet they came to love, and represent the loving joy they came to share with us. These facts are not well known, shocking most people I share them with. The reality is that kittens come into the shelters with little or no immunity, need to be fed every 2-3 hours, and are extremely vulnerable. They cannot be adopted out until they are two pounds, because they need to be big enough to spay/neuter. Many of these kittens were taken from their mothers too soon, by well-meaning humans who thought the shelter would take care of them and find them better homes. Many of them are killed the same day they are brought into the shelter.
Facts are hard to find because there are not any national kill statistics required by the government. Most shelters do not separate out the cat from kitten numbers. Others will count a whole litter of kittens (average of 2-6 kittens) as one cat. Many kittens die

Pet Memorial - Bubbles Saying goodbye to someone who has shared a long and special presence in my life, about a third of it to be exact, was so very difficult. I remember how I got Bubbles, by offering to foster a pregnant cat for a rescue group and volunteer to help place her kittens. The birth of the kittens was very exciting as I saw two gray tabbies, a brown tabby and an all-black kitten come into the world. Almost immediately the decision was made by my parents to keep the mom cat and she was named Sophie. One by one the kittens were found new loving homes. My parents also kept a kitten, so Sophie would have one of her own as a lifelong companion. I placed the gray female with my vet’s mother since she wanted a friend for her older cat, but within a few days it was clear that the older cat was very unhappy with the new arrival, so I got a call that things just weren’t working out. I was secretly delighted, since I really missed the little gray female as soon as she was gone.
I had convinced myself she would have a great life with a cat lover whose daughter was a vet. As soon as I opened the carrier and saw her I was overjoyed and said, “you’re not going anywhere else”, and named her Bubbles. She was always a little shy but trusted me deeply and always very affectionate, even though she avoided most other people. She really was a “one person cat.” I did get another kitten when she was 7 months old so she wouldn’t grow up alone — a 3 month old Abyssinian, who I named Mango. They were lifelong friends until Mango passed away in 2015. Bubbles had health issues the last year of her life, but still a good quality of life until the last day when I came home and saw that she had reached the end and her body was just giving out. I had a very compassionate vet come to my home, so Bubbles passed away in her room and in my arms, where she had always felt happy and secure. — Beverly —
