Trends UK Marine Industry KPI’s (2007/8) • Total turnover of the UK leisure and small commercial marine industry is £3.1billion - an increase of 5% from 2006/7 • There are around 35,200 employees across the industry (Full Time Equivalent) - an decrease of 1.4% from 2006/7 • In the UK, there are around 4,300 businesses in the UK leisure & small commercial marine market

Developments Berthing Demand • Recent survey 156 TYHA coastal members (49 responded) • Looked at dry stack, and 5 size categories • Majority excess demand for all sizes • Highest demand for larger berths 12-14 and 14 plus metres • Overall 68% of marinas surveyed reported excess demand for berths in all categories. This rises to 82% for berths >14m.
Developments Key findings • 238 marinas in the UK providing 49,000 berths • Core marina businesses very productive - £80,000 per FTE • Tenant businesses contribute the largest overall impact (Generate over 50% totals in terms of GVA and jobs supported) • Visitor spend figures from £50 per person per night to £136 more than twice non boating visitors
Developments Overall Economic Impact of Coastal Marinas • Gross Value Added (GVA): More than £500 million (seven times core operations) • Extrapolating the case study findings suggests this figure could be as high as £700 million). • Employment: Every job in the core coastal marina sector supports a further 12 jobs in the local economy • Total of 22,000 jobs within coastal economies - tenant businesses, suppliers and as a result of visitor and employee expenditures in the wider economy.
