After meeting through a mutual friend in Chicago in 2007, Shelby Conroy and Chad Cysewski were immediately drawn to each other. Six years later, Chad proposed at the same restaurant where they had their first date. After a surprise celebration following dinner with their families, the planning of a big city, romantic and elegant-themed wedding began.

THE LOOK “I am not one for bright colors in my everyday wardrobe or home decor, which is something I read you should keep in mind for choosing colors for your wedding day,” says Shelby. “Going with our romantic theme, we decided to set a color palette of blush tones and natural color choices.”

ADVICE FROM THE bride Shelby and Chad had a goal in mind the last seven days before their wedding: to relax and take it easy. Her advice is to get everything done a week prior to the wedding. “It was a great feeling not to be rushed and frantic the days leading up to the wedding. At that point, we just let the anticipation and excitement take over!”

THE FLOWERS To tie in with her romantic vision of blush and natural color choices, Shelby’s bouquet included a combination of soft ivory and pale peach garden roses, peach stock, with soft white ranunculus and blush astilbe with an accent of dusty miller. The stems of her bouquet, along with the bouquets of her maid and matron of honor—her two sisters, were adorned with lace fabric from their mother’s wedding dress. Guest tables featured low silver vases designed with similar flowers surrounded by silver mercury votive candles. Other tables featured translucent, tall glass vases with dark branches individually decorated with fluffy white hydrangeas.

THE CEREMONY Selecting the location for their ceremony was surprisingly simple. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Holy Name Cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in the city. Matched with the history, the beauty of the long aisle and the beautiful stained glass windows, it was one of the easiest decisions in planning our wedding,â&#x20AC;? said Shelby.

THE RECEPTION After searching for the perfect reception venue, Shelby and Chad fell in love with the Hard Rock Hotel, which paired well with the fun party and lively mood that followed the nuptials.

THE DRESS After trying on nearly 20 dresses at various bridal shops, Shelby visited a Jenny Yoo store in Chicago and fell in love with an A-line gown that had plenty of options to fit her individual style. “When I put my dress on and saw all of the options for ways to tie the straps, I was sold. I was also really mindful of my body type; I didn’t want anything too tight or over the top.”

In memory of Shelby’s mom, who passed away in 2005, Shelby and Chad decided to make a donation to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (in addition to traditional wedding favors). Shelby also wore her mom’s wedding veil, which was both important and meaningful to her. “I wish I could wear it every day!”

ADVICE FROM THE bride “When making decisions about your wedding, go for the things you love and don’t second guess them. It will all come together in a beautiful, cohesive whole.”

THE PROPOSAL It was a Saturday morning in June when the couple, both architects, took their customary walk in Central Park. “When we came to the Conservatory Garden, our favorite spot, he took a deep breath and got down on one knee,” Meeghan said. While Brendan wanted the proposal to be private, some tourists were kind enough to take some photos and email them to the couple.

THE DRESS The Nicole Miller simple, fitted wedding gown was an easy find for Meeghan. Because the ceremony took place in the morning, she wanted it to be easy to put on! It was only the second one she tried.

THE CEREMONY The couple realized a dream by getting married in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. Meeghan said the rehearsal was a little “rough” and she regretted not taking notes at all of her friends’ recent wedding ceremonies. But when Brendan’s family friend performed the ceremony, he guided it so well, she said “it just imparted this wonderful sense of calm and holiness to the morning.”

THE RECEPTION Because the ceremony was at 9 a.m., it created some challenges for the reception but Meeghan’s mom came through and planned a brunch reception. “We wanted it to feel refined but relaxed—like a family gathering that used grandmother’s pewter but with the granddaughter picking the wildflowers for the table.”

The early morning ceremony at the Basilica offered the couple a chance to serve their favorite mealâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;brunch! And they had the added benefit of a party that went on the entire day.

THE CAKE Brendan doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have much of a sweet tooth, so they opted for a carrot cake as a happy compromise.

THE COLOR PALETTE The color orange became a bit of an obsession with Meeghan during the wedding planning process. She thought it would be a gorgeous color against the blue and gold of the Basilica. She went heavily orange with greens, yellows and blues for contrast.

THE FLORALS Meeghan’s mom did a lot of the behind-the-scenes organizing. Meeghan was able to have a phone conversation with the designer who mentioned various flowers and Meeghan looked them up on the Internet as they talked. The result: coral peonies, peach “juliet” garden roses, orange asiatic lilies, blue tweedia, blush hydrangea, coral roses, peach stock, peach spray roses, baby blue delphinium, yellow tulips and ivy. The colorful blooms fit the garden feel perfectly.

first organization providing wedding wishes to couples facing terminal illnesses or life-altering circumstances. Each couple receives wishes entirely through the generosity of “Wish Granters” from within the wedding and event industry. During the holiday season and the season of giving, it seemed appropriate for the Indianapolis Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding to grant the wedding wish of Elizabeth and Bryan, a couple from Fort Wayne.

The couple met while taking the bus every day and the two eventually began sitting next to each other during impromptu prayer sessions. After two years of prayer, church going and dating, Bryan proposed to Elizabeth. Wish Upon a Wedding granted Elizabeth and Bryan their wish due to Elizabeth’s battle with lupus and multiple sclerosis—both debilitating diseases. Elizabeth suffers bouts where her body shuts down to the point where she can’t walk until she is given steroids and requires hospitalization. After that, she receives inpatient therapy for at least another month. She takes several medications and has undergone chemotherapy. The multitude of health issues has made it very difficult to

plan a wedding. Wish Upon a Wedding wanted to grant her wish of a “Winter Wonderland Wedding” in time for the holidays. Elizabeth and Bryan were married December 16th on the 25th floor of the PNC Center in downtown Fort Wayne at Empyrean Events and Catering. Hundreds of candles decorated the ceremony aisle and altar space as Elizabeth and Bryan were married in an intimate ceremony. As Elizabeth entered the aisle for the processional, Bryan exclaimed, “Elizabeth, you are the most beautiful woman in the world!” To see such raw emotion was a very sweet and tender moment for everyone present.

The reception was nothing short of magical: a long table dressed in silver sequined linen, adorned with dozens of floating candles; snow white floral, and goose down snow created an enchanted setting for the guests. The vision was created using silver branches canopied over the table and candles hung from the branches to allow candlelight to dance above the family and friends. At Elizabeth’s request, the silver sparkling cake featured several ombre shades of pale blue butterflies, which cascaded down the frosting. The entire scene sparkled as Elizabeth and Bryan enjoyed a five -course dinner with their family and friends before dancing to Motown music. Although the couple didn’t want the evening to end, they did it in style in a horse-drawn carriage and Elizabeth wrapped in a cozy fur stole.

THE TABLESCAPE The white table alone is magical with a wintry glow of candlelight reflecting a snowy streetscape; free flowing, natural flowers, lanterns, votives, silvery chargers and sparkle galore. The delicate and dainty nature of a new, clean, soft snowfall is captured in the ambiance. Clear chiavari chairs and silver chair covers were used to embrace the icy feel.

THE PAPER PRODUCTS A snow globe-inspired design on metallic card stock provides contrast to the floral. The menu card is wrapped in a cellophane envelope holding little bits of snow confetti.

Our creative team—headed up by Monica Richard, MBC, of Mon Amie Events organized a wintry cover shoot in the sophisticated Crystal Terrace at the Columbia Club. And when the venue overlooks Monument Circle, can it be anything other than spectacular?

The first was a Pronovias illusion neck sheath with plenty of lace and beading for the ceremony. The reception dress, below, was a full-beaded Swarovski crystal sheath by Enaura Bridal Couture.

HAIR & MAKEUP A very vintage glam headpiece on our “bride” Erica, goes perfectly with the loose curls swept dramatically to the side by the hair stylists. The same curls were repeated in bridesmaid Jill’s hair. Makeup for both was very much sophisticated, sultry and romantic with soft grays and deep berry and plum colors to highlight our models’ natural beauty.

THE VENUE The leaded-glass windows with stained glass accents at the Columbia Club provided the backdrop for our shoot. Built in 1925, the Gothic Revival-style structure has one of the best addresses in the city, and it is one of the most historic and classic spots for a wedding reception.

THE CAKE & COOKIES Glitter dust was sprinkled on the cake, making it magical and enticing. Other features: ivory pearls, quilted butter cream and Damask stenciling. Need we say more? Buttery cookies incorporated a little bit of icy blue. The cake sat majestically on white-sequined linens.

THE FLORAL Gorgeous doesn’t even start to describe the floral used for the shoot. Similar flowers were displayed in the centerpieces to achieve the relaxed yet eyepoppingly beautiful wintry arrangement.
