FROM THE EDITOR Enough has already been said and written about 2020. Our typically happy and joyous industry has been turned upside down, and no one was exempt from the fears, disruptions and at worst the pain of losing a loved one.

The wedding industry will survive – and we will be even stronger than before! Trends such as micro-weddings have taken center stage, but will that trend continue? The same with destination weddings – will the lock down that we’ve experienced over the past six months increase our desire for travel? Time will certainly tell, but I can tell you that the wedding industry will adapt and embrace! WeddingDay has also looked at creative ways to continue serving our readers in a way that makes sense in today’s climate. We allowed our digital reach to lead the path for six digital editions from six cities where our website traffic is strongest. Six editions – all with their own custom cover shoot teams! It truly was a special time, with many obstacles in the way to make them happen, but an experience that I’m sure the participants will never forget. At the end of the year, we will launch our much-anticipated annual print Look Book 2021 issue that will be a beautiful and inspirational coffee table guide for couples planning a wedding.

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name
AFTER THE WEDDING

our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.
The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.
When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.
MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

We’re absolutely over the moon to celebrate the winners of WeddingDay’s second annual Style Shoot Design Contest! Our team was thrilled to see the variety of submissions we received, each utilizing the Pantone Color of the Year, Classic Blue, and an original take on one of our pre-selected themes: Artistic Touch, Out of This World, Destination Wedding, Sustainable Wedding and Think Palm Springs! While this was an extremely close call between all the gorgeous designs created, we had one winner that stood out above the rest. And we couldn’t help but share the stunning work of the runner up and the talent of our three favorite finalists!

Grace Pulver Photography and Celebrated Events took us on a journey filled with stardust and magic. Dubbed “Stardust Solstace,” this celebration set out to tell a story and succeeded in every aspect. "Our shoot centers around the wedding of a celestial being and a young man fascinated by the night sky and in particular, one star that seems to appear nightly, shining brightly above him,” explains Cyndi Basker, owner of Celebrated Events. “As all stars can, this celestial being produces her own light, and night after night, she shines as she watches him watch her. She falls in love with him, and one night, decides to fall to earth, where she finds him looking for her in the night sky. Knowing they are destined to be together, they decide to marry.” Every detail of this shoot relates back to this story. Cyndi notes that the team chose décor that reflected both the earth and sky, showcasing how the two are connected. The handpainted glassware, candles and golden flatware were picked to reflect a specific lunar style. The plates were specifically aligned to mimic the golden rays of the sun against the dark phases of the moon. And speaking of lunar style, we’re simply blown away by the custom made crescent moon, painted Classic Blue and covered in blue plumosa!

When considering locations for this shoot, the team wanted to find somewhere with lots of seclusion, and Gable Hill was the ideal choice. Cyndi adds, “We wanted to use nature as our backdrop, including the sky as it moved from dusk to darkness. It feels almost like a sacred space amidst the majesty of the nature that envelopes you. It's almost as if you are in another, private world of your own, away from technology, and the hustle of everyday life.”
The florals in this shoot are another huge win in our book. Using blue plumosa, ferns, hostas, solomon seals and aranthera orchids, amongst others, the style achieved was moody and atmospheric. “We wanted to use floral/foliage and greens that felt organic to keep in harmony with the natural setting of the shoot,” Cyndi says. “We wanted the florals to have a wild, unfettered and perhaps a bit of an unconventional feel.” This otherworldly landscape deserves a shining bridal star! There are so many parts to this look that make the model look like an ethereal goddess. Hair and makeup artist Beauty and Bliss helped this bride’s organic beauty shine by keeping her look as natural as possible. The custom headpiece is bursting with stars, perfect for any celestial bride! The gown was chosen because of its sunray design, sheer lace and sequins that have an overall shimmering effect. “We love the modern twist on iconic imagery!” Cyndi gushes. 50

Their love is written in the stars. Shayne of Shayne Culp Photography coordinated and captured a celestial love story of an offbeat couple in a way that left us speechless. Classic Blue peeks subtly throughout this shoot in ways that we love: in the bridal suit, the square bouquet and the blue chocolate glazed cake. “The vision was meant to be colorful and celestial without going over the top. I’m so happy with the results,” Shayne notes. 52

We’ve got an eye for detail, and Shayne and her team did not disappoint. Marble plates, jeweled toned glasses and table linens provided by AAYS Event Rentals transformed this tablescape into a sunburst of color. Shayne says, “Suns and moons are everywhere in the shoot in little ways. This was a really cool way to play it up in the dishes.” The rock candy is the perfect sweet treat for any wedding guest. “They’re delicious and a really cute affordable favor for guests,” Shayne adds. And can we talk about that gorgeous cake? We’re swooning over the gold dusting in this confection! The true showstopper is the design of the bridal looks. The team drew from romantic and whimsical styles while working to flatter their model’s bodies. We love the team’s take on unique additions, such as the bridal cape and flowers woven into the bridal attendant’s beard. The handcrafted headpiece was the best way to top off this gorgeous celestial celebration!

THE VISION Star crossed lovers meet in this whimsical night and day cover shoot! Lisa Norris, owner of Indianapolis wedding planning company Lisa Norris Events, wanted to bring organic natural balance into this shoot. “We chose the theme of sun and moon because they each represent balance much like a couple in love balances each other,” Lisa explains. By using Classic Blue, the Pantone Color of the Year, the team cultivated a modern style with sunbursts of color. Captured by Indianapolis photographer Alison Mae Photography, this shoot will leave you starstruck!
THE VENUE The Neidhammer’s sun-shaped stage was the perfect backdrop for this shoot’s sun and moon theme. Soaring 25-foot ceilings bring warmth and light into this historic Indianapolis venue. Modern rustic touches shine in the exposed brick and gorgeous low-hanging chandeliers.

THE FLORALS These florals give this shoot a breath of crisp evening air. West Lafayette florist Rubia Flower Market combined crisp white roses with blooms reflecting Classic Blue for an overall burst of soft color. “Although we integrated some blue with linens and tux, we decided to veer from the norm by focusing on the blue in the florals as well which is a bit different,” Lisa notes. The efflorescent crescent moon backdrop is an absolute showstopper! Filled with Classic Blue hydrangeas, this whimsical take on a floral arch is the perfect ethereal wow factor for this shoot.

THE LOOK This bride is channeling her inner sun goddess! The straight lines on her glittering Nancy’s Bridal Boutique gown showcase the reflection of a sunray. The model’s curly updo and soft makeup, styled by Lavender and Hops Style Lounge, bring a subtle elegance to her look. The groom’s stylish suit, provided by The Groomsman Suit, shows off his sharp style. Together they make the perfect balanced duo!

THE DÉCOR Sunbursts abound in the details of this shoot. Rich gold accents shine through with the tablescape’s chargers, flatware and chiavari chairs provided by Indiana Wedding Decorators. The style flows to the stationery, where Wedding Stationery by PSR Designs perfectly captured a burst of light. Sensing an oncoming trend of customization, the team used individual golden star place cards from ZCreate Design for each wedding guest to have a fun gift to take home. 84

THE CAKE & DESSERTS This shoot’s night-inspired confection gives plenty of delicious texture! Indianapolis bakery Artisan Bakery truly stole the show with this artistic rendering of the couple’s starry love story. From the frosted trees placed around the bottom to the celestial elements decorating the tiers, the details are almost too pretty to eat!
